We just took Ocean Jet from Cebu to Dumaguete via Bohol. Got tickets on line at the web site. It was worth the $30 or what ever it was to upgrade to business class. Good comfortable aircraft type seats. Thought it was going to be warm but it was inside with some strong air conditioning. There was cell data on my phone most of the way. There was an extra charge at the port in Cebu for baggage. 240 peso for two suitcases. They made me get rid of my water bottles but you can get more and food in terminal waiting area. Minimal snacks and small water sold on board.
I’ve done Oceanjet to Ormoc in business class and those seats were comfortable and then rode Supercat to Siquijor via Tagbiliran and NEVER riding them again as their business seats are same as tourist class and riding a boat for 4.5 hours wasn’t fun for me. I took the 1 hour ferry Siquijor to Dumaguete then flew back to Cebu which was awesome lol 35-40 min flight. Definitely recommend the flight
Well done - thanks. I'm a big believer in these point-to-point/door-to-door "dash cam" videos. (Would have liked to seen things at the Cebu end too -- every Dumaguette expat goes through Cebu, sooner later, right? And the generalization about buses -- phew. That's a top-of-the-list piece of information. All my travel plans assumed taking busses -- especially Manila-Baguio.
Wife refuses to take a vacation to the Philippines. She only hears about the dark side and events that happened years ago. Even so, I enjoy learning much about the customs and travel from one place to the other and all the tips provided. Thanks Gio!
💯 agree. Living in Southern Leyte, flying is just easier, faster, and sometimes cheaper. We can park the car at the airport and go. No need to arrange a bus or van to and from the sea port, going thru that whole process at the terminal, and then losing a lot of time as well.
Good info Gio. I will never forget my first ferry ride from Bacolod to Iloilo. On a ferry similar to that one. Christmas day 2012. And a Typhoon was approaching. The seas were angry that day. Boat was on it's side all the way there. Needless to say I found Jesus on that trip. Lol.
I've only done two ferries, and one coming up in about 2.5 hours. Bought tickets for "FastCat" and OceanJet on-line few days to a week ahead. Just don't think they keep a tight schedule. Last week, I should have had 1.5 hours to switch ferries, I had 5 minutes. Luckily the next ferry also left late.
Wife and I fly now. We used to drive but that road from Oslob to Cebu just beat the hell out of our car. I have never seen that much of a major road in such bad shape.
I’ve only taken the slow ferries in the Philippines. I don’t mind as I see the ferry ride as part of the adventure (vacation). My girlfriend prefers to fly 😂 even for short trips like CebuCity to CDO or Pagadian City. I did take a fast ferry before from Hong Kong to Macau in 1998. They called it Jet Foil. It was pretty fast and I think that it was $25 roundtrip.
Do you know how long to take a RoRo from Cebu or Dumagheti to Butuan? I might have to go there to buy a Triumph bike and bring it back to butuan if no dealer there
@@GiointhePhilippines Thanks Gio. When I get there in August, I was going to do the exact route you described from Cebu, but make it a few days to explore those other areas of the Philippines before I take the ferry to Dapitan/Dipolog where I'll be spending most of my time while on vacation. But I wonder if I should just fly from Cebu to Dipolog and miss out? Are those stops worth seeing? (Bohol, etc.)
Is there still a ferry that runs from Sibulan Port (Maayo Shipping Terminal) to Liloan Port in Santander? We are traveling to Dumaguete in November, and we scheduled a hotel in Oslob so we can spend the night there on our way to Cebu. I hope the ferry from Dumagette to Liloan Port is still running, LOL.
@GiointhePhilippines Okay, great! Looking forward to visiting and seeing how much things have changed. Watching your videos for the last few months has really been enlightening. Thank you!!
Hi Gio..On the cusp of spending 6-8 weeks in Philippines to consider retirement. Love your informative practical vloggs. On this vid I saw the ferry route you described. I was so scared of driving the bike at first, but 3 days later, and I was Batman on that 150!!! Busses and the nice white tourist vans, WANT YOU DEAD!!

