I come here to feel better. I am so grateful I took as many of his classes as available. I miss him - and the people like him. Just hearing him makes me happy and proud to be an alumni.
Professor Bridgman was a leading scholar for many years. I had quite a few classes with him during my history undergrad, and he always made the discipline come alive. some 20 years later I still speak of him often. What a giant! Prof. Bridgman you will be missed. Thank you for your wonderful work all these years and the inspiration you gave to students like me.
Marc Miller I agree with you all the way! RIP Dr. Bridgman! He was my professor and mentor when I was at the UW during this time period the interview was recorded. I love him speaking on Thucydides or as we called him,THUD. First real history I read.
I doubled majored in history...and do vividly remember his History of the Middle Ages course, which I took in my freshman year in my undergrad program. He was a mesmerizing lecturer amongst many other excellent historians in the University of Washington's History Department. They were all excellent.
I still have all my notes taken from his many classes over five years and 50 years plus ago - found in a box carefully put away in the attic. Keepers. I wasn't a history major much to his shock.
I think one song could summarize Professor Bridgman," The Best! Your Simply The Best!". I loved this man! He was my professor, mentor but most of all my friend when I was an undergrad at the UW in the early-mid 80's. This was filmed when I graduated with a B.A. in Histroy from the UDUB. Missed but not forgotten by many.RIP Professor.
Jon Bridgman mentions his colleague Professor Arthur Ferrell--who taught a 4-credit Ancient History course at the University for years, which was an amazing course. Ferrell came dressed as "Caesar" for a couple lectures in Kane Hall...
