If you have a teaching hospital near you I would recommend a second opinion since you and Jonah are dealing with complications. It never hurts to get a second opinion. As a retired operating room surgical nurse this is what I advise to my family and friends. Best wishes to Jonah.

When I was a young boy I had a hip disease that caused the blood vessels in my hip to die. I started to limp just like your son. My wonderful mother took me Vanderbilt Children Hospital and they had me 12 hours a day lay in bed but had my leg elevated as high as possible. This forced the blood in my leg to my hip and forced the blood vessels to regrow. As a child it wasn’t fun however as a man, now I am thankful. I grew up playing all the sports and being able to be normal. My leg did catch up in growth most of the way. My prayers go out to you!!

As a mom with a daughter who's been fighting cancer for 14yrs I would get a second opinion. I know you may still get the same answers, but it puts your mind at ease. Just remember to expect the worst, pray and hope for the best. My daughter has had 16 surgeries for her brain cancer. It's nerve wrecking as a parent, you feel hopeless because he's your child and you can't fix it. But Johna is a strong young man who is loved beyond any words y'all could express. Jonah, I had hip replacement from a work injury which was a success except one leg remained 2 inches longer which made my healed hip hurt due to the walking imbalance.
I was so relieved when the orthopedist measured the 2” difference & luckily prescribed a 2” insert under the outside of my left shoe in which a cobbler (shoe repair man) installed it to match.
Suddenly, I could walk, shop & my pelvis was balanced. YIPPY NO MORE PAIN!

My son had a bone cyst found on his right femoral head, when he was 5. The cyst (hole) was attached to the growth plate. He had 3 surgeries, involving screws and a bone graft. If his hip would have broke the blood flow would have died. I know all too well the dangers of this. I am praying for his healing and that the surgery will go well. From our experience, the removal of the screws were the easiest surgeries. My son did have to take precautions for 6 weeks until the area where the screw was, healed.

Similar happened to my daughter back in 89. She fell and in a few months one leg was longer than the other. After being told surgery was only option I took her to Scottish Rites in Atlanta. Treatment was traction to stretch out hip cavity and large doses anti inflammatory medication. I was 8.5 months pregnant with my second child and the worry alone for my daughter was horrible. She did great and has no limp nor had to have surgery. The traction restored blood flow to the hip cavity. The leg went back in place this her leg was no longer 1.5" longer than the other leg. Scottish Rites was awesome and the doctor told me from onset what he thought it was but did tests to be sure. He was correct. I hope you have a good children's hospital there. Much love and prayers for you all at this time ❤️

As a 25 y/o with over 70 surgical procedures in her lifetime, I wish Jona a full recovery. I have scoliosis and Ehlers Danlos Syndrome, I was born with a cleft palate as well. The only reason I'm 25 with a job, a car, and 2 dogs, and working to save up for a little homestead some day is because we listened to the doctors and yeah I had to have that many anesthetized surgeries but I have a pretty decent life. It can be very painful and confusing when you're young and have to rest and recover for longer than you had hoped. I'm really happy Jona will have all of you to be there for him though as my parents were not good at the mental and emotional support areas of my care. I'm doing good these days so I have faith in modern medicine that Jona will be better in no time! :)

Dear Jonah, I really hope that everything has gone well with your surgery and your bones can now heal. I had my wristbone broke complicated and have screws as well in there, so I know a bit how it feels. Have patience with yourself and believe in the self healing magic of your body and cells.
Much strength for the whole family too.

I can't believe how fast Jonah picked up on the heavy machinery! It took me a year on lunch breaks to get good enough to dig a perfect trench, then get certified by Kobelco and CAT as an operator. He is going to have a life long skill that will take him far in this world where most ppl just want to do tech, but the problem is that tech requires heavy machinery to set it up. Great job young man. Very proud of you!

When i was 13 (1973), i was in an accident that caused the ball joint in my right hip socket to pop out when i walked fast or ran- yes it hurt, I usually just held my breathe and popped it back in place- w/ hand, it was a cool trick to show friends, but I did therapy & found that i too had a limp. I wore foot orthotics until late into high school. When moon shoes & bell bottoms were a thing, there was a difference of 2” on the wavy rubber of my shoe. So the socket popping out caused the Cartilage to wear down, so the socket in my hip bone was bone on bone. Fast forward 50 years we now have silica, that creates the liquid between cartilage and bone giving the cushion. By the time I graduated from high school I was fine. But they have all kinds of new technology and medical advances that will be interesting to see what they do with the hip socket you are all are in our prayers❤

Jonah is a very self-aware and analytical young man. All those times he asked if he was limping, he knew/felt that something wasn't quite right. Our continued prayers of healing, mentally and physically for the whole family.

You can see the stress on Jonah's face even though he is trying his best to hide it from everyone. Praying for you, especially as a mum with a son who went through surgery to remove a small cancerous growth in the roof of his mouth 19 years ago. Still got him. (Thank you Lord)

🙏 for Jonah and his medical team. As a parent it is very hard watching your child go through surgery, it was hard to sit and wait while our son (even though he is 38) had open heart surgery in November (5 and a half hour surgery for valve replacement) and while he is going through his rehabilitation (6 months before he can even drive). Not much else to say except I'll be thinking about you and sending prayers your way.
