According to Travel and Leisure magazine, the best city in the world right now you could visit is San Miguel de Allende in Mexico, followed by Charleston in the USA, followed by Chiang Mai in Thailand. These three places, however, don’t even get on the top 20 places to actually live, in this year’s Quality of Living Index, a yearly list compiled by HR firm, Mercer. Apparently, if you want to live the good life, you should move to Vienna, Austria, Zurich, Switzerland, or Auckland, New Zealand. The top twenty list doesn’t include any cities from the UK or the USA, two countries that have arguably been the two heavyweights in the last century regarding power and wealth. These two countries, however, contain cities that attract millions of overseas visitors every year. Today we are going to compare them, in this episode of the Infographics Show, New York City vs London.

I’ve lived in London for around 10 years now, housing is very very expensive. However, London is beautiful.
Wow beautiful
I live in the U.S.
@@jamhuman2499 the is a problem in all country ,i live in Sheffield and i same thing here..sad
Sanity So is NYC!
London and NYC are very expensive. Back in the 80s, early 90s, NYC was cheap, but not anymore.
Spent a week and a half in New York, and five days in London last month. I prefer London. The NY subway has some catching up to do.
Theron Kolokwe I know. Rats are everywhere.
Yeah London Underground is way better
You should see some of the new stations, Fulton Center, there's many more stations than the underground, so were slowly renovating them although at a slow pace 😭but seriously, some of these new stations, make london underground need to catch up! Fare is MUCH cheaper, and free wifi, no matter carrier or plan you have! But ofc, overall london underground is MUCH cleaner.
@@FATHOLLYWOODB123 NY Subway has many more stations than London Underground, and that's why it's cheaper and slower, while London Underground doesn't have redundant stops and has ideal distance between stations and also covers the rest of the space with either London Overground, National Rail, London Tramlink or London Buses.
For example, in New York Subway, a normal metro journey between Broadway Junction and Spring Street would take 33 minutes (15 stops in between), and walking the way would take 123 minutes, which means metro is approximately 4x faster than walking. However, a similar distance in London, between Tooting Broadway and London Bridge would take 20 minutes (11 stops in between) instead, in an almost same time taken to walking (126 mins), meaning its over 6x faster.
London Underground is much cleaner, safer, and has better staff willing to help people getting around. However like everything in London, minus Friday & Saturday nights, the Underground starts closing super early, around 12am-12:30am it all starts closing down. Unlike NYC that the subway is 24/7. Also Undergound is way more expensive then the NYC subway.
I've been to both and as an biased tourist from Asia, I have to say I like London better because of its accessibility to many different kinds places. You can go from a suburban neighbourhood to a crowded city centre filled with life to a big open park and a historical landmark within an hour
Same with New York.
You can do the same in NY
Podrick Payne but it's more expensive and takes longer
The sun is a deadly lazer
But London is more spread out. :?

London is for me the number one city to visit. Being from Copenhagen, London is only a 90 minutes flight away, and it’s airfare is cheap too. Staying there can be expensive, but if you like me don’t stay in your hotel that much and don’t require luxury, cheap decent centrally situated accommodation is available. From time to time I do stay at my uncle’s family (he’s from Tottenham) in Blackheath (approx 30 minutes from central London). I been to London 25+ times and I will keep on coming, as London has new things to experience!
To visit London, to live NYC
I love London but New York would be nicer to visit but the best city to visit is Tokyo
Wow you're easily pleased, London is a dump, try Manchester, cheaper, much more relaxed, much nicer people, better public transport, and cheaper in general, ive been to both i and im from neither, i can honestly say, how amazing Manchester after visiting both, Manchester completely destroys London

I'm from NY but I have lived in London for years now. Both cities are well connected and similar in terms of job opportunities/living standards, but they are very different in terms of culture/city layout. So any comparison would be mainly on a personal basis...(I love both cities but will probably return to NY eventually!) These comparisons done on numbers don't really mean much.

I'm a Jamaican living in new york at the moment but imma like this
I live in London and have visited America multiple times including spending a month in New York. New York definitely has that filmic charm, but London is far more varied, open and interesting with a richer history - which is why I prefer it. In fact, I prefer European cities to American cities generally, because they're just older and more interesting. Where America excels is its natural wonders, which are truly spectactular. The people of America are generally very hospitable and driving around the country is pure magic.

London 💙
I'm always struck by how much good will there is between the two cities. Londoners tend to really like New York when we visit, and vice versa. Culture shock is minimal, and the (many) differences tend to thrill and delight rather than overwhelming or confusing. I think it must be harder for people from smaller, friendlier parts of the same country to adjust to the Big City than it is for someone from one Big City to adjust to the other.
They're both places I never tire of.
London = hot summers (some years can be inconsistent). Very humid hot / occasionally very hot heatwaves / droughts fairly common for London. London still has higher humidity than New York, so the temperatures feel hotter in London. London can be beautifully sunny at times during any season, although also unpredictable on occasions. Spring & autumn / fall can be hot some years.
London has generally much warmer winters than New York. London has less than half the rainfall of New York in an average year. Snow is rare in London. New York is guaranteed heavy snowfall. It can even snow up to late spring in New York. Blizzards, freezing rain storms in New York's winters or early spring / late fall still likely.
Weather in a short period of time is not the same as longer term climate. London is expected to eventually have a similar climate as Barcelona. Overall, London still has an arguably better climate than New York & especially so going forward.
I visited london, it was amezing its a great city. I would love to go there more times

