Eric Carr was the best drummer KISS had. And one of the best and nicest musicians on Earth. So heartwarming to hear Gene (and Paul in another interview) speak so highly of him
The only thing that took Eric Carr out of KISS was Death itself. He didn't get fired, he didn't seem like he partied a lot, and he didn't cause problems. He died waaaaaay too early! Rest In Peace, Eric Carr! You were more than just "The Fox". You were a TRUE Human Being! We love you, and miss you terribly!!!
I met Eric & the band back in 1988 at their hotel in paris a day before the show. It is true that eric was so nice and took the time to talk to evryone. A fan gave Eric a copy of his crazy night drum set and Eric was like a kid before his xmas gift. He kept on asking questions and you could see into his eyes how happy he was to receive such a thing. RIP Eric

Gene spoke from his heart. I even felt moved as Gene was talking in detail about Eric's last days on earth. Gene can act like a jerk at times, but when he does speak, he is extremely eloquent.
+Han Solo Gene can be a scumbag, as well as Paul. Just listen to Peter Criss talk to Eddie Trunk. Peter was suffering from cancer (thank God that he recovered). When in the hospital, neither Gene nor Paul called him expressing sympathy nor encouragement. Peter said he was hurt very badly by their lack of empathy. What a pair of P.O.S. those two are.
+stan broniszewski You really need to get back on your lithium, Stan. Your swings from manic states to depressed states are seeming to become more, and more frequent, and much more extreme. One of the finest 180s I've ever seen pulled on UA-cam. Stellar confusion!
Hannah Stalnaker Weird that Stan was so supportive of Gene in his original post, and then to turn around, and call him a piece of shit... That's kind of fucked, don't you think?
I heard of people who talked about Gene cutting off Eric's life insurance from the band's budget. Those people need to watch this clip, Gene's demeanor, the tone in his voice is anything but business-like, he talks about losing a friend and you see that it still hurts to talk about Eric Carr's death. He's talking not about Eric Carr but about Paul Caravello and he's doing so as Chaim Weitz, not as Gene Simmons.

Yep, don't believe everything you hear. I met Gene, he was super cool! And, surprisingly funny...Paul though was kind of a tool, but you can't win em all.
He's a phony he left Eric Carr out to die Eric Carr was cleared to play they said he was a liar in liability fired him and cancelled his health insurance
The Australian tour with Eric was brilliant, we embraced him whole heartedly. His voice was great and his playing was amazing and his Ludwig kit rocked. The Fox was all over the papers and magazines, his make up fitted perfectly and his playing lifted the music. He was on the Icy pole packets of 1980, it was a lot of fun and everyone loved him and Peter Criss the same. His drumming and drum sound on Creatures is second to none....I wish he was still playing, he still puts a smile on my dial when I think of him. ❤️
Eric was a fantastic man! I still love and miss him so much I can't even start to say. I met him and I feel so blessed for that experience. He spent like half an hour to 45 minutes just talking and joking with me at Ceasars Palace in Las Vegas after the show at the Aladdin. I think it was in 1984. God bless him and may he rest in peace. I will see him again someday in Heaven.
This video is why Gene Simmons has been so successful for 40 years. He had the audience holding on to every word with an emotional speech at first and then had them laughing telling a funny story at the end. Say what you want about him but he is shockingly charismatic and interesting. He may be a great guy. He may be a dick. But you cant say he's boring.
+Seanzie_73 There's a tutorial here on UA-cam about how Gene does his stage makeup. He does it on his own daughter, and in that short video I could see that she meant the world to him. Just because I may not agree with everything he says, that doesn't mean that I wouldn't love to meet him one day.
I hung out with Gene in 1989 and 1992. He is a class act, very smart and has a great sense of humor. This sweet respectful valedictory for Carr demonstrates the great guy he is.
I can't even watch or listen tot he song for God Gave Rock N Roll To You without even crying. Thinking that that was the last we were going to ever see Eric again. He was by far my favorite drummer of KISS. I have much love and respect for Eric. He's the reason why I even want to learn to play drums. Rest in peace, Eric (you beautiful soul you).
I have taken Drums also because of Eric Carr, not only was he very talented, but also a very nice person, Gene Simmons has said his death just doesn't seem fair.
I haven't even begun to learn drums yet. But it's on my bucket list. I have however started to learn to guitar (thanks to Paul and Ace). But I feel bad, Eric died way to frickin' young. And it's evidence that Gene (and quite possibly Paul) took Eric's death hard. If you watch past KISS videos you see that all band members were close to Eric. And loved him. As we the fans do.
The last concert in America of Kiss in makeup was April 3rd, 1983 in San Francisco, my first Kiss concert, I got to see Eric Carr on the drums, me and my brother (who is dead) a great memory.
