I just watched your video about the Beyerdynamic MMX300 Gen. 2
I already left the like :), I would like to know which headset do you think is the best to play fortnite? hear the footsteps well if the enemy is up or down? I have Cloud II but honestly I didn't like it very much, I used the superlux hd681 before and I didn't feel much difference from one to the other.

Dt990 250 ohm are better at everything then these headphones I looked at the frequency response they have more bass better treble more soundstage plus they’re good for gaming, i power them with the audient Id 4 for $200 powers them perfect and don’t get the dt1990 they’re straight up worse and people like to get them, the dt990 are at least the best headphones for me until something new comes out and is able to beat it but for now they’re my forever headphones.

Keep in mind you have to burn them in them in for 7 days to a month depending on how much you use them, reviewers get them and don’t know that and think they’re harsh but after this period it becomes one of the smoothest headphones on the market.

The separation issue is because of the source. I don't have this problem with the Mayflower ARC Mk2. I hear things before anyone else does in PUBG, and are able to find other players location with ease.

Been competitively gaming with these for the last few months. Strongly disagree with your opinion of them not being great at positional audio. At this point I've tried a couple of dozen gaming headsets and more "audiophile" headphones, but nothing beats the MMX 300 + FiiO K3 combo for me.

The reason you might be having issues with the positional audio might just be the equalization towards bass. The best headsets for competitive gaming are neutral or skew towards mids and treble, as those frequencies are typically the ones with the footstep sounds. Its been well know in the audio industry for decades that more bass=sounds better to consumers, so why would Logitech make such a flat and neutral headset that objectively sounds worse? Because its made for competitive gaming. This is a problem with headphones in general, what is best for competitive gaming isnt best for immersive single player games or movies.

A Pad inside the actual headphone or on the speakers would, as it changes volume and sound impedance by a much higher margin and is actually done in some headphones.

I have the mmx 300 w both the choice letter and stock pads. The choice leathers are soo much more comfortable and the sound is more “dynamic”. They definitely make the headset really “fun”. That being said the leather pads completely kill the sound imaging and changes the sound. They make your ear further away from the driver, boost the bass and change the treble. This headset was tuned this way with the original pads to be advantageous for gaming. I get superb sound imaging with the stock pads on but the treble being boosted can be a little fatiguing.

Okay, I have a pair of these myself. Currently what I use pretty much all the time. I have to assume that your complaints about positional audio come from you being more 'used to' more 'neutral' headsets that don't have as deep a soundstage to pick through. A lot of 'gaming' headsets are designed to emphasize the footstep noises in their range. The Beyerdynamics focus on overall sound. Because you aren't getting those footsteps emphasized, they aren't as 'easy' to pick out, but they are still very much there and VERY well-positioned. It's just a matter of having your volume set well and being able to pick them out of the other noises you are hearing. In my case, it takes an outright explosive or particularly dominant rapid-fire gun to cause me to miss footsteps.
I have not once had issues like what you are describing when it comes to picking out footsteps, in any game. It could be that you had a semi-faulty set. It could be that whatever DAC you were using them with was doing something that altered things. Mine without any sort of DAC have no real issues picking out typical footsteps (when I am listening for them and am not being drowned in other louder noises).

I've had dozens of "Gaming" headsets. For a 1 shop sells all, the MMX 300s are the top option. Beyond that, I've used them 8 hours per day for work, and at least 2 hours per day for gaming for almost 5 years and have never had a single issue. They are reliable.
Positional audio took a while to get used to coming from traditional "Gaming" headsets. However, after so many years, I don't ever feel I'm at a disadvantage to anyone else due to audio.

Paying for the DTS:X license solved all of my positional audio issues. Most good sets like the MMX 300 will not come with proprietary spatial/surround features and that's for the better, that allows for us to experiment with superior options that already exist like DTS or Dolby Atmos
On my Penrose X, spatial sound was decent w/DolbyAtmos. But DTS really made a difference on the emphasized placement of lows/mids/highs + the position of voices/footsteps/activity happening close to my character. Putting all the bass where it should be, (explosions and guns, earth shattering effects) and mids/highs where they belong as well.

I have wh-1000xm2's, they arent gaming headphones by any means, but I am NEVER buying headphones that dont do good active noise cancellation again. I really hope Sony or Shure or Bose consider making their NC headphones a bit more general use/gaming and less business class traveler oriented. Because while the NC is amazing, all of these headphones have other quirks that make them less than friendly for general use or gaming.

    • @SianaGearz
      @SianaGearz 3 роки тому

Why do you want ANC? It leads to design compromises, i just don't believe that this is a very good technical direction. You can get a lot of mileage out of passive isolation, i would say Urbanears Zinken was a standout in this regard, but unfortunately they haven't been around for years, and problem is, their original pads explode with time, and will have all exploded by now, and the third party replacements lack both the sound, the comfort, and the isolation.

