That was amazing. I'm impressed that this guy not only recognizes that Asian hair is different but knows how to work with it. He works so hard at it and is so meticulous and doesn't try to just give this client the same hipster cut as his white clients. I have a new appreciation for the process and skill of the stylist. Fascinating to watch.

My husband is vietnamese and he finally accepted that i cut his hair, probably out of lack of choice and out of nobody being able to see for at least an other two weeks.
I swear this guy is the only barber i see that actually can cut Asian hair... somehow our hair doesn't look good with western popular hairstyles at all..
Haisha Wang I think western hairstyles do look good on Asian hair but it really depends on the hairstyle. Asian and white hairstyles are mostly the same but when it comes to black peoples hairstyles, it is mostly different. Western hairstyles like the comb over undercut, fringe cut and the Caesar cut look good on Asian men’s hair.
@@jonjonboi3701 East Asian and Caucasian hair ARE NOT mostly the same. The average East Asian hair texture is typically hard and straight with a tendency to grow outward and poof up after shower. It's a lot harder to manage and style than the typical Caucasian hair which tend to have softer texture and often wavy or curly that would lay flat and hug the scalp tightly. Only people who are unfamiliar with these 2 types of hair would say they're the same!

Asian hair is so hard to cut. I feel like hiding when they come to my barbershop.
They do get a good haircut, but to me, it always feels like something is not right.
I used to do undercuts for mostly asian guys in college, what i would do is just go straight up the sides with a 2 (1/4") and a 3 (3/8") or 4 (1/2") on the back, and leave about 4-6 inches on the top. thats what i do with my current hair and i cut it myself in my garage lol. super easy to maintain, lots of different possible styles. the only drawback is the hair splinters because asian hair, especially east asian, is thick.

Apparently Asians(Koreans in particular) go for a two block haircut. Its kind of like a neater and sharper looking bowl cut because it actually kinda looks better and suits our hair growth along the sides

Thank you for this. It's necessary for a beginner like me to actually see, that the type of hair and growth patterns dictate the cut, not like you have some strict standards that you always have to obey for particular cut. I've been struggling to find a cut for my son who has very straight but soft hair and very prominent, vortex like cowlick in the back. It's hard to find the correct length or direction to comb and style his hair. I'll try to adapt your cut.

I have similar kind of hair but im not asian.
I shave it off on the side and back at mid level. Then blend it in to remove the line. I keep the top part longer to fall flat on eitjer side.
I ask for # 0 on the side. It looks cool like a fade style.
I'm asian but thankfully I've been blessed by the hair gods. Mine actually complies w me instead of being porcupine hair

Hey Stephen, I'm just curious, what's the difference between European (I'm from Romania) and Asian hair? From what I can see a lot of them have thick, straight hair. I absolutely love how it looks. My hair is pretty dense and thick, the only difference is that in the longer parts (I have an undercut) it's slightly wavy just on the last half of the strand.

When i got to the barber im always told that i have A LOT OF HAIR.. and im hispanic and my hair is a mix of asian (thick hair) and a bunch of it.. in this video i saw that the client had normal type of hair amount.. but i would like to see a tutorial on clients that have ALOT of hair like i do..
Ohh. I forgot.to mention.too that when cutting off asian hair , dont wash it. Its better to cut it dry when hair is flat.

It’s so interesting to me the difference between a “salon” and “barber shop”. If this guy got cut at a barber shop they would have taken his sides down to a 0 or 1, lineups and razors for sure. I guess being an Asian from Los Angeles area just used to getting my hair short, crisp and defined vs “Hollywood” is best way I could describe this. Not saying this is a bad cut just have always associated Salon with “women, white guys and gay men” simply bc of style preference...again, nothing wrong with it just what I’m used too.

Dark Scorpion Generally those with Asian hair have beautiful, but really coarse hair. My boyfriend has hair like this and I hate cutting his hair because it's so hard to blend and it's super prickly and sharp. Hair is not all the same and there are characteristics that are general to particular ethnicities, even though there are exceptions. I'm black and I have kinky hair. Generally, you see this hair type on black people, though there are exceptions. I don't think he meant anything offensive by the title.

There's no such thing as Asian hair, urasian hair or whatever hair. There's only wavy, thick, coarse, thin, fine etc...
The thing about Asian hair is that it grows out instead of down.
chicken pox If that's what you think, you are certainly not Asian. Asian hair tend to stick out especially if it's short. That's why we mostly go for undercuts or a bowlcut.
