I had bacterial pneumonia two years ago and the symptoms came on quite suddenly such as breathlessness & feeling nauseas then vomiting etc .The fever was extremely scary because I was alone, hallucinating, and sweating profusely. My bed clothes were soaked through...It passed overnight and by morning I could at least try & get to my phone in the other room, which took ages as I could only manage toddler steps as I was gasping for air. So the fever did in fact do it’s job, as Doctor John stated. I was hospitalised for ten days, and didn’t recover fully for approximately two months....If anyone lives alone please keep a phone next to you! I never sleep without one next to me now....

Kensy Skye. Many thanks for the tip. I had pneumonia New Year’s Eve 1999! But my husband was there so didn’t need a phone next to me. He died 2004, so I need that phone now! My asthma returned about 7 months ago. No way do I want to get the virus now,or it’ll turn to pneumonia...as I had a horrendous chest infection and asthma needing nebuliser frequently and steroids Nov 2018. Nearly hospitalised. So must be very careful. I haven’t seen anyone for almost 3 weeks as I live alone.

    • @kensyskye8965
      @kensyskye8965 4 роки тому +3

Margaret Lavender oh I’m glad you read this as the phone is literally a life line, when living alone with a serious health condition, I’m also asthmatic now as the pneumonia damaged my left lung too....My sister died of cancer and during her illness she would fall, so I made her carry a mobile phone constantly in the house so I could get to her quickly....I’m so sorry for your loss and know it’s painful being alone especially at this time, but please take heart that we are many....We can do this if we follow every possible ounce of good advice... I’ll look out for you on Doctor John’s videos....💕

I believe my BF had Coronavirus. He had a fever, cough, upper respiratory issues, ZERO energy for over a week. I slept downstairs on the couch for 10 days while he took the master bedroom and bath. He DID NOT come out of that area for 7 days. Every time I would go in to give him food or to take his temp, etc, I would put on a respirator, goggles, and gloves. I had a little station set up outside the room. When I came out I would put the goggles and respirator in a container lined with a trash bag and a lid and then throw away my gloves and wash my hands. I took vitamin C, D3, garlic, apple cider vinegar, elderberry, zinc, chlorella, and colloidal silver, I felt “off” for a few days. Kept feeling like I had to clear my throat, but I never got sick, which is a blessing because I have 5 kids at home. He is better now but he was sick for a good 10 days. Then we had to completely sanitize the master bed and bath and wash the bedding.
Also: he did not take anything for his fever, which at some points was over 101 degrees. He ate some, but mainly I tried to make sure he was drinking vitamin water or propel fitness water.
One more thing I forgot to mention: he has sleep apnea, so he used his CPAP all the time he was resting and recovering from this, which I think helped a lot.

Advice for the fellow hypochondriacs out there:
Don’t go crazy with the pulse-oxi meter, especially the ones that show a graph of your pulse. An anxious heart can start beating irregularly. An anxious mind can make you subconsciously hold your breath, resulting in a low oxygen level. Don’t freak out or think you are dying 👍🏻

Anna Oblomova and get whatever good advice you can get from the news, and put it down!! Don't fall into the media induced panic! It's okay to be cautious, but watching the news on repeat all day will only instill panic!! They show you the worst of the worst, of news consistently! Which most of us will never even experience...
Just compare CNN with Drs UA-cam channel. The news is making all of us uneasy, and the Dr is keeping us calm, collected, and informed.
This guy is a real ALPHA MALE!

    • @davidsuzukiispolpot
      @davidsuzukiispolpot 4 роки тому +1

Good advice. The point of the waveform (or the bar-graph) is to show when it is getting a good waveform. A pulse oximeter MUST synchronize to the pulse to give a meaningful reading. It is not intended for diagnosing anything about your heart. The waveform is good to see when the device is getting a proper waveform that is scaled correctly and not saturating high or low and you are not moving it. An important issue is that people's movements tend to be of a frequency similar to what is possible for heart rate pulses, so movements are a big problem. Best to keep the oximeter still on a table and eliminate motion artifact.

Regular deliveries of dressings, sterile masks etc reduced the need for hospital stays, and district nurse visits were reduced. Hi John, have been ill myself, I kept a log and used an electronic thermometer and finger monitor. At 12 days I'm beginning to recover now but it was awful and I'm still tired. I didn't really get the dry cough but everything else and I got quite breathless. Because I used to have mild asthma I knew a technique to control my breathing which helped for me although it got a bit touch and go one day. I think your video is very useful and I am quite surprised how little support there is from the NHS similar to your video. One thing I would say is I also had a wrist BP monitor but it gave a false reading which caused a bit of a crisis one night! A telephone conversation with a great paramedic helped! I suggest unless people have a proper arm BP they don't use such wrist monitors. Now the issue for many of us that have been ill is we don't 't know if it was Covid19. We don't know if we can go back to work and we don't know if we have to be ultra careful as if it wasn't Covid19 and it was flu, then getting Covid19 while still recovering could be fatal. Testing is the big issue.

