Quail Growth Day 1 to 3 weeks

- Growth is fast but subtle. As they got older it got more challenging to get them to stay still where I wanted them for a photo. By day 12, they were able to fly, so then it REALLY got challenging! Plus, they go from a full crouch, to a full stretch, so getting them in the same position is really hard. The day card in each frame with the chicks is the size of a business card.
The learning curve for us was water! Those dumb little buggers were drowning. We had to get those little waterers for then; we only had chicken stuff.
They will literally get soaking wet then pile on top of eachother if you don't use a proper waterer. Switching to the cups would make life east
Same I lost 2 quail to water. Didn’t realize that they drown themselves very easily.
Mine were feet! Look how dirty buggers feetsies are through every pic lolol especially @ 1:12 🤣 dudes had bumblefoot RIGHT before moving outta the brooder! It was terrible 😭 it’s something I didn’t even think about when hatching coturnix with button 🥺💔 but thankfully I acted fast and they’ve all 100% healed. The button were (and even still are at 9 weeks old) OBSESSED with the dang coturnix man lolol I was so anxious about it when I put the eggs together in the incubator.. after realizing the size difference. It didn’t matter at all! They love each other 🤣 always preening each others faces and shit lmaooo. Only issue is when a male runs after a female and she sprints to get away….. if a few button are in her way, they get knocked down like damn bowling pins 😭 I have most separated now but the button would cry soooo loud every time I moved the coturnix out.. so some are still living under one roof
At what day/week were you able to determine male vs female?
Around 3 weeks you start to get an idea and some are obviously not spotted, but it's more like 4 weeks before you know for sure.
With what are the quails feeded in the first week?
You can feed them game bird starter their entire lives 25-30% protien. Make sure to add a calcium supplement starting week 5

What are you feeding them? Mine are on 30% protein game bird starter. They use a LOT of protein to grow!
@@crittersincassatt6065 yeah I think I need to make sure it's higher protein next time. I got the wrong starter feed and I just put them on 30% protein. Think they are just a little undersized but I could be tripping. First time raising quails