It's about time somebody does a video from beginning to end and moment by moment on how it's done. Thanks for your time.

Yes, I'm with you Gio. Flying is better. Heat is already is exhausting so nope, I choose to fly:) thank you

Sounds like a smart alternative plan B vs doing the same trip on a big bike 😊
I love travelling by ferry I have done it a lot near Seattle and Vancouver. So spacious and lots of food options and can bring your car.

Those boats are excellent fun. Your lady is very polite to the inspection guys. I love that. All foreigners should take note
The overnights is really charming. The filaponos handle it so well.
Thanks I have been wondering about flying/boat travel in the Philippines.
Cool.. Thanks for sharing impt. information Gio. Enjoy and stay safe with your family.
Thank you, I will

The buses can be a bit scary, I have taken some that weren't bad but some are really agressive.
Great info thanks for sharing Gio!
You bet
Loved seeing the process! Thank you.
At 1pm there is an Ocean Jet going to Cebu, that only stops at Bohol. 4 hrs. 20 min. No need to stop at Siquijor.

Yea, it's horrible!

Not so pleasant to do your trip (in the opposite direction) on a big bike (to take along on the ferry) because of potholes etc.?
Take the Moalboal route and over the mountains. A little bit longer. The roads are not great, but I feel it's a much more relaxing trip (relatively)
Do the Cebu - Bohol - Cebu about once a month and have done Cebu - Bohol - Duma - Bohol - Cebu before. Easy
I’ve only taken the slow ferries in the Philippines. I don’t mind as I see the ferry ride as part of the adventure (vacation). How many times did you have to pay before actually getting to the boat - 3 times??
I took that same ferry a couple of weeks ago. Those tourist seats were very uncomfortable for me. It's worth it to upgrade to business class.
Next time for sure!
Gio, I think that maybe there are so many steps in order to employ more people.
How.long did it take to get there
How much did it cost
Good to know.
Hey gio if I was to travel from luzon to Cebu I will have to leave from manila correct
yea, I am not sure that would be worth it, it is a long trip. 1 hour plane ride.
Clark flies to Cebu too.. a lot easier than Manila ….
How much to take your car..round trip
To Cebu?
We did Cebu to Manila, 23 hours! Hot and uncomfortable cabin !! We'll FLY next time!😁
Book a stateroom on the 2GO Masagana 😊
I will try the ferry next time, I was afraid I might get sea sick so I flew.
Go for it!
Ride was very comfortable.
Do you know how long to take a RoRo from Cebu or Dumagheti to Butuan? I might have to go there to buy a Triumph bike and bring it back to butuan if no dealer there
The best route is Cebu to Nasipit and then bus to Butuan.
How am I going to get a Triumph motorcycle on a bus bud?
Gio it's only 15 pesos for the trike to take you inside the port no need to walk sir
We had a friend drop us off.
I prefer to use a flight ✈️
Is there a website to look at ferry schedules/destinations in the Philippines?
Yes, ocean jet and fast craft

great info!!! for walk ons do you recommend buying tix ahead of time? (we are doing Duma to Siquior next month).
Buy a few days ahead.
@@GiointhePhilippines ok, will do, thanks!
Gio, what is it for 1 adult round trip? I'll be doing that most likely after I get settled in town and begin exploring.
Around 3k pesos.

Yes, that is very doable
Gio how long is your itinerary in Cebu? If you have time I'd love to take you to coffee/brunch at Tightrope, one of of my favorite cafes in Cebu
You can fly for about 50.00 dollars each I believe!!!
I hope the employees on the Philippines ferries are nicer than the grouches you interact with on Greek ferries.
What a hassle to get on a domestic ferry................😶

I am flying into Cebu in a few weeks with 2 dogs. Would it be better to catch a ferry rather than fly to Duma? Are dogs even allowed on the ferry?
Yes, they are allowed
I've heard inflation is causing prices to go up and that the Phillippines is the next booming economy. How true is this and how is it affecting you?
4:07 Philippines and all of their extra steps to do anything 🤷
