I’m leaving a church currently because of many different issues and I only just realised that this is one of them. The pastor keeps going on about “spiritual formation” and giving us small group homework but I just find it so boring. My husband and I have been spiritually starving at that church because they don’t teach the word.
My so called Christian university introduced the pagan prayer practice of Contemplative Prayer to me through a Spiritual Formation course. The goal was to shipwreck the faith of the participants. The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of Truth. I thank God for the rescue. If one engages in pagan prayer practices they get what pagans get. Pagans worship demons. It was a 1 Timothy 4:1 situation.

If you have read any of Dallas Willard's books you know that his use of the term spiritual formation has nothing to do with the "emptying the mind" techniques. He is one of the most Christ-centered and Bible- centered teachers the church has.

Thank you so much for this teaching. Sadly our Church has been heavily influenced and brainwashed by Richard Rohr and his rubbish. The latest problem in our Church is Labyrinth walking. End times are upon us. Thank you for your common sense Biblical approach. Shalom

Many deceptive teachings use the scriptures (even Satan did) and many use the name of Jesus, but when you ask for the Holy Spirit to help you discern you will find it is “another” Jesus and not The Lord Jesus Christ.

@@osawerepatrick921 Well, I have read Willard's work and many other contemplatives, as well as studied the origins of this pagan prayer practice and it is deeply demonic. Read 2 Corinthians 11:13-15 and 1 Timothy 4:1 ask God to help you understand these Scriptures and how they apply to contemplative prayer and contemplatives.

There is a lack of understanding on Dallas Willard's teachings. Meditation has been part of the life of all spirituality.
Your ignorance is appalling
Strange the N T has no teaching on such a practice. Trace it tight back and you will end up with Hindu and 😅Buddha yeachings
Thank you so much for this teaching.

Spiritual formation is the dangerous thing.
Because it is so near the truth the deception is very strong
