Very interesting and long overdue interview on the decline in angling with one of the greatest all-around anglers and industry insiders today. The decline in angling has Numerous causes, l beleve the 3 main causes are. 1. Covid proved this with the increase, then a decrease in numbers. People on the whole are, cash rich time poor. 2. This also in part relates to point 1. Mostly related to the young. They don't have a family member or mentor to introduce them to angling, especially with fragmented families living Miles away from each other. 3. If there is an individual interest with no mentor, social media sets the bar so high with captures of big fish and winning match weights with no context and the answer to achieving this is always in product placement used in that video. That an individual dabbles in the sport for a few trips doesn't catch a thirty pound carp or catch 250 pounds of fish from a commercial, so becomes disillusioned. I can only hope there will be a generational change and evaluation of life's priorities. But till then in the uk at least. It's about managing decline.
