    Thank you for a great and fair review Paul, and those are BEAUTIFUL builds, and I appreciate your solutions to the design limitations and the (now revised) ejector pin marks! Yes, we are new, it will be 4 years since the release of the Gray Ghost on July 1st. I am doing everything I can to design the kits to be easier to assemble for new builders, but challenging for skilled veterans and have had a vertical learning curve since Rick and I started the company. We have made updates and upgrades to some original parts and will in the future, we should be starting on the 2022 Camry soon and the Mustang after that when we get that license, but will have a 71 Roadrunner this fall and a new Superbird for 2023.

      @@paulsmessybenchmodels2602 What I like best about Jim's kits are that they are actual stock car bodies. Too many people equate what they see from the stands or on T.V., with what they see on the streets. When they see the real thing up close with their multiple small body changes, it's a bit of a shock. I think the RoadRunner is one of the best Jim has done so far.

    Paul, you're a great modeler. Showing us hands on issues help us avoid the brick wall, irritating part of scale model building. They look great so don't forget to share your second chance builds of the kits. thanks again for sharing your passion.

    Well done video. I am building the next gen Chase Elliott kit right now. Very well done on the fits. Goes together great. Very important to follow the steps in the instructions in order. As a Builders Club member I have build countless numbers of all the kits they have out. This next gen will raise the bar for all the kit manufacturers.

    This is an awesome video tutorial. Being a vintage racing fan, I got excited and purchased quite a few of the Salvino JR kits. I was a bit dismayed at the wonky proportions on the 1/25 new-tool bodies, and I’ve begun to correct the shapes and lines. It’s quite the task. Their ‘70s Monte Carlo body is especially misshapen…..sharp edges, pointy fender leading edges, flattened curves, incorrect window openings. I posted my pics of the necessary corrections in a few of the FB model groups, but got blasted for criticizing Jim Roger’s designs. I simply suggest that they let another set of eyes have a look before pressing the “go” button on their injection molding machines.

      I never noticed any shape issues but most of these cars I only remember from watching the TV back in the 70s-80s. People seem to have strong feelings about these kits and can get defensive of criticism. I try not to get too excited about these things! I imagine you could have a lot of fun trying to replicate all the subtle variations between cars as each team re-worked them.

    Well-done video, Paul. All great techniques that anyone can use. I didn't give extending the chassis much thought but definitely something to look at as I build more SJR kits. I like the beer can idea for the spoiler. I started doing radiator shrouds the same way after seeing Clay Kemp do a build up on the Gray Ghost Olds a few years back. Got you subbed as well. Take care!

    Great video. I gave thumbs up and scribed. I currently have the Donnie Allison Monte on my bench and it's my first Salvinos JR. I was surprised at the amount and severity of some of the issues associated with this particular kit, especially for the price. But as a longtime experienced modeler I rectified them almost identical to what you did. I'm still trying to come to grips with the real chrome although I must say it looks great, especially the bumpers. I think overall it will be a good looking build but they are not for the novice modeler. I've since bought the 83 Lemans and two Chargers. The Charger appears to be slightly less challenging as you mentioned. I don't know if I'll do a Next Gen or not as im not a big Hendrick fan. I understand that Salvinos is working on a modified. I'll definitely be trying one out. The kits you've done so far look great.

    Absolutely the best video on these kits! Subscribed! Quality control is an issue with them, ejection pin marks are my main gripe, my gen 7 wheels are junk! Short shot and poorly molded in general, one of the things I was most excited about with those kits. The bodies are magnificent in my opinion! Also the hood requires clearancing as it’s very tight between the fenders and after paint will not sit down flush. Also the instructions are problematic as some part numbers are incorrect or missing altogether. YOUR MODELS ARE GORGEOUS! Thanks
    PS what clearcoat do you like?

    • @paulsmessybenchmodels2602
      @paulsmessybenchmodels2602  2 роки тому +2

      Thanks man! Salvinos is pretty good about sending replacement parts if you ask them. Their climbing of the learning curve is apparent in a lot of things. For clearcoat I've been using 2K Clear from Splash Paints www.splash-paints.com/product-page/2k-ultra-gloss-clear . Make sure you get the catalyst too, you need both bottles.

    Don't strip salvinos Jr chrome all of mine has been magnetic and real chrome they use real chrome plating process same as real automotive chrome it has the nickel copper look to it under the right lighting most beautiful kit chrome I have ever seen in a model and you can't airbrush any type of special spray chrome like alclad or anything will look that good bare metal foil doesn't even look as good as salvinos Jr chrome but nice build and tips there is a lot of stuff in the trunk and bottom side of floor pans need to be fixed cuse it's in wrong spots or gaps that not supposed to be there

    Do you do a clear coat over the decals? I just got a JR 71 Richard Petty Roadrunner kit and the instructions recommend not to do a clear coat over the decals. Im not sure if it would be fine with a testors clear coat but Id like to know your thoughts. Thanks

    • @paulsmessybenchmodels2602
      @paulsmessybenchmodels2602  Рік тому

      I used a 2K clear which is safe over decals but needs to be airbrushed. If you are using spray cans you can put on the first 2-3 coats in a fine mist. Very light coats at first so that the solvent flashes off before it has time to eat the decals. After the mist coats have dried you can switch to wet coats.
