    FIRST two days of deer season went pretty well brother shot his biggest buck of his life.
    Mountain buck estimated to be 200lbs. I missed an nice 8pt and my buddy got an 8pt. so overall very cool two days. Not lots of buck but state game land hunting is tough. so we are very thankful.
    --The Buck I missed was at 265 yrds however I thought it was close so just aimed accordingly thank goodness he walked away. But Maybe we will get him next time.

    Always, always follow the deer at least 100 yards to check for blood. I've made several kill shots where they didn't bleed for 30 to 70 yards. Deer run fast after the shot, they can cover a lot of ground before you find your first blood. You're young and will learn from experience but please make that a #1 rule after the shot, the animal deserves nothing less! Good luck in your future hunts buddy!

      @@milboltnut i aint the worlds best shot but i’m a firm believer in caliber choice. hunted forever with a remington 7400 in .270 and had to track multiple deer, most good clean shots. bought a 6.5 creedmoor last year and shooting some generic 140 grain poly tip ammo from my local gun store. out of the 3 deer i took down last year only had one make it further than a few yards. love the 6.5 creedmoor!

      @@TristanAD_ 270 is more than enough for deer . Energy listed on ballistic charts is greater than 6.5. I’m sure bullet choice in the 270 had something to do with it. I’ve taken numerous deer with 270 in my 30 years of hunting and ballistic tip 270 loads drop them within sight 95% of the time and the internal damage is catastrophic

    Idk man....saw two deer in the morning hunt but no video and then took a shot with no video and didn’t even take the time to look for the deer...and that was an absurd amount of hair lol usually it’s a pinch of hair if you grazed it, not two handfuls! 😂
    Needless to say I don’t believe your story...nice buck for your brother though

    • @timothyreavis5475
      @timothyreavis5475 5 років тому +2

      James Ward Typically when there is a lot of hair it means you just grazed them. A solid hit does cut some hair going in but not that much. Definitely grazed him.

    • @redforbes
      @redforbes 5 років тому

      I killed a nice buck on 2 weeks ago and there was a pile of hair on the ground where I shot him. Thought I grazed him but looked for blood. Didn't find blood for about 70 yards or so and it was very small droplets, looked further found better blood. After a very very long found him dead, never assume a pile of hair and no blood is just a grazing shot. He even had thw benefit of snow to aid in his tracking.

    • @timothyreavis5475
      @timothyreavis5475 5 років тому

      redforbes Your absolutely right. I would never assume that a lot of hair meant a bad shot. I’ve followed specks of blood for hundreds of yards on a hit I was 99% sure wasn’t leathal. Always have to make every effort to recover the deer. Just saying typically a huge amount of hair doesn’t equal a dead dear

    When you showed your 30/30 you had the sling under the lever. I assume this was to keep it up and out of the way. Under that lever is a button that the lever has to depress to be able to fire the rifle. It's like a safety. With that sling keeping the lever from compressing the safety you never would've been able to shoot. Good thing nothing showed while your sling was there!

      @@ScrubLordCasual The doe I shot this year had the same white fur and didn't bleed until around 35-40 yards into the woods where it fell. Was a good lung shot and fur from behind the lower shoulder. White fur is not always belly and not always a miss without blood. There was snow on the ground. The tracks should have been plenty fresh enough to see and follow and ensure that it wasn't hit.

I don’t care about killing always. But doing what I did here. I ended up seeing twice the amount of deer then 20 of the other cabin guys at my camp that sat the whole day!!!