Indeed. He's always been a bit of a grump in general. But he's really really nice in the right company, especially if you like to talk comics. He and Paul really liked Eric. Who didn't??!! He was respectful and very UNLIKE a rockstar in a human way.
@@eastcumbriancollector983 I will conceed that "most" people are nice in the right company. When you're at this level of fame, it's difficult to stay nice in any company without the right people in your life. Those people are rare, sadly... even when you're dirt poor.
In his song "asshole" he says "maybe im an asshole too" and sometimes he is , but not all of the time, you can say he is a complete douche bag, but he's actually pretty nice on the inside. So stop saying that
I knew right away he was the right drummer for Kiss the first time I heard "I love it loud". He took every they did before and made it faster, louder and heavier. Kiss' first heavy metal drummer.
Eric Carr was asked which KISS Album he liked the least. His answer? Music From The Elder (1981). He was also asked: Which KISS Album do you like the most. His answer? Creatures Of The Night (1982). That, folks, shows you that this guy had a great head on his shoulders, thinking-wise! He banged the proverbial stuffing outta those drums for Creatures Of The Night, and he loved it! If you look at the Credits Section, as to who played or sang what on Creatures, Eric Carr actually played Bass Guitar on the song "I Still Love You". True fact! He could play drums, and sing Backing Vocals, and he could play Bass Guitar, too. He was definitely Multi-Talented, and it showed, too. Rest In Peace, Eric Carr. We love you, and we miss you!
@@ronaldshank7589He also played guitar some. There’s a backstage outtake of Paul, Gene, Eric and Bruce playing an acoustic guitar and singing Beatles songs.
After hearing this story from so many points of view over the years, my sense was, the bottom line was...they didn't think/know he was going to die. If you read Paul's book, Eric had stopped talking to him on the couple of tours prior to this. Gene is always so full of thoughts about himself, that I don't think he always remembers things the way they really happened. I think he just gives sound-bite worthy speeches. Don't mean that as cutting him down, just saying, I just think everyone kind of took the situation for granted. Kiss were in a very important time of their career, as they had a hit with Forever, they were working with Bob Ezrin again and Gene was re-engaged. I think they were all very focused on moving forward and were kind of in denial about the serious nature of Eric's health. I doubt Eric had accepted he was going to die either. But given his situation, I think he was very angry and chose to blame the band for cutting him off and they were oblivious to it.
I think that’s part of it. I don’t think they cut him off totally because of money, but also because of his fragile health. I do think they cared about him.
It was Eric's time.just think of what he left behind in 41 years and the effect and influence he had on people.July 25 1980 N.Y. Palladium.Erics first show with kiss.He did a drum solo that still resonates in my head !!! He also had that rasp singing Black Diamand.
I met Gene in 02. We had a very intense half hour talk about music and life. This is what he was like with me. Very cool, down to earth and real. As I was with him.
But in Paul's book he said that Eric's family basically wrote them off after Eric passed. Paul says he now knows why, and he wishes he could do it differently
i was too young to know eric carrs music with kiss but for gene simmons I have the upmost respect for him not just as a great musician but a person that cares about his fans cares about his community and cares about who he works with.
Once Eric Carr actually did a telephone interview with someone from my college newspaper. He didn't have to do it, but he did, that's the kind of guy Eric Carr was.
This man has said word for word what I have said all along. Do not mourn their death, rejoice over their life. However, I am still going to visit Eric's burial place.
I recently watched the Eric Carr story and was blown away by his personality and love all who knew him felt for the guy. I really would liked to have met him and seen him perform.
Eric, our pretty boy. You're on our minds every second, and we miss you more by everyday that goes. You gave us so much. You inspired so many, and we're gonna do what you couldn't finish. We're gonna live for you. We love you undescribably much. Hope you have it peacefully up there in the clouds, and playing drums for all the angels. I bet you have a whole crowd there cheering for you. Cuz we are. You are our angel. Rest i peace, and never forget how much we love you Paul Charles Caravello☁️🤍🦊
gene is such a good so is paul god bless both of them i love them i lost my great aunt from stomach cancer i miss her very much she had two to three weeks left to live she didn't make though one week she passed away right before Christmas i miss her 😔
Gene is a good man. You can say things about him but who of us are perfect ? We all are human. Gene and Eric and Paul are good guys. They worked hard and against the odds because successful. Who can fault them for that . Nobody. God bless
Thank you Gene for keepin' real. There are folks out there that don't truly know the whole story. They need to see this from the lion's 'tongue'. Truth be told, Gene and Paul loved Eric. Rest In Peace Eric. We miss you deeply.
