Gerry and the Pacemakers were part of the '64 British Invasion. The Mersey is a river around Liverpool, England. Along with the Beatles, they were part of the Merseybeat scene.
This is another great British group from the 60's during the Merseybeat scene. They had a lot in common with The Beatles as they both came from Liverpool, were managed by Brian Epstein, and were recorded by George Martin. They had a lot of great hits such as "How Do You Do It?", "I Like It", You'll Never Walk Alone", "Ferry Cross the Mersey" & "Don't Let the Sun Catch You Crying". Sadly the lead singer Gerry Marsden died this year.
Pronounced like Jerry & the pacemakers-their other huge ballad-Don't Let The Sun Catch You Crying is also worth a listen as is their uptempo tune I Like It and How do You do It. Another huge British band-the Dave Clark five-has a deep rabbit hole-a group that rivaled the Beatles in 1964. Hits of theirs include Glad all Over, bits and Pieces, Because, any Way You Want It, Come Home, I like It Like That,Over And Over, reelin And Rockin, At the Scene and You Got What It Takes-they had the most appearances on the Ed sullivan show which launched the Beatles in the US.
You forgot the Pacemakers' You'll Never Walk Alone, you only need to hear 60 thousand people singing it to know it's something special. ua-cam.com/video/Go-jJlGd1so/v-deo.html
Gerry sang the song which became the anthem for Liverpool Football Club 'You'll never walk alone.' Gerry who sadly died this year also did something the Beatles could not manage. His 1st 3 records went to No.1 in the UK charts. Great singer lovable person. Thanks Gerry
Don’t Let The Sun Catch You Crying is another fantastic song by Gerry & The Pacemakers … as soon as their songs are played I remember all the words to the songs! I was a teen when the British Invasion began & man there are so many beautiful songs from these young bands from 🇬🇧!! Some you will need tissues !
Merseyshire, the county of the Mersey River in the song, was home to many groups who put a particularly harmonic and melodic stamp on 1960’s, “British Invasion” rock and roll.
❤️🥰❤️ Hello S & M SQUAD, HAPPY HOLIDAYS !!! ☃️❄️🎄⭐️ I’ve like this song, because, to ME, no matter where you’re from, “home” is where you’re.always welcome!!! ❤️ ❤️🥰❤️ S and M SQUAD IS THE BEST!!! ❤️🥰❤️
The Mersey beat, emanating from Liverpool, England, was the foundation for the British Invasion of the American music scene, beginning with the Beatles in 1964. Goodbye to innocence and conformity - hello to change. The 1960s were all about change (Vietnam, Civil Rights, Hippies, Drugs, Feminism, loud colors, etc., etc.)
I was 5 yes old when this song was realised. It another great song from the Merseybeat and along with the Beatles, Cilla Black etc. It is another song from the iconic sixties. It is about his love of Liverpool and the River Mersey in NW England. It brings back such good memories for me, as a child. Things were so much simpler back then. I am now 63 and brings a tear to my eye.
This was was one of my late brother’s favorite songs in the sixties. Hearing it reminds me of him. His 67th birthday would have been on the 21st of this month. I miss his love of music and laughter. Thanks for bringing back the memories.
At the end, they were talking about Brian Epstein, the Beatles' manager who started adding more bands to his business. Brian died 2 years later of a probable accidental overdose.
They were the first Liverpool group to hit number 1 in the UK with their first record How Do You Do It. The Beatles didn’t get to the top spot until their second record. When I saw them headline at the Fairfield Halls in Croydon, there was a relatively unknown support band that closed the first half called The Rolling Stones.
This song is from a film Gerry and the Pacemakers made which as a child I went to see. The Mersey is the main river that flows in front of Liverpool. He lived on Merseyside / Liverpool for all his life.
Don't let the sun catch you cryin'. I'm just sayin' Also Rickie Lee Jones' cover of it. Both are what a love song should be. Ever since it came out, this sound has had a haunting quality to it. The bittersweet symphonic strings maybe. Always loved it, and the sentiment. I feel that way here. One should land where they feel this way.
I remember this song like it was yesterday. They also made a movie "Ferry Cross the Mersey". I'm 67 years old but I was 11 when I saw this Movie at a Saturday matinee.
Thanks for your reply, my friend. I thought you were much older than me. I was born on the 18th May 1954 :) I have written it that way as, in London, we write the date as 18/5/54. Goof Luck...
The Mersey side of the river, Liverpool, England. The Beatles came from Liverpool too. They also called it the Mersey beat. Part of the British invasion in popular music
Gerry Marsden had an absolutely unique voice. Watch him perform 'You'll never Walk Alone' at Anfield, the home of Liverpool Football Club the n a full ground.
Others have noticed the phenomenon of British pop singers singing without a British accent. Some suggest that they grew up listening to American rock and roll records and therefore mimicked the American sound in their own songs.
You guys are a great couple you bring a lot of love and positivity. I want you to try several Herman’s hermits songs they actually knocked the Beatles out of first place a few times. 2 songs in particular to check called listen people and the other is called it’s a kind of hush to beautiful songs that were big. Another one is Mrs. Brown you got a lovely daughter. God bless you two you are a credit to your generation you understand good music.
At the end of the video, the Brian Epstein he is talking about is the manager of the Beatles - who also managed Gerry and the Pacemakers. Love the laid back groove of this!
You should listen to their version of You'll Never Walk Alone. It has become the anthem of Liverpool Football Club and gets played before every match. To be in the stadium and hear 50 000+ Scousers singing along is spine tingling stuff.
Put in Celtic v Barcelona with ALL 60,000 Celtic fans singing AND,unlike Liverpool, the P A System is turned off 1/2 way thru' my friend and it is only the crowd :)
Nice song, I'm listening to music over 60 years heard it back then on the radio. Not one of my favorite groups but a nice mellow song. He passed recently, RIP Jerry
I am a fan of yours! Love all the songs you play. I have another song I’m sure you have never heard! I love Brenda Lee, I more or less grew up with her. The song is “Everybody loves me but you.” Best to you both!
Gerry was true to his word he loved his city (Liverpool ) he was a scouser through and through he never left and he sings the anthem to our beloved football team (You’ll Never Walk Alone ) to me he’s more of an icon than The Beatles , fun fact my city Liverpool has had more number 1 hits than any other city in Britain…………I’ll wait for the haters of Liverpool to appear hahaha
My goodness you can hear that Scouse (Liverpudlian) accent very clearly 😂 😂 The Beatles purposely toned theirs down quite a bit so that non-Brits could understand them.
Love Gerry and the Pacemakers and I agree with other comments you should definilely listen to "You'll Never Walk Alone" (official video) by them, a beautifull song, made even more poignant by the tragedy of the Hilsborough Disaster
PLEASE react to their "Don't Let the Sun Catch You Crying," too, its even *more* beautiful than this, and is their best ever (and is my favorite). Thx again for the great music and reactions!
Gerry and the Pacemakers'"Don't let the sun catch you crying" and "You'll never walk alone" are two greats in my opinion.R.I.P.Gerry.
Rickie Lee Jones did a pretty cover.
Yes love these two songs
Gerry and the Pacemakers were part of the '64 British Invasion. The Mersey is a river around Liverpool, England. Along with the Beatles, they were part of the Merseybeat scene.
Yes and the Merseys, the merseybeats, the searchers

