    In general, batagor is made from softened tofu and filled with a mixture made from mackerel and tapioca flour then shaped into a ball which is fried in hot oil for several minutes until cooked. Another variation is dumplings, fried and served with batagor and combined with peanut sauce, sweet soy sauce, chili sauce and lime juice as a complement.[2] Nowadays, batagor is not only round in shape, but there are batagor variants wrapped in fried wonton skin. Batagor with this variant is often found in West Java, especially Bandung. In fact, batagor is served not only with the typical peanut sauce, but there is also batagor served with meatball-like sauce. This type of batagor is known as batagor sauce. Some traders also serve batagor with the addition of cucumber slices which makes the batagor taste even better.