Two different stories from Gene and Paul. Paul fell in love with Eric Singer during his solo tour while Eric and Paul admittedly had a strained relationship. Eric was kept isolated from Kiss in his final days because he knew they were going to fire him and terminate his insurance. Paul was fed up with Eric. I'm inclined to believe Gary Corbett instead of Gene and Paul because those two were very close during the HITS days.
Eric Carr is one of the best class Acts in Rock Music got to meet Kiss in 1988 and Eric and Gene were so great they were so nice and I'll never forget how humble they both were. It was a awesome moment in my life have loved kiss as long as I can remember.
Well it's the good that die young right? No mystery here. RIP Eric Carr. Gr8 drummer and a champion human being , privileged 2 have seen him performing live in Melbourne.
This video was uploaded 6 yrs ago. In the meantime the truth revealed. They, actually, paul is the boss, so they FIRED Eric and did not paid His medical bills that's why Eric's family did not let them visit Eric in hospital. Don't believe me? Google is your friend! They were not even invited to Eric's funeral! They were there and played the good guys. So, "nice" lies, chaim! As time goes by, now everything seems to be forgiven paul and chaim, so I say no more... Money talks...
hes such a sincere man and loved by so many , i never listen to a second gossip i dont believe what people say about him , hes a great father and a faithful husband
He may be saying all the right things, but it wasn't really a classy move on their part to get the new replacement drummer, Eric Singer in the band and do an album while the poor guy was battling cancer. They could've put things on hold and done the Revenge album after. Eric Carr was devastated when they told him they were getting another guy to 'temporarily' replace him. Eric's family's displeasure was evident at the funeral.
2:00 he said paul n him knew he wasnt going to make it but paul mention that he didnt think he was going to make it. He never thought he wasnt going to passed.
I was a huge fan of KISS starting in 6th grade. My friends and I would blast their music whenever our parents weren't around. '77...probably the single best year for music that I can recall. Many bands put out great albums that year. The next best...and maybe last year...at least for awhile anyway was about '80. An album called Back in Black came out and blew everybody away! The Cars, AC/DC, STYX, Aerosmith, Journey...yep those were great years for music!! After that it was New Wave then Rap then...FUCK YEAH METALLICA!! The world was ok again! LMAO!
+The Great Gazoo I think you're putting too much effort into fucking with Fred, there Gazoo... New Wave, then Rap, then Metallica? That's a pretty fucked chronology... Yes, Rap music began to emerge in popular culture in the mid-eighties, but it would not receive vast mainstream acceptance until the end of the grunge/90s alternative era. In the early 2000s, rock n' roll missed it's cue to change from the whiny, everyman, anti-rock star attitude seen since '92, and instead, chose to keep on with the anti-fame and fortune bullshit... Millionaires acting like everyday people, is a stupid approach. The fans want to see their rock stars act like rock stars... Big cars, big mansions, and big money. Not, hiding the fact they have four Ferarris, live in a massive house with a butler, and make more money than any of us could ever dream of... The fans need something to look up to, and I'm sorry, but the vast majority of post-1992 'rock stars' are not that. The rock star flash was picked up by the superstars of the hip-hop world. I'm not a fan of hip-hop, but it's not hard to see that they, without a doubt have taken the crown that could have once again by rock music. It would appear that rock n' roll may, in fact be dead... and they only have theirselves to blame. Oh, and Gazoo. I almost forgot.. Metallica had been a pretty big deal since 1983... Not the fucking 'Black Album' era, to which you give a nod...
Gene missing the point about God. Good people die young all the time. You were blessed to know him. I got to meet him a year before he died. Got to talk to him for five minutes. He was kind and humble. I feel blessed for that meeting
I love KISS, and I believe Gene and Paul loved and appreciated Eric Carr, but if there is a God, and there is, Gene isn't going to tell God to sit down .. Gene and Paul are my favorites but the arrogance and pride has no limits with Gene. I agree with Gene's point about celebrating Eric's life and I do celebrate it everyday.
I agree with Gene that Eric Carr did not receive cosmic justice for his death but he also would have died if he would've been bumped for the Reunion Tour just four years after his death. I strongly believe in the deepest part of my heart that God took Eric home when He did to spare him the pain, agony & betrayal he would've felt if he would've been bumped for Peter to come back. No one deserved the drum throne of KISS more than Eric Carr.

Hope you have it peacefully up there in the clouds, and playing drums for all the angels. I bet you have a whole crowd there cheering for you. Cuz we are. You are our angel. Rest i peace, and never forget how much we love you Paul Charles Caravello☁️🤍🦊
I've never seen Gene this soft spoken. He and the guys must really miss Eric. :(
Eric carr was a legend because of his heart cancer he died. But theres one eric carr left, emc productions
You hear about Eric Carr and you complain you how bad life is going?!? Puts life in perspective.
gene is such a good so is paul god bless both of them i love them i lost my great aunt from stomach cancer i miss her very much she had two to three weeks left to live she didn't make though one week she passed away right before Christmas i miss her 😔
As much of a douche Gene can be, he sincerely loved Eric and it shows here❤️
Rest In Peace Eric Carr. You’ll always be loved and remembered by everyone and me. Thank for everything you do. :(
that is a very different story then Paul's story !
