if you use a different wide angle lens the smo4k nd filter 3d print will work (stock nd filters wont) so you can just make the hole for the lens a little smaller in tinkercad as the hero 7 is a bigger diameter. obviously if you use the rc18g lens then gyroflow will crop the black corners anyway.
I like the video brother but this is so funny to me cause i just built a 3in aluminum armattan rooster prototype and im running a gopro session and a 4s 1300mah lipo on it and it's a 3in quad! total weight with all that stuff is 500 grams exactly and it flys great. and i fly it in 3D mode.
This is some serious tinkering. I do have a dead hero7 laying around and am feeling tempted, even though I know I would end up with not one, but two dead cameras.
To me it seems like the Thumb Pro almost comes close to being a decent camera for the < 3" whoop/toothpick use case. Especially with your replaceable lens mod. The other camera i was looking at this price range was that Hawkeye firefly x-lite 2, but i suspect that would make the footage a lot more shaky in winds on these little quads. Now all i have to do is wait for the next sale and pull the trigger. Good job!
It's pretty crap just.... weight. Also the form factor helps a lot compared to a naked gopro etc as there's less drag. For youtube phone vids on little stuff it does the job.
@@CoppertopFPV Yeah the weight and the form factor is what bothers me about the X-lite. The only reason i was even considering that one is because of the onboard wifi - which makes it super easy to get the footage and decide if i have to make another flight.
Nice info.. and thanks for the tutorial at th end.. im quite happy with rc18g lns for my pure naked thumb pro that i use with my 75mm 1s whoop.. and ratel lens with stock thumb pro chasing.
Really interesting. I've been playing around with trying to hack the runcam pro a bit myself. I found that the original one uses a wider lens mount than the wide. The original one has the smaller view, is that the one you're modding then? Which lens would you suggest to get a wider view and make it more like the -w?
I've watched the footage quiet a few times, with both lenses, Maybe someone has already commented, But I've slowed the video down to make sure, You don't seem to be wearing a hard hat ? Is this building site? YES... just be safe out there CTFPV... 🙂
@@CoppertopFPV hahahahaha! but think of the little people!!.... who will follow in your footsteps, first ruin a perfectly good camera, then get squashed by scaffolding. Sorry mate!! LOL

Stock lens barrel pops off easy enough if you warm it up. I was just curious :)
Wow very good video my friend that hero 7 camera is very good have a great day and a very big greeting from Colombia 😀
Wider FOV has certainly advantages, but narrower FOV seems more cinematic to my eyes.
I've been used the caddx ratel lens it's wider like the gopro but it's a lot sharper

Saw your vid earlier on FB. Looks good.
@@CoppertopFPV thanks... 😊✌️
does the rc18g lens also fits with the stock case? and can you use the counter ring to lock focus?
@@prottentogo nope. Its about 1-2mm longer...

I used the caddx ratel lense 1.66, its quite nice
Now that runcam thumb has the wider version i think this mod make no sense anymore. Right?
wrong! try getting a replacement lens for a thumb pro W i have all but given up after cracking mine on its maiden voyage
nice work
