    Thank you, Jeff. Great tips here, even for someone who has been phonescoping for a year.

    I bought really good quality: Leopold 60x (85mm) and the Samsung S32 Ultra. Each has a sharp picture, but when I put them together with the 10x telephoto, it doesn't look as sharp as I know it should be. Does a polarizing lens help if placed in between the two?

    • @kowasportingoptics
      @kowasportingoptics  Рік тому

      Hello! Hard to say with the polarizing lens, but using a 10x lens on the smartphone combined with magnification of the scope is a massive amount of telephoto power which is very hard to control - so it might be that the image is suffering from motion blur due to the level of zoom, reducing the smartphone lens down to a 1x or 2x will probably give better sharper results. Hope this helps!

      @@kowasportingoptics Figured out the problem. I was focusing to correct my own vision, and thereby throwing out the picture image focus clarity. Scope reviews say nothing about this. What deceives you is that it looks fine at 20x, but when you begin to zoom in, the focus is noticeably off. It was this little finding about anything other than 20x that I determined there was nothing wrong with the glass, and that the problem was with something else. If you can see your phone screen clearly with whatever it takes to get your phone screen clear, use this reading glass magnification when focusing the scope. Again, no scope reviewer discusses this problem. Novice users are going to be blaming the glass when it has nothing to do with the glass.

    Recently was searching for information on digiscoping and most of it was from about a decade ago. Reckon it is due to these, mostly unsolved, problems you mention here. If these could be easily and quickly and consistently solved photographers would buy even fewer cameras. I bought a Chinese spotting scope that is decent for at least a beginning digiscoper but my problems are exactly the problems you mention here. If I had access to a 3D scanner/printer or CAD/CAM I could solve my problems myself. Otherwise I have to buy into a system like this which is more than I can afford at the moment. Good to find a recent and thorough guide to digiscoping though.

    Hi Jeff. Just stumbled on your video. About to start digiscoping, and your video is really helpful. I would like to ask what is the brand and model of the phone digiscoping adapter you are using? I do understand that this is specific to the phone, just want to read more on that. Thanks!

    All great and wonderful but you need to add in the phones sensor size to your calculations, so if you have a samsung galaxy ultra s22 with a 108mp camera taking in the sensors size, so when it pixel bins it becomes a 12 megapixel camera so your formula would be bases off a 12mp camera

    Hi Jeff, great video. I am another aspiring digiscoper. FYI the new Google app (not chrome, just google) will allow you to search pretty much anything. If you have a photo of a bird, yep. It will also let you search things such as a photo of a car, to tell you make and model. Flowers? Yep. Key words here.. clear photo/ subject, as with Merlin

    Thank you so much. I just returned from the 11th Annual Yampa Valley Crane Fesival with my Swarovski 10x42 Binoculars, where I discovered digital scoping . This really helps me to go on my next adventure.

    Trying to understand 15x-45x zoom on the TSN-553 as far as focal length in mm. I have an iPhone 12 Pro Max which supposedly is equiv to a full frame sensor @ 13mm? For digiscoping would it simply be 13mm x 15 zoom = 195mm (Min zoom) 13mm x 45 zoom = 585mm (Max zoom)?

      For smartphone digiscoping on the iphone 12 - you wouldn't want to use the ultra wide lens (13mm) this would give too much vignetting (black circle around the image)
      The standard wide lens is 26mm - this would give you the equivalent of 390mm - 1170mm
      You can also use the tele lens (58mm) this would give you the equivalent of 870mm - 2610mm