    • @cedarpope

I’ve just been reading about the prevalence of false negatives because the virus isn’t always in the nose. My daughter had a fever for 15 straight days. She was tested and got a negative result on day 14. Her only symptoms were fever and vomiting and diarrhea. She’s still weak and not well. She had no cough. Either she has something else, or there was a false negative. Tests are important, but we’re learning that it can head to the GI system too.

some things i would add include:
spitting out as much mucas as you can whenever you feel it in your throat combined with drinking a lot of water
clearly your throat with salt water or mouthwash gaggling, not swollowing.
doing breathing excercises whenever you feel a shortness of breath to maintain your oxygen levels
drinking warm drinks, and avoiding cold drinks, lukewarm is fine
resting more than usual purposefully ie sleeping 12+ hours instead of 8 and not rushing to do anything when you wake up
    taking a shower or bath
not doing anything, purposefully so your bodies only mission is to fight the infection.
maintaining your natural body temperature in the room so you don't feel cold or warm, ie turning up the heating to like 25-28c.
closely monitoring the temperature in the room and figuring out whether you fever sweating or room temperature sweating and then recognising this as a time to rest if it's fever sweating. the room should be cold at around 20c, comfortable at around 25c but at 30c you will start to sweat.
i personally have a drinking tube which i put in a 5L bottle of water so i exherted as little effort as possible while i was sick
not eating anything that adds mucas such as milk, cheese, bread, etc.
medicines that i think help are inhalers for asthma, citirizine hydrochoride for alergies, multivitamins for general immune system improvements.
and the final one is don't think it's over until it's actually over. there have been multiple stories of people having symptoms for 1 week, they feel better and go about there normal routine and then suddenly the next week they are on a ventillator dying because they just went out and did what they would usually do and over exhert themselves rather than waiting until the virus is truly done.
i'm sure there are more than i've forgotten but these are some of the additional things i do when im sick, which include all your points.

As a fellow RN I can say this was a most excellent teaching on home care of sick family members! I am sending this video to My sister who just started having nasal congestion and headache 1 day after stupidly babysitting her 4 year old grandchild who lives elsewhere. I am afraid she has covid. I know her symptoms aren’t yet classic but many who have tested positive do not have the classic symptoms. Unfortunately she delivered groceries to me and our mom yesterday though we all maintained the appropriate distance and she didn’t enter the house I still worry that the groceries were contaminated. She didn’t tell us she was sick until after she got home unfortunately.

I am recovering from the virus (day 18). I found it was helpful to have a stack of clean pyjamas ready. As Dr Campbell suggests I let the fever run for the first few days. The sweating was so intense that my pyjamas were drenched quickly. This was very uncomfortable and chilling - it brought on tremendous chills and shivering. I had to bathe and change pyjamas every hour or two throughout the day and night. I also put a large towel over the lower sheet - much easier to change the towel (which also got drenched in sweat) than to keep stripping the sheets.
After 4 days I started feeling very drained by the fever and I was having crazy nightmares so I started taking paracetomol just at bedtime to help me sleep better. The fever and sweats lasted 14 days - it came and went in waves after the first week.
Despite the fever, I was also super sensitive to cold air on my neck, throat, upper back and chest - I wore a cotton scarf all the time, even in bed - had to change it frequently because of the sweat.

@@LORDdrPepper yeah I live on my own with my dog so separating would be tricky, but it's something I need to be aware of as if I got this, even if I wasn't that unwell I'd still have to ask someone else to walk him (due to need to isolate). Might be best for someone to take him till I got better but I don't really have anyone who could take him so I'm just doing all I can to avoid it.

@Coiled Steel. Its my understanding the Italian health system in the early days of COVID-19 infections was placing infected COVID-19 patients in with their general patient wards in hospitals and some COVID-19 patients were transferred to nursing homes with an elderly population, thus contributing to the further spread of COVID-19, unfortunately. So without further evidence, I don't believe "It's the culture".

The most important thing is to not get it, or to get as healthy as you can before getting it. I used to have chronic nasal infections but since I started fasting they have gone away and if I ever feel sick I fast a day or two and it clears up.
Some of the myriad benefits of fasting, all evidence based.
Blood sugar and insulin are lowered, allowing white blood cells to move more freely throughout the body and do their job. Ideal blood sugar is around 80. Some viruses activate glycolosis (the release of sugar in the body) and clinically it has been shown that decreasing glucose metabolism in the body weakens the influenza virus.
When you move out of MTOR your body shuts down the building blocks of the cell which are used to produce organelles and proteins. This means the mechanisms needed by viruses to replicate are by and large unavailable when you are in a deeply fasted state.
It stimulates the AMPK complex and activates autophagy. Autophagy (literally self eating) will causes cells to recycle foreign matter such as viruses. AMPK does many helpful things in the body including activating the body's antioxidant defenses.
Deep ketosis virtually eliminates inflammation in the body. This can offset the life threatening symptoms of viral pneumonia which effectively kills you through inflammation. This also creates BHB ketones in your body, which also help your immune system and anti-oxidative system, especially in the brain. Various ketones also provide an additional energy source during infection, which is critical when trying to fight off a bug. In fact you can have as much as three times the total energy available in your blood when you are in deep ketosis, or even more.
It increases mitochondrial function and repairs mitichondrial DNA, leading to improved ATP production and oxygen efficiency and thereby making cells better able to fight off infection. Increased mitochondrial function also has the added benefit of increasing your metabolism!
T and B cells retreat to the bone marrow and are renewed at a genetic level, each cell having all its DNA repaired. This supercharges your immune system and makes your cells young again. On top of all this, fasting encourages the direct apoptosis (death) of infected cells, shortcutting the typically length process of killing them off through macrophages.
Your body releases interferon which is also triggered by the body during viral attacks to shut down the replication ability of the surrounding cells and stop infections.
After 3 days or more your body actually recycles large numbers of immune bodies and creates new ones, rejuvenating your entire system.
Eating one meal a day can bring most of these benefits to a lesser degree, and adding a few entire days off from eating will have even more effect especially when starting to feel poorly.