Competitive Advantage: I believe that this is one of the main reasons why a “gamer” would want to get a headphone that is specifically marketed as for “gamers”. Sound localisation (AKA “imaging”) is extremely important in a lot of competitive games, in particular when it comes to shooters wherein a player playing with sound would have a very distinct edge over another playing deaf. But really, the biggest advantage begins and ends there. Beyond that, the difference between individual headphones on playing performance is minimal at best. I do still think that there are better and worse headphones for gaming, mind you, but oftentimes the performance jump is inflated for marketing’s sake rather than any real indication of what you’d actually get in real life. The two big differences in headphones that aid in gaming are as follows: Tonal balance and Soundstage and imaging ability “Tonal balance” sounds like a scary complicated buzzword but it really is just the tuning of the headphone. Flat? Bass-boosted? Treble-emphasised? This kind of “sound mix” helps more than one might think. More often than not a competitive player would benefit the most out of a headphone that is tuned to neutrality or even a brighter tilt as crucial sound cues like footsteps and gunshots exist higher up in the frequency spectrum. Which is ironic, because many “gaming headphones” tend to be tuned rather bass-heavy, and so isn’t really competitive in this regard. You wouldn’t want footsteps and gunshots drowned out every time an explosion happens, or if a vehicle is idling nearby. Soundstage and imaging refers to how the sounds are placed in your hearing field. Soundstage moreso refers to how “wide” or “narrow” your simulated environment sounds, and imaging refers to how accurately sounds are positioned in said environment. In almost every case, an open-backed headphone (a headphone that does not block out any outside noise) will be the better than a closed-back headphone for staging and imaging ability. Open-backs typically sound wider with more pin-point imaging, of course assuming it is being used in a quiet environment. Which, again, is ironic as most “gaming headphones” are closed-back. So, if you’re someone who is really concerned with the competitive advantage a headphone would give you, then what you’re probably looking for is a neutral-to-bright, open-back headphone with a wide soundstage and good imaging. Keep that in mind as you read the rest of this article. Immersiveness: This aspect is much more subjective. Obviously for maximum immersiveness one would go for a headphone with the widest stage and best imaging, but the tuning is where things get iffy. Some may consider a flat/bright headphone to sound too boring or sterile when they’re trying to feel like being in a movie, so a bass-boosted headphone would be a much more “immersive” experience overall. For these people, the qualities that make a headphone “competitively advantageous” and “immersive” are at odds with one another, so they have to pick and choose. And if you’re the kind who would want the luxurious combo of wide stage, good imaging, and big bass… unfortunately, you’re not going to get big bass response out of an open-back headphone, and a closed-back headphone with big bass isn’t going to have the same staging and imaging as an open-backed one. A real catch-22. So maybe you’re looking for one or both of these characteristics in your gaming headphone, and/or maybe you’d also want… And even as all this is said and done, the most important point is this: ANY HEADPHONE CAN BE USED AS A GAMING HEADPHONE. There is nothing special about “gamer”-branded headphones that don’t already exist in regular headphones, apart from maybe a built-in microphone which can be purchased separately anyways. the best headphones for gaming at each major price point: Best under $50: KOSS KSC75, Best under $100: Philips SHP9500,
Best under $200: AKG K612 Pro or Hifiman HE400se, Best under $300: beyerdynamic DT880 Pro, Best under $500: Audio Technica ATH-R70x or Hifiman Sundara, Reasonable Endgame: Sennheiser HD800/S - MSRP: $1,600.

The part you did on gaming is misleading. I've had this headset for about a year now with Sheepskin pads with Shciit Stack DAC/AMP. Leather Pads like you show in this video is the culprit in bad positioning audio as it amplifies bass. Might be your DAC too because DAC/AMP combo can absolutely worsen sound, ESPECIALLY for headphones in this tier. My positional audio is as good as all my friends and I can hear footsteps that my friends can't in tense firefights in Valorant, CS.
*LEATHER = POWERFUL BASS AND IMMSERIVE*
*SHEEPSKIN = TIGHT PUNCHY BASS + EXCELLENT GAMING*

I have a MMX300 and LOVE it because it makes the environment far more richer and dynamic for immersion. A perfect headphone for single player games! But yeah, competitive gaming it's far from ideal. That said, most headphones are and companies promoting gaming headphones are full of it, especially when they push surround sound. To date, the best combination I have had for competitive gaming are Open Back headphones with a GSX 1000 amplifier. Fortunately I am not a competitive gamer so end up using my MMX300 most of the time because it gives me great sound quality for music and not just single player games, though I still use it for Apex Legends on occasion and don't do too badly; in fact I just became champion yesterday despite dropping in solo so I'm not averse to using my MMX300 for proper multiplayers.

The only thing better for music and fps games than that combo would be about 300 mmx with dekoni pads and a better dac. (I think these headphones "need" a slightly better dac than that fiio k3).
I tried more than 100 headphones (focal, fostex, audeze, hyperx, philips, sennheiser, hifiman, akg, etc) many dacs and amps, and i play csgo on premade daily at very high level (and other fps games). They're great for gaming, and great for music (it's not a flat, boring sound).
What makes you detect the enemies and the placement of the instruments, is not the mids or the soundstage, it is the image, which in these headphones as in the DT 1990 is magnificent.

@@norfolknwhey4787 The Roccat Kave XTD 5.1 is my go to headphones for gaming. It truly gives you true directional surround awareness thanks the multiple drivers angled at 12 degrees from each others. They sort of envelop the shape of your ears. So the wave form coming from the multiple speakers have different axis. The other headsets are subpar in that regard (especially the Razer Tiamat 7.1) because all speakers have the same planar axis presentation. When I switch back to my stereo headphones (HD 700/Sundara) supposedly with high sound stage I still lose spatial information compared to the Roccat Kave.
