My first MB was a 1989 Diamondback Sorrento $299. That was before any suspension (front or back) was available on any commercial available bike. A year later I bought a Cannondale M800 $899. With the hand welded aluminum frame and huge downtubes it was really exotic and seemed like it was magically lite weight. Next was just a few years later, a Cannondale Dual Suspension Super V. I'm not sure how much it was brand new because I bought it from a really rich friend but it had to be about $1500 and it had aftermarket Rock Shocks $400. and that was the most expensive MB back then that I had ever seen. I went to look at MBs recently thinking I was going to get one...What a joke on me. I had no idea.
Ive a Cannondale Trail 8 for 3 or 4 yrs. All it needed was to thru the front and rear wheel . I refitted the crank with a Mid-drive EMTB motor. No regrets still running great with usual maintenance.
Another great video. I know it’s direct to consumer but in my opinion the Canyon Grand Canyon 5 is probably the best entry level hardtail for the money. 29er with Shimano Deore 1x12 drivetrain, Shimano MT200 hydraulic disc brakes, Schwalbe tires & Suntour X1 100mm coil fork. It retails for $700 but it’s often on sale for around $500. I’m probably bias as I have a Stoic 3 that I love but the Grand Canyon packs a lot for the price
Holy crap! That's a smokin deal. I may do a little more research and follow up this video with a "best value hardtail" video or something. Include that Canyon you just mentioned. Thanks for watching!
"If you want to ride single track, these are some great bikes. Now watch me shred some gnar and jump which is something you really shouldn't do on these bikes." lol
i just bought a rockhopper sport for 540€. i compared several bikes (cannondale, trek, scott) that i can found in shops around, and the rock was the best option (along with scott) for components. i decided for specy rather than scott because i began with MTB with a 2000 rockhopper, and i was happy with its geometry, and because in the last 23 years i had: 2000 rockhopper, 1997 (maybe) dh palmer replica, 2003 demo9, 2013 (maybe) pitch, and i was always happy, they have a geometry that perfectly fits me.
They are great bikes if you ride casually on trails, but I wouldn't push them to aggressively. They are great bikes if you're just starting out . Heck, I still ride my Agressor 2.0. I love it! I never upgraded because I'm more of a casual trail rider.
Road biking background here, I bought a fatbike for the winter but I'm wondering if i need a front fork to hit some easier mountain bike trails this summer? My tires are 26x 4.8s
@bryandhispup hey what's up man?! I'm in KC. If you are looking to get in to mountain biking around here, some of the trails are pretty technical. That being said, I ride a hardtail a lot on pretty much everything and it does fine. I've also got a full suspension and that bike is probably more comfortable for the chunky stuff. I would look hard on Facebook market place and pink bike for something used. There are good deals out there, especially with winter coming. There is also a shop in the city called One Star Bikes. They have the best deals on mountain bikes. Shop is a little different than your typical shop, but that's where I'd look first.
@TysRides thanks for the help Ty! I had assumed you were close (formerly from the area, if nothing else) with the Belton Wrestling shirt and the JOCO license plate on the wall. I'll check out pink bike and that shop. Thanks again.
That's a really good point. Makes it nearly impossible to wheel upgrade. There are much better options out there for around the same price or just a bit more. I'm going to work on a video discussing those bikes.
Radon ZR Team 6.0 at sale for 599€ looks good. I have the radon ZR Team 8.0 and its pretty good for the price i think, so the 6.0 might be good too but i dont know. I know it isnt one of the big brands especially outside Germany
trek marlin 5 and 6 are slow ... was going to buy one , very disappointed... looking for a fast gravel, mountain bike that couple strokes you be ahead of the pack instead of struggling trying to catch up with your buddies.. anybody know of a fast mountain bike let me know , thks ... not looking to spend over $1000
@jandoxbsbnx most bikes in the under $1k mark are going to be similar. It's like Ford vs Chevy vs Dodge. Most are going to be similar. If you are on a $700 Trek and your buddy is on a $700 Specialized and he is way faster than you, it ain't the bike that's slow. I got buddies who are strong as hell. Put me on a $3,000 bike and them on a $700 bike and they could still dust me.
@@TysRides i understand where ur coming from.. i too have plenty of cheap bikes that ranges from 500 to $700 from costco to the trek fx and they're all faster then the marlin... the trek fx is also slow as heck, is it just trek that's made that way...cause my costco bikes and other family members bikes that are under $400 are faster then the marlin ...and trek fx
@jandoxbsbnx could be the bike I guess. Check out some of my other budget bike videos. I'm sure there are better options for under $1k than the Trek Marlin.
@ShepherdsSheepdog that bike is the Cannondale Trail 7.1. Covered at 4 minutes 52 seconds into the video. I just showed the black version in the video. If you go back, you can see that bike is offered as black or green. At 4:52 when I show the black bike, you can see a black dot and a green dot that shows the colors offered.
@ShepherdsSheepdog no problem. In hindsight, I should have probably shown the green one in the video. I think I found the thumbnail after the fact. I agree, though. The green looks awesome!
Im looking at couple hardtails the kona lauve is 539usd and diamond back hatch both hydraulic disc brakes i want somwthing upgradable and i do alot of jumps and trails will be extreme as i learn again after 10 year break ❤❤subbed already after 2 vids
I'm so glad we had much better quality at the entry level when I started mountain biking in the mid-90s!
My slightly-above- entry-level Schwinn High Plains 21 spd mountain bike was $365 in 1994, 30 year's ago, or $773.52 in today's $$.

A modern 500 dollar bike is better than the top end in in the 90's, you did not have quality in the 90's.

Those prices for a rockhopper is nuts. That should be Hardrock pricing and Rockhopper's should be more!
What about a bike with a 50t gear on the back 😅, great for beginners?
Bikes online or bikes direct…a bit more expensive but way better

The Rockhopper is kind of an iconic bike.
Looking at getting a Cannondale 7.1 for my first bike in many years.
Awesome!
What about ideal target ?
What about the gt agressor? I got it for $299 in Black Friday
I will check it out for sure.

A suspension fork might be nice, but you would just have to find one that can fit that wide tire.
