    • @Lafayettelyle
      @Lafayettelyle Рік тому +1

yes . He seems to be a good neighbor. It seems he lives in an old established community, maybe even some kin folk round. He does'nt bother them and they don't get their kicks bothering him. I would like to be his neighbor. I wish I could say it was like that around here. So many folk want a taste of the "country life and buy a "three acre Minifarm". Nothing wrong with that but soon enough they want to control their little slice of heaven but also the 3,000 acres that joins them. Hello, I used to be a Licensed Real Estate Agent. Even though I worked for the Seller and I could puff a sales pitch Like "you can get the best sunrise you ever saw from here" . and "that big role of twine will make a good start on going around the world"; all that kind of hype. I would suggest they do the due diligence as well as spend the night in a pup tent. I-95 is only three miles from here and if the wind is blowing the right way you might hear it. There is a pig farm six miles away and if the wind is blowing the wrong way you might get a whiff of it. Of course the paper mills are 50 miles away. The one in the south is Savannah , the one in the east is Charleston. You might want to know that and not let your dreams be dashed. as can be expected, I did not do well as a Sellers agent. I went on to become a Consultant for the buyer. Generally , they were not looking for " a Home in the Country".

Pete, my favorite memories as a lad was going to my grandparents farm, your farm takes me back to a better time, something my grandfather did to entertain his pigs was to give them several old bowling balls to play with, they can't hurt them ,and his hogs loved it. I am always looking forward to your next vid. Thank you from Nebraska.

Hi Pete! Ken here from Nova Scotia. Just remember, anything that makes sense to any of us, don’t mean bean to lots of people out there. Raising prices seems to be the norm everywhere across the country. People have to understand that if your prices go up, their prices have to reflect that. . You look like you have way too much fun plowing snow. Lol.

Saw a post about how much gasoline prices have gone up. A twenty-something inner-city dweller posted, just get a bicycle with gears or ride public transportation. They don't get it that fuel costs factor into everything and the costs are accumulative. This is also the consequence of people being too far removed from their food's origin. The past two years affecting supply will add to this problem.

    • @KChandler9362

We are living in a scary world right now. Hate to think what the next generation will face. The cost of living is bad. I loosely shopped a year ago for woodland so I could build a hunting camp. The prices over doubled in a year.

Carol Zippel, Very true. When we were not well, we decided to use the for our groceries. They tried to switch out organic items for nonorganic ones that cost more. When I pitched a fit about the practice, they cancelled the order but made sure to charge me for their plus delivery s month later. The only reason they cancelled it was I had mentioned that I talked to card fraud before contacting Walmart customer service. I think they have done this so much that they do not want to rack up fees. We try to shop locally and regionally owned stores. I do not know how much longer we can afford to do so.

Hi Pete! I really enjoyed your video today. You have such a great way of enjoying life on a few acres., that is inspiring to me. You see the humor in everything, even the snow and your old Farmall tractor. You spread happiness even in these troubled times., because you are happy and and it makes me happy to see your joy in your everyday ife. And you asked if there is a patron saint for tractors that won’t start.? Yes, and I want to share my good friend, Saint Anthony, patron Saint of the lost-people, animals, objects and finding “lost/elusive” solutions to problems and help with solving them. He has helped me in countless ways over many years.Just a simple prayer: “ St. Anthony, St Anthony, Please come around. Something is lost and it must be found. Thank you St. Anthony.” then ask for what you need. You can also ask for miracles because He is known as a Miracle worker.

We had an incubator just like that one you are throwing away. The only difference I could see was that ours had a little glass window in the top. My dad worked for the mosquito abatement district during the summer to supplement the farm income. When he was spraying a field that was being harvested and came across a nest of eggs that would be destroyed, he would bring them home and incubate them. We’d raise the chicks and release them when grown. Pheasants. It was fun. Dad loved all animals. Your price squeeze is exactly what made my folks decide to sell the farm. I’m glad you have a good plan to follow 😊

With free ranged ducks a have less costs, they grow quickly and use a lot of "wild food" like slugs, worms, grass, grasshoppers. Price of duck eggs is 30% higher than chicken eggs, and costs are 30% lower...

Although Pete is the "brains and brawn" of the farm, his wife (Hillary) is his greatest "asset". What a great partner to have by his side. She's definitely not a "Green Acres" wife. I'm seeing prices rise at the grocery store also. It was bound to happen with COVID-19 and now the invasion of Iraq. We seldom eat in local restaurants however my cousins and I have a monthly meeting at a local restaurant and I have noticed the portions have gone down plus breakfast costs have risen 33%. They have very wisely chosen a balance between cutting portions plus price increase. My 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼 for you and the family for good health and sustainable profits. And I thought I was ruffing it when the thermostat stuck open on my McCormick F-85 and couldn't get the heat in the cab to get above 45°. Thankfully it was 74°here today (NE,Ohio) And I got the thermostat and a new temperature sending unit installed. As for your pig cost, my supplier told me my cost has to go up 20% this yr. Or he isn't going to be able to continue. Thankfully we/he uses a butcher that hasn't changed his prices for cut, wrap, freeze for last 3 yrs. He's a small guy, 3 family employees and him self. So as return customers we all try to keep them going year round. Between Hogs, Chickens, Turkeys, And now deer. There staying as busy as they want. And to be honest with you, for the quality job they do, if they did raise the price. Id still stick with them. Because they've become extended family. And since I convinced them to get a 2nd set of cutting knives, And im sharpening these knives for them now and don't charge them a dime to help keep the cost down.

Exceptional use of Wagner on this fine Monday morning. I hear you on the feed and butchering costs. I worked out my numbers and I just got notice from the mill regarding costs going up this month due to trucking fees. For me it meant I'm out of pigs for the foreseeable future, the slaughter appointment is made, and I'll be shifting to hair sheep which require less grain input since they can make a living on forage. It also meant diversifying the poultry operation and cutting chicken numbers.

Avian flue hitting many chicken and turkey operations in US now, so many farmers not buying chicks each year but switching to hatching their own and not bringing in any outside chicks.
Futures markets showing price of feeder cattle falling sharply and lean hog prices going up...looking like people moving away from beef towards pork. You might want to
add this into your database for decisions forward. Russian / Ukraine not exporting any grains until June this year. Then will appraise situation then. Strong grain prices until then.

I do enjoy watching the piggers. They do add entertainment value to your UA-cam videos. Something to think about when making your farming decisions. On another channel they sold a fan favorite unique cow. The farmer had said she would never get rid of that cow. The cow would make an appearance in most of her videos. They sold a truck load of cows and kept quite a few. Many comments some of which were pretty harsh. I’m not saying you should lose money to entertain us, only commenting on the abstract value of entertainment which you may wish to consider in making decisions.

Those pigs are just having a ball with that bale of hay. And little Peanut and gang sure do enjoy being able to fit between the bars to get to the prime pickings. Keep warm you two, spring is almost here!

Another great video Pete. You are like a mad scientist when an experiment goes right in this case when the Farmall starts and continues to run lol Your cows are so funny complaining about the hay in the pig pen. Those pigs are getting big.

We have a customer for wine who have seen how much work is to take care of grapes and then make wine from them and he is now paying us 2€ for a liter of wine but we normaly sell it for 1.8€ per liter.
I think if customers will come and help on farm they will pay no problem twice as much per pound.