Michael Skewes I KNOW!! ..I just wrote a long comment on that very thing.
@@jimmykrackkorn4347 I'm thinking Paul was telling the truth.
Gene is a good man. You can say things about him but who of us are perfect ? We all are human. Gene and Eric and Paul are good guys. They worked hard and against the odds because successful. Who can fault them for that . Nobody. God bless
RESPECT. Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley are proper.
every once in a while Gene shows real class, this is one of those times. Thanks so much for posting.
Fired is too harsh of a word
What a personality, huge charisma!!
Chaim Witz, he lives and dies for gold and silver !
God bless Eric gene did him a great tribute here
I actually knew Eric's parents for a short while after he passed. They were really nice people...
Paul and Gene did him dirty.
I saw kiss with Eric Carr at one of his last shows at alpine valley, hot in the shade tour .
What a phenomenal drummer, his death unfortunately gets overshadowed by Freddie Mercurys death on the same day however I wish both were still here
hes such a sincere man and loved by so many , i never listen to a second gossip i dont believe what people say about him , hes a great father and a faithful husband
Gene is a gentleman above the level of being a great friend and human to his family and friends
R.i.p Eric you'll always be missed
Gene seemed genuinely affected by Eric's passing and I believe it to be true. God rest and thanks Gene for sharing this.
+theshadowboxer Eric was like a brother to Gene.
This is a nice side of Gene Simmons, people who hate him should watch this video.
What a nice thing of Gene to share this story! God bless you Eric
Very nice tribute to Eric, Mr. Gene Simmons.
Best years of KISS Eric was fenomenal on drums, one of the world's best.
Gene is a great man.
Eric Carr is good drumman
+JenonCz Let'sPlays was...
Eric Carr was the best drummer Kiss had, in my opinion.
My subwoofer enjoyed playing this.
RIP Eric Carr
He may be saying all the right things, but it wasn't really a classy move on their part to get the new replacement drummer, Eric Singer in the band and do an album while the poor guy was battling cancer. They could've put things on hold and done the Revenge album after. Eric Carr was devastated when they told him they were getting another guy to 'temporarily' replace him. Eric's family's displeasure was evident at the funeral.
Gene doesn't mention how he tried to vacate Eric's company insurance.
Today was the anniversary of Eric's passing.
this is why i love gene
spoken like a true gentleman
So Sad ! I miss EC !
This shows Genes Humanity ~
The best rock drummer since Bonham imo he was great
He died on the same day as Freddie Mercury, November 24 1991, I think they made a superband at heaven.
2:00 he said paul n him knew he wasnt going to make it but paul mention that he didnt think he was going to make it. He never thought he wasnt going to passed.
Hear hear Gene, RIP Eric
Thanks for sharing. Eric is missed...
So tell me Gene why didn't you or Paul appear in Eric's video Tale Of The Fox?
I read he was also bald from chemo and wore a wig in that video. Fought like a champion right to the end.
I seen Kiss 4 times in concert... 3 times wit 80’s wit Carr n Kulick.. Once in 90’s wit Ace n Peter..
Oooooooookay....SOOOO, Gene has a few issues........he also loved Eric Carr
Do you have a video of the whole Q&A? My iphone ran out of memory and there's a part of the video that would mean the world to me to get a hold of.
Fuck That, Yo! well you know what the entertainment worship has gotten to far so I think it's for the better
Fuck That, Yo!
I never gave Metallicas Black Album the nod...i gave AC/DC Back in Black the nod.
Gene missing the point about God. Good people die young all the time. You were blessed to know him. I got to meet him a year before he died. Got to talk to him for five minutes. He was kind and humble. I feel blessed for that meeting
Gene is so likeable.
This was great!!!
Gene is always kinder when Paul isn't around
You're a good bloke Gene.
he is a terrible person who is not telling you the truth .
Thanks for posting this. RIP Eric Carr.
"
only the good die young"
I love how he thinks Eric's death was a punishment.
lol...
I met Gene about 4 years ago and he was very ignorant and since then I've had very little respect for him, but this video has restored some of my respect for him.
He was probably having a bad day. My dad grew up good friends with him and I love hearing the stories about kiss.
Why did he have to die!
I hate cancer it kills so many people
I would really like to stop it
Very nice, Gene.
Sad the first half of the video but it finished the second half very cool and rather humorous
