I’ve been diligently working, saving and contributing towards financial freedom and early retirement, but the economy so far since the pandemic has eaten away most of my portfolio, what I want to know is this: Do I keep contributing to my portfolio in these unstable markets or do I look into alternative sectors.

Just try to diversify your portfolio to other market sectors, that way your investment is balanced and you don’t get to make so much losses.

that's the more reason I prefer my day to day investment decisions being guided by an advisor seeing that their entire skillset is built around going long and short at the same time both employing risk for its asymmetrical upside and laying off risk as a hedge against the inevitable downward turns, coupled with the exclusive information/analysis they have, it's near impossible to not out-perform, been using my advisor for over 2years+

Akshat you are trying to misguide mutual fund investors. Headline says 5 Mf to invest and you are beginning with telling disadvantages of investing in mutual funds. You are trying to convert MF investor by using such subject to join your paid community and your class. Mf is charging is less when compared to your paid community and classes. For investing 1 lac in stocks based on your paid community the charges are almost 2%. Mf charges much less than that. Do you think you should misguide mf investors by using such tagline? Be fair Akshat.

    Quick summary -
    Market Performance and Investment Strategies
    - Small and midcap mutual funds can outperform the market during bull runs.
    - Timing is crucial when investing in small and midcap funds.
    - Consider investing in growth industries to increase the chances of making profits.
Large Cap Funds and Benchmark Index
    - Investing in actively managed large-cap funds may result in losses.
    - Only a small percentage of large-cap funds beat their benchmark index.
    Mutual Funds and Investing Considerations
    - Mutual funds are suitable for new investors or those who lack time for direct stock picking.
    - Mutual fund investing is unlikely to exceed 10-12% CAGR.
    - Research and choose mutual funds based on individual preferences.
    - Avoid excessive rotation of portfolio holdings to maintain performance consistency.
    - Take control of investments and understand where the money is going.
    ETFs and Debt Funds
    - Investing in ETFs can save on expense ratios compared to actively managed funds.
    - Liquid debt funds are suitable when interest rates are stable or falling.
    - Avoid investing large amounts in debt mutual funds due to limited indexation benefits.
    Wealth Growth and CAGR
    - Making 16% CAGR is essential for achieving significant wealth growth.

So can we say that in simple words that if XIRR of my portfolio is assuming 13% then to achieve 16+% one needs to increase investing in small and mid and once it comes to 17 or 18 one can move towards little bit of large cap MF so to maintain healthy 18-19 %. I mean if if it's below market growth then that means the allocation is not in right direction. And assuming that one is picking MF from a combination of 4-5 star value research and top 3 from ET money...

Hmmm... I have been putting 40% of my money in Flexicap fund, 30% each in mid cap and small cap funds. Maybe I should change this later. Small Cap is risky even though it is giving 10% return in just 3 months.
I think 40% investment each in flexi cap and large and mid cap fun and 20% in Small cap would be a more balanced investment portfolio.

Hey Akshat, you recently invested under HDFC and DSP Small Cap Active Funds and their AUM is far greater than Quant Small Cap Active Fund, so I fail to understand why managing Quant by the fund manager is difficult compared to fund which has more AUM. I don't why but atleast I was hoping that you would be a Promoter of Quant Mutual Funds since most of their funds ranked #1 in their respective categories. I am invester in Quan Tax Plan and Quant Small Cap and have an average return of 18%, which is absolutely more that the other funds I have invested in.

While it makes absolute sense why index funds might be better than large cap MFs , many large cap funds like Nippon India, Canara Robeco, SBI bluechip have had better historical returns than any index fund. This includes 1yr, 3yr, 5yr and 10yr returns. Can you please comment on it?

  • @abcdmunna
    @abcdmunna 8 місяців тому

I kind of disagree to some of the points. The nippon india smallcap find size is around 35k crores. But it is still the best performer based on the historic and annual/yearly returns.

For your reference, my stocks are Bajaj finance, aavas finance, Berger paint, relaxo, Prince pipe, dmart, SBI cards, Federal Bank, TCS, Happiest mind, Infosys.

It's easy to say in videos. You have to give years to understand the market cycles and build psychology. Even if you want to beat the mutual funds then also you need to have a lot of interest in stock internet consistently over the years. I think only few(1-2%) investors can beat the market.

Mutual funds are making profits only on IPOs and they invest huge amount of money on those stocks and sell them within two days or within a week after listing to make good profits, that's the function of MFs and again they will wait for another good IPO issue.
I too was making good money about 5 to 6 years ago by investing in MFs, then IPO issues have been almost stopped due to stagnation.
Now the time is not right to invest in MFs as the market is volatile and not much of profit Orientated IPOs are not coming out.

The Stt increased, indexation benefit withdrawn, capital gain increased, putting restrictions on funds like parag parikh who deal in foreign stocks also and list goes on...
