Without giving away my age too much but the Maypole dance and celebration was once popular here in the U.S. and was sometimes seen in the schoolyard. However certain organized religions [cough cough ] considered it served no purpose and time has let this wonderful time of play and celebration slip into the past. But today with many people returning , myself included, to a more realistic and basic belief system. Pagans and Wiccans rise and organize and be counted let our voices be heard!

Eddie, did you know that when France gave us the Statue of Liberty there were certain religious groups (also cough, cough) who objected to a Pagan (Hellenic) goddess being the first thing immigrants would see when they entered New York harbor? Like it was going to do any harm.

Like many in the comments, this video made me cry. Unfortunately, for all the wrong reasons.
First off LARP. Just a bunch of playgan larpers.
Nothing to do with Witchcraft, miniscule amount of Druidism and just because you call it wicca, doesn't make it Wiccan.
Nothing to do with honoring the Ancestors, the may Queen was a maiden? really!?! The May King should be the strongest, most vibrant male in the community, this one just looked confused or high if you ask me and unless the May King and Queen went off and had sex, a complete mockery of jumping the broom.
Intoning the EAIOU in the ritual comes from Graves book the White Goddess which he made up whilst smacked off of his head on heroin, operative words here being 'made up'. It's fun, it gives off a great vibratory sensation in the body, but NOT ancient witchcraft, druidism or ancient anything else.
Now don't get me wrong. I absolutely LOVE the concept, the idea and all it stands for. But if old farts like me wish to see the continuation of our beliefs, we need to stand up and point out the fallacies behind the modern Playgan movement.
Although I must admit, seeing this done outside of the old Crown Hotel made me chuckle, when I lived in Glaston it still had a sign in the window saying "No hippies allowed" hehehehe.
Air my breath..... is a chant to raise energy, this just sounded like a funeral dirge.
And Gaia? Seriously? With the wealth of British/Celtic mythology, the wealth of British/Celtic Goddesses who fulfill the role of 'mother' and they call upon a 'goddess' with a Greek name who 40-50 years ago didn't exist, as far as I recall Gaia was the name given to an ancient landmass that was not only pre-human but even pre-dinosaurs.
And for those of you who think who am I to have such opinions:
I've been a Witch for over 40 years and a Wiccan (Gardnerian) HP for over 20 years. So don't think I'm putting this down just for the sake of it. As stated I LOVE the concept of open/public pagan rituals and events, I just wish that they wouldn't keep mixing and matching to suit whatever is fashionable.

I don’t see it as garbage. I believe in it and it works for me. If it’s not your path that’s ok. A large part of Wicca is honoring your ancestors. Most of its sabbats are based on remembering and honoring your ancestors. I’m also from Irish/ Celtic descent which was originally pagan and Wiccan. Have a good day and blessed be.

They were like party's rich in symbolism, tradition, and spirituality. No stuffy sermons given within temple walls but outside celebrating with music, poetry, art, and in todays world great costumes! We've managed to get the English to pronounce Samhain better, but Beltaine may take a little longer. Most people are only dimly aware these words come from another language, which has different spelling / pronunciation rules. England is so bizarrely unaware of Celtic languages, you'd almost think it was deliberate.

This looks like the most amazing celebration. I'm in Australia and a Beltane in the land of my Celtic/Anglo-Saxon ancestors is such a dream.

What a pure and a lovely ceremony, the old gods has a waken from there slammer. Europe reture to thire rightful roots, as a pagne like the hindu, Japanese and Chinese who remains thier old gods so Europe should do the same, and I hope it will bring us joys and happines. Without falls religions like Christianity, Islam and jusdisam.