"I'll Be There" is another..
Oh, that *is* sad!!

Glad someone has reacted to these guys. next by this group Don't let the sun catch you crying
their best song in my opinion is "don't let the sun catch you crying"... a beautiful melancholy song....
with George Martin the Beatles' producer playing the lovely oboe obbligato. A beautiful song.
This is my go-to karaoke song. The Mersey is the river that runs through Liverpool, which, like the Beatles, is where these guys came from.
They have another great hit called "Don't Let The Sun Catch You Crying."
My sister and I once took a ferry across the Mersey river when we visited Liverpool and we sang this song while we were on the ferry. It was fun.
Gerry sang the song which became the anthem for Liverpool Football Club 'You'll never walk alone.'
Gerry who sadly died this year also did something the Beatles could not manage. His 1st 3 records went to No.1 in the UK charts.
Great singer lovable person.Thanks Gerry
I was born on the southern side of the Mersey, on the Wirral. I now live far away but the song still makes me feel about my roots.
I saw this group at the Cavern club in Liverpool together with the Beatles in 1962, great memories!
Great song and group of the 1960's check out their other hit song Don't let the sun catch you crying that is another banger
RIP Gerry!
I was 13 when this came out another great song from then was I’m into something good by Herman’s hermits

I was in a band when this came out and we covered it. Such a beautiful song.

