As a black man, I want to acknowledge a weird and unfortunate intersection between black culture and southern conservative culture that has always existed and no one wants to talk about.
And when you call it out, they say your being brainwashed by white people or say your less of a black man because of that.
It’s sad honestly
As a black woman with southern family roots, So so so true
No one wants to talk about it because if you're white they respond with calling you racist (which is ironic) and if you're black they'll call you a traitor or being brainwashed.
@Brandon Vila such an unfortunate thing, might I add.
When Elton John is pissed at you, its time to apologize
That's generally the rule!
His “defense” is pretty much the equivalent of “I know gay people, therefore nothing I say can possibly be homophobic”
"I have a mom. Why do you call me a sexist?"
“I know black people. One of them is my friend. Why are you calling me racist for saying the n word?”
dumb defense sure but he never actually implied being gay is a bad thing ever during either of the jokes, however two jokes not connected to each other are being noted to imply he meant gay people have aids? I guess thats the reason because his statements alone were not that bad
No, it's worse, he basically implied that people with hiv/aids are nasty and that his gay fans have class and that gay people that suck dick in the parking lot are disgusting. He basically said that gay people should act a certain way
@@junaydfisher211 I agree with his statement then
TI's tweet about DaBaby and Lil Nas X both speaking "their truth" is quite possibly the worst take I've ever heard

@@junjiito6298 Not sure you need to call out conservatives specifically. Communists often do the same thing (tankies especially), as do many other groups who know that most people disagree with them.
Frankly, I’d be more worries about DaBaby’s initial comments, since it showed that he was woefully unaware of just how out-of-touch he was.

@Activism, Athletics ,Identity I mean yeah phobia does literally mean "fear", but it is used as a term for ppl who are aversive/intolerant of gay ppl. Is it an accurate word? no, but it has been used to describe said ppl so much that it is just used to refer to them.

T.I? Sorry, I don’t trust anyone named after a calculator
Most mainstream rappers probably feel the same especially when you factor in upbringing. Alot of the biggest rappers grew up in the streets or a majority black community where it's pretty much a conservative mindset. Being gay, trans or whatever they want to call themselves is frowned apon. The difference is that most of them wouldn't go on stage to outright say it publicly. You still get it in their music tho. That's probably why dababy won't be canceled especially in hip hop. Where that mindset thrives.

No fix
@@good-tn9sr No, that doesn't make any sense. There is ONE struggle for liberation that must be fought on ALL fronts. The the homeless trans black lesbian out there will not be helped by a homophobic or transphobic struggle for black liberation. And the black gay kid getting bullied in school will not be helped by a racist lgbtq+ community. Nor will any of us, regardless of our oppression be helped by capitalism, which is a project of white supremacy and hetero-patriarchy. We acknowledge our different struggles, but stand in solidarity regardless. That's the way forward.

Dababy turned into Dabortion 💀
Kind of depressing that in our culture “a massive amount of memes” is considered a good career move
You ALL made it that way ! NOW you wanna complain ? Lmao
Meme culture leads to interest in the person's music because it branches across the internet to people who might find that interesting and it leads back to the original music video. Talking about drugs constantly and murder isn't a good career move either, but you see how popular it is and you can see that it works.
@@goldswaggamer4007 like I said y’all made it that way ! Everyday somebody is making a meme or resharing a meme nonstop and it’s truly sad . As far as what rappers talk about they rap about what will sell . Cause we are programmed to believe we have one purpose in life and that’s money and the government made it that way . That’s why there’s so much suicide . But that’s a different topic . Point is I’m sick of memes . They’re not funny
@@WZ4RD3 And that is an opinion you are entitled to. However, you can't complain about memes and internet jokes that help in boosting someone's career when there's SO much worse shit people do that does the same (murder, drug selling, theft, etc.). Also, how is people sharing memes or making memes a sad thing? It's a form of entertainment and comedy; it makes people happy and just because it doesn't make you happy doesn't make it sad. That would be like me saying your favorite comedian is really bad and he should stop making jokes, and you would say the exact same thing I'm telling you.
also rappers don't just talk about what sells. Look at Lil' Dicky for example, who barely does that, and made tons of views off of a song that got a bunch of artists and creators to say outlandishly goofy shit as an animal to create a message that polluting the Earth is bad. That shit doesn't sell.
This take is wack as fuck. Having people make memes about you is a way of getting your name and face out there in a way that can help people laugh. Before meme promotion it was literally just ads and nobody likes ads.

Pop industry is oriented on people as following. You can be as homophobic and racist as you want, but you cant expect and force people to stick around with you after that just because it's 'you'. Be who you want, but how people are going to support your 'art' f they dont want anymore? If they won't be as supportive to you, so the labels, who first of all care for money and good reputation, will drop you out as well. That's how it all works, and not seeing this is too naive.

Thank you for being a decent human being who understands that we should be respectful of others no matter how different they are. I had the misfortune to check the comments section on a hip hop online magazine talking about how Lil Nas X's father responded to this (and what a shade that was) and it was quite disheartening to see *all comments* dismissing the situation and asking the openly gay author to stop bringing his politics into the community, and that he was a bad writer for reporting on something and giving his rightful take on it. The vast majority of those commenters made it abundantly clear that they're black, whether from their language or from saying that it's disgusting how white people ruin the community with white people's politics. I mean... Ugh 🤦🏻♂️ As if Lil Nas X, a black man, isn't gay and doesn't talk about homophobia in his songs and social media. Because all of a sudden, black men aren't allowed to be gay? If anything, this only serves to remind us all that there's so much turmoil in our own communities and it makes it difficult to progress at the pace we'd like, and to focus on the issues that affect us all, when people like this refuse to acknowledge that, in many ways, all minorities are in the same boat. And some can say that much more than others, such as Lil Nas X 🤷🏻♂️
