I remember in a past video Matt said when he bought the shop, Ed had a trailer on it and the owner just recommended Matt evict him because he was "difficult to deal with." Instead Matt befriended him, put him on the crew, and is building him a place to live. It speaks to the quality of Matt's character.

    Camera Advice from a Videographer:
-Use 30fps on the mirrorless sony camera so it matches the gopros
-use 60 or 120 fps only for slow motion shots. Using 60 and 120 frames on a timeline set to 30 fps gives you extra frames to slow down your footage
    - turn off IBS (in body stabilization) if you’re going to use a gimbal i know it sounds like it would help but it doesn’t it’s gives you that warp effect.
    - wider lenses make it easier to pull focus along with shooting at f4-f8 i would suggest a 16-35mm and a 24-70mm lens for your application the
    - shooting handheld with ibs on can be more pleasing for most because it gives a since of involvement.
Just my tips other could say otherwise but you guys are killing it love the channel. Happy new year 🎉

That wrecker is going to be so much fun to watch work the kinks out. The new camera's auto-focus really struggles when the scene has multi-depth of field choices which this episode had. Hey Morr team!
Long time viewer and photographer here, my 2 cents about the new camera: dslr's are great but are more to handle, and gopros are great at run and gun type shooting. Gopros are also easy because everything is in focus most of the time and they typically do a decent job with shots with high dynamic range.
If you want to use your dslr for run and gun type shots I would recommend that you shoot wide 17-24mm for example and then test out different image stabilization methods and see which ones work best (sometimes stabilizing in post is better than in camera or vice versa). Nice gimbals can be heavy but they do their job well. Keep that f-stop around 8 or even 12 and higher so that you dont have to pull focus as much. Save those fast aperture configs for static close up shots. I'd also shoot at 60fps or higher, you can always cut frames in post. 24 frames is too low for what yall film but thats just my opinion!
We had a blizzard this week in the city I live in and I got to pull someone out of a snowbank with my Matt's straps and my '95 XJ. I was pretty excited about it! Was wishing I had a soft shackle and a rope instead but I got the job done with the tools I had. Couldn't have done it if I hadn't been watching you guys for years, I've learned so much. I couldn't believe last week's video, I think it was his birthday, and he had just got back from scuba diving and dredging for gold for 4 hours under water. I would never have imagined Ed at 85 could still do that since I've seen him have to sit and catch his breath a few times during a recovery. He stays busy and that is why he is in good shape for his age. His mind is good and has a great memory. He's just a cool and interesting old fart that's great to have around. Hi, first comment from me, but here’s a cracking rough idea for a finnishing video for the wrecker, similar to the Morvair and the ”auto home” skits you did!
Starts with the wrecker missing from the shop, zoom out google earth style, zoom in to the desert, the wrecker is driving semingly by it self towards a wreck. It stops, snaps out the winch (green suit style) and snaps off the last missing part from the wreck (whatever that could be, a bumper or something?) it snaps it into place on it self and then snaps out the welder and welds the part in place by it self, again green suit style. Cut to the front of the wrecker, wrecker goes vrom vrom, and shoots off into the sunset to save a Razor or something.
Greetings from a snowy Sweden, lots of ad hoc snow rescues here and I’ve used a lot of the knowledge I’ve gained from you guys!😅

Noticed the same thing... the quality is a much needed improvement, especially when showcasing things they're building... but I don't think they were using a gimbal, just the straight grip they probably used for the gopros... w/out the 60fps stabilization that the gopros were giving them it got a little shaky.

The field of view is a lot narrower on the new camera compared to the go pros which is not inherently a bad thing but it makes some of the shots feel a bit claustrophobic, I think they need a wider lens for the new camera. • @Patrick.Weightman
      @Patrick.Weightman Рік тому +1

@@Lucas12v DC can still have variations in current which is what it's entirely reliant on; DC just means the current is moving in one direction, nothing more. At any rate the most I've been able to gather from it, which is incredibly vague, is that: HFDC is done by manipulating DC output in a very specific way so that the current begins to produce controllable fluctuations/variations in a manner very similar to AC, yet much faster and still flowing in a single direction - in turn this agitates your puddle to help impurities rise, gives you deeper penetration and allows for both longer and shorter arcs than conventional SMAW. These variations happen around 20,000 times a second or more
That's about the long and skinny of everything that's (readily) available in regards to it. HFDC apparently has major industrial uses with tubular steel production, but for the civilian market there's only been 2 or 3 people over the decades that have bothered to tap into it - all of which are oddly secretive about how their systems actually operate, such as what these fluctuations/variations are, how they're imposed, etc.
The term "high frequency" seems like a bit of a misnomer, but I could be wrong in that aspect; I really wish I knew. Either way it's definitely not your average DC welder, even just the sound can tell you that - instead of the regular bacon sizzle, the stick will produce a fractal whistle very similar to a "falling shepard's tone" as it carries the arc

    • @Lucas12v

Too many clips of zoom in to zoom out and rapid side to side movement in full zoom. The camera also struggles with depth of field which causes it to constantly focus. I felt like I had to take some dramamine after this video. It does work for B-roll footage. The nice thing about the GoPro video is that it doesn't constantly change focus. I probably notice this more since I'm watching your videos on a larger screen, not on my phone. Just my $.02. Looking forward to what you produce in 2023!

Lots of progress! Great seeing everything start coming together. It looks like your camera peeps convinced you to level up a bit. On the non-GoPro shots, shooting wide-open looks great, but when you leave it up to autofocus, it's hit and miss. I'd recommend to the camera peeps running the non-GoPro gear to practice with manual focus. There's a bit of a learning curve, but the end result will be much better and smoother than the autofocus racking in and out trying to figure out where to focus.
Nice job on the counter install. I did a similar one for my dad. Luckily, I didn't have an L-bend to deal with, so much simpler. What has been concerning me for some months now is how are you planning on finishing all that raw, untreated steel. I do a lot of fabrication down under and our weather conditions are nowhere near as extreme as yours, yet I certainly wouldn't leave a trailer frame or vehicle chassis uncoated as it will rust before my eyes. You have now started final assembly of the wrecker, and there isnt a spec or primer, paint, powdercoat ar galvanizing anywhere near it. Would it not have been a good thing to finish the build, cart it all away to a semi trailer manufacturing company that has a massive hot dip galvanizing tub, and then bring it home and assemble it all onto a beautifully coated structure?

For the winches only running the boom, or other short lengths of winch line, you will get better performance and reduce stress on the winches by only running as much winch line on them as you need.