I always loved this song and performed it many times over the years.
"You'll never walk alone", probably the most popular sports anthem world wide
Another British group that were popular at the time of the Beatles.
Gerry made some great music. He passed away back in January.
Yes! Been waiting for someone to react to this! Love this song so much! TY!
Same
Gerry Marsden died 11 months ago at age 79. He and that other group put Liverpool on the map.
I love watching videos with you. Especially when they are from when I was young.
Thx! Love you guys! Brian Epstein (mentioned at the end) was the Beatles’ manager as well! Whole different hole to go down!
In the end they're talking about the late Brian Epstein, whom also managed The Beatles
All this early to mid 60's music is the soundtrack to my youth!
This was was one of my late brother’s favorite songs in the sixties. Hearing it reminds me of him. His 67th birthday would have been on the 21st of this month. I miss his love of music and laughter. Thanks for bringing back the memories.
One of there best songs! Listen to "Don't let the sun catch you crying". Also one of their best!
At the end, they were talking about Brian Epstein, the Beatles' manager who started adding more bands to his business. Brian died 2 years later of a probable accidental overdose.
What a great sound... Don't let the sun catch you crying is my favorite
I love this. A memory shaker, appreciate the older music. Thank you

When I saw them headline at the Fairfield Halls in Croydon, there was a relatively unknown support band that closed the first half called The Rolling Stones.
Heard this song in a movie Gerry was in at a drive-in in Reseda, California. 1966. Memories.
This song is from a film Gerry and the Pacemakers made which as a child I went to see. The Mersey is the main river that flows in front of Liverpool. He lived on Merseyside / Liverpool for all his life.
This song takes me back to middle school (Jr high) waking up to this song on my radio
You have just began to study the great British Invasion! The Beatles, The Hollies, the Stones and so many more. Enjoy!
Shiver down my neck every time, love this song
Listen to don't let the sun catch you crying gerry and the pacemakers so beautiful
Don't let the sun catch you cryin'. I'm just sayin' Also Rickie Lee Jones' cover of it. Both are what a love song should be.

So glad you are enjoying the music I grew up with. Love your reactions. 🇦🇺
Love Jerry. Love the song. His voice is fantastic. Love it!.
I remember this song like it was yesterday. They also made a movie "Ferry Cross the Mersey". I'm 67 years old but I was 11 when I saw this Movie at a Saturday matinee.

The Mersey side of the river, Liverpool, England. The Beatles came from Liverpool too. They also called it the Mersey beat. Part of the British invasion in popular music
Love their sound and his voice so much 🎶🎵
Gerry Marsden had an absolutely unique voice. Watch him perform 'You'll never Walk Alone' at Anfield, the home of Liverpool Football Club the n a full ground.
Mersey River runs just south of LIverpool, where the Beatles are from. Lots of 60s English bands came from there.
Others have noticed the phenomenon of British pop singers singing without a British accent. Some suggest that they grew up listening to American rock and roll records and therefore mimicked the American sound in their own songs.
"How do you do "by Gerry, you will enjoy 😎 thanks 🏹
Nice song-was in 8th grade when this came out. the 60's British Revolution
Gerry and the Pacemakers are great. My fav by them is "How do you do it" ☺
It's Gerry pronounced ''Jerry'' and they came from the part of the world as The Beatles and even had the same management and record producing team.
Liverpool that’s where the river Mersey is
You guys are a great couple you bring a lot of love and positivity. What a cool, cool voice he had.
You guys should try "We Five - You Were On My Mind", it's the same time-frame.

This song whisks me right back to the 60s, it has such a sixties vibe.
I have always loved this song 🎵
English accent was a scouse accent as he was from liverpool
Their version of You’ll Never Walk Alone is fantastic (it is the anthem of Liverpool Football Club).
My favorites are "I Like It" and "Don't Let the Sun Catch You Crying."
Gerry is pronounced like Jerry. I was looking for the film that accompanied this song.
Enjoyed your reactions. ✌🏼
PS, Gerry really did stay.
At the end of the video, the Brian Epstein he is talking about is the manager of the Beatles - who also managed Gerry and the Pacemakers. Love the laid back groove of this!

In the 60s the US had the motown sound
In the UK we had merseybeat

Classic British Invasion following The Beatles!
