i dont really understand. when he was born, he was taught to be a girl, but decided to make himself a man as wiki said. then he understood that its not for him and went back to girl. but why is this song about the will to not to change if from the start he was born as a male? the phrases "will no longer change me" and "im the one to blame" dont add up
Basically the "will no longer change me" lines are her not caring what her village thinks anymore and finding who she is and "I'm the one to blame" is just self doubt (notice how it gets less loud as the song goes on) :>
First what you have to understand is that the song all takes place AFTER she dispels the supersition. Strive is 6 years after XX, when she finally becomes a bounty hunter. In between XX and Strive, she becomes the famed bounty hunter, who dispells the supersition and she can finally livd the gender she was born as, she spend 6 years attempting to present masculine however.... The first section is her feeling external pressure because now the supersition is over... why isn't she presenting masculine? The "town inside" her and "everyone's voice" is telling her she can be a man now! Only she's not there... she's just watching from afar. She can't go home, cause she's afraid something will change (she will have to be a man). "Me without me, I'm the one to blame." Now she blames herself for dispelling the supersition, because she has to change. The next section represents the 6 years she attempts to be a man. "I moved on, by my own will." It wasn't hard, but she didn't hate it, followed by a quiet inner voice saying "but I did not even like it." It's bearable... but now she has a grey haze. She never found out... followed by deflection. Just stress, don't worry about it. Now she talks about how she never actually wanted to run away from the village when she was younger. It's stated multiple times, even before Strive, she liked her childhood. She was simply motivated to dispell that silly supersition. But now the supersition dispelled and she's filled with all these negative feelings... what are these feelings? "Who would I ask?" She thinks maybe these feelings are normal, and she should just be patient and bear with these feelings until they go away. The grey haze never goes away. She never found out what.... she expresses feeling like "she tastes like vegetables she doesn't like" (which is such a good description of what gender dysphoria feels like, I'm STUNNED it's written by a cis man). Back to talking about the pressure of the town, first verse. Now she's getting confidence. She's not waiting anymore for a miraculous change to finally make her feel better pretending to be masculine. She has the "gift, she just can't open the box." She already knows what the problem is and no one but her can solve it. And nothing can happen until she does something about it. Back to struggling with her feelings, this time almost upset at her own patience. She HATES the alarm clock she chose (being forced into this routine by no one but herself). The town again, first verse. FINALLY, SELF ACCEPTANCE. "I'm out of patience". "I know who you are, I'm not leaving you again." "Me without me," but now "I'm the one to blame" is a faded memory. She doesn't blame herself anymore. She had to do it and this is all her journey now. "No matter what changes will no longer change me" is one of the most powerful trans statements I've ever heard. She will feel the light (which she describes as her body earlier) even when the sun goes down. There is a reason this is often proclaimed the "trans anthem." It's very well written, but you really have to understand Briget's own story to completely see it.
@@esharp48 uhm thank you guys for explanations i guess. i probably even asked specifically for explanation somewhere else, but still. i think ill further pretend that its just a funny tuny song
@@Sasha_Sasha69 I mean... did you NOT think it was about her being trans? Cause the creator and director have explained multiple times that Bridget's character arc in Strive is explicitly about her accepting she's trans.
@@esharp48 i understand, thats pretty bold lol. i mean i heard the lore of a character and didnt really understand it. and i mean i dont really care if its trans or not if its just a good person. thats why i thought this song is a bit odd
