I love watching your videos Ms. Sheryl, thank you so much for sharing. You are full of sources, and that shows a great team work behind the scenes.
I am a firm believer of never want to put restrictions on kids. They do not know how to maneuver from the feeling of pressure. That causes bigger problems in the run. They thrive with free play under a supervision. 🎉

Every video you show, I am in awe of how quiet the children are. They are clearly engaged and adoring their school experience! Wtg!
I am very interested in your thought process, supervision routine, and/ clean-up process for the art/painting centers (table and easel alike). It seems as though the children come and go at the art experiences as they want to (which I love). How do they stay clean and stain free?!?! (My aide has a hard time with any residual paint, markers on hands or clothing, which I understand as a parent. As a teacher, I really would prefer a more open ended, self-determined, process art experience for them.)

Thank you! Although it's not always quiet, trust me! As for keeping clothing clean, I am up front with the parents at open house (before school even starts), that their children will get paint and other materials on their clothing. I suggest not sending them in their "best" clothing - anything they would be worried about getting "ruined". Then I make sure to use washable paints since I do know it will get on clothing. I tell them that because we are a hands-on classroom that involves lots of exploration, stuff WILL get on their clothes. I did have an assistant many years ago who had a hard time with this, like your assistant. It was a challenge because she truly had a hard time with it. She was even concerned about the paint trays getting stained. It had to be hard for her to be in my classroom! But I stayed firm with allowing open-ended materials and allowing "mess". As for containing the mess, we work really hard at keeping art materials at the art table and washing hands immediately when finished. But things happen ... too bad I didn't have my camera going when one of my students walked off with a paint brush from the easel! One of my assistants caught her just as she was headed for the dramatic play area and gently helped her return it to the easel.

If you are concerned about your children clothes getting dirty doing art activities I recommend buying oversize t-shirts to put on over thier clothes. This is what my daycare does and we also use them on spaghetti day too😄

I love your videos!! I'm just wondering how many children and how many adults you have during your centers time? I run a home preschool/childcare so my space is limited and it's just my assistant and me. My kids are 1s, 2s, and young 3s right now. I'm not sure I can have so many things going at once. If you had to choose, which would be your must-have centers? Thanks!!

Hi Denine! Because we have 2 year olds included in our class, our state licensing limits us at 10 children. I have one assistant and one floater. The floater is there for most of centers time. If you have time, please check out my back to school videos, as I talk about starting things very slowly, not having every center open. And even now, halfway through the school year, I might not have every center open. This is why constant observation is crucial. I take a close look at how the children are navigating through each center and how they are using the materials. I can tell when there is "too much" and I need to scale back. At the minimum the centers I would have: art, blocks, dramatic play. You are smart to consider your particular situation and not add more if you do not feel it will work. You could also rotate centers so that you have a few different ones available each day. I hope this helps!