As a New Yorker living in London, I'd say that even after the novelty wears off, the politeness in England is rather nice. New Yorkers don't have time for that as we're more direct and in my opinion, honest. As someone who's used to being told to move when I'm stepping on someone's foot, it's a bit daunting to always pick up on the subtlety here as Brits are big on that. In both places I feel that I'm on my own in terms of outside interaction, but 9 times out of 10, starting a conversation with with a random stranger in either place has proved to be a positive experiences as people, when approached with genuine interest, are open to share at least a little about themselves. The food in London has been "meh" when compared to New York. Sure, there are some nice places here in London, but in my opinion, not as many nice, cheap ones as New York. If I could combine the two, I surely would. I'm in London, but my heart will always belong to the 93m green woman holding a torch. I miss my lady...

You said "the city of London" but started describing the history of London. London and the city of London are different (and have a complicated relationship)
Gideon Bellamy yes indeed
Very true, City of London is the heart of London. Whereas London is the whole city. There is also inner London, suburbs and outskirts. Inner London is a 5 mile radius from central London. Suburbs is 6-18 mile radius of central London. And the outskirts is everywhere else of London. London ends at Watford junction in the north and Morden in the south.
Abdullah Ali sorry but that's not true, you're just basing that off the tube map. Watford isn't in London, it's in Hertfordshire, and south London extends much further south than just Morden, in fact there's a whole another borough directly south of Morden called Sutton, then there's Croydon, Kingston etc. The city limits are defined by the 32 boroughs

US vs North Korea
HarshIT Dayal they already did that
It would be close
Jude Duven no
America has thousands upon thousands of nukes, they could run North Korea back into the fucking ocean if they wanted. They made most of their ICBM's during the Cold War same with Russia, except Russia doesn't have the same GDP or population, Russia literally has under HALF of the population of the United States so I mean.
The USA have lots of weapons but they are Shit at war.
London is getting better all the time. There is so much development going on there. New skyscrapers going up constantly, redevelopment of the kings Cross, Wembley, Nine Elms, Stratford, Elephant and Castle and Grenwich areas. Tottenham Hotspur have just had a state of the art stadium built, which will also host NFL (American Football). Crossrail, a major new underground line, is also almost complete and will make travelling around London even easier and less congested.
BORIS JEFFERSON Taking development into account, New York blows London out of the water, with 8 skyscrapers under construction that are super tall status. Also parts of queens and Brooklyn are being highly redeveloped.
❤❤❤glad to be British
Đ.G. BLACKS you need to get out more, I am going to New York again on 17th November this year, London is better

London is my city

New York is mine
Are you the mayor of London?
*muslims:* not anymore
I've visited both cities and I think it depends on how much you like crowds. There are much bigger crowds in New York than in London. London also has more of its own history as It's the residence of the British royal family.
Maybe European cities are more visited by international visitors because there are a lot of countries close by and if a European wanted to go to New York they have to buy plane tickets
Gabe London's Heathrow Airport is the third busiest in the world - people fly to London.
Gabe I think you have your facts wrong. England is an island and unless you take the train from France most people are going to fly.
Lots of people drive - I see lots of foreign number plates from Europe
Not to mention how many Americans from places like California (like myself) will travel to New York for a destination vacation however they won't count as international visitors
Also in Europe we have the Schengen and opens borders which means no visas if you already live in the Schengen. Very cheap to visit other countries
There’s plenty of all night night clubs in London!
@r sit's never on time, it's just really loud, it's complicated and is so bad!
Nothing compares to New York. Different people. Different backgrounds. Different religions. Different languages. It’s amazing. The best places to eat are there too. You can taste food from 5 different countries in one street.
'nothing compares to new york' - you clearly haven't travelled then.
London has exactly this too. Different people. Different backgrounds. Different religions. Different languages. It’s amazing. The best places to eat are there too. You can taste food from 5 different countries in one street.

@@netswrld I wouldn't say alot, its very similar in terms of development. And well, London is pretty much the financial capital of europe, so not too much less rich. Overall, its quite close

London is my country.
England is my city
Yo know he British
I live in London and it seems pretty much spot on, though one thing I love about London is the history of events and landmarks here, it seems wherever I go I just stumble across some kind of National Monument or historically important place.
Well I have lived in London for all of my life and I must say... every fact about London was spot on! Well done!
I love that some streets in London still look from the old days with old buildings all over the place apart from the modern buildings and car
I've never been to London but I think I might enjoy it more than New York.
I think I might enjoy it less. NYC is pretty underrated in a lot of senses.

Me living in New York City: ITS FROM THE UK??!?
Yeah Ik but the name New York was form the uk
It’s okay
The thing you have to remember about London is it's hundreds of year older than American cities, it was designed when the only transport was a horse , so roads & buildings are all over the place, it slowly spread out from the centre but not in any set pattern like NYC for example, that's why it can be confusing to tourists..
NYC is no slouch regarding history and landmarks though, especially among non-Eurasian cities. It tends to be more hidden and you need to read some books to appreciate its history. I recommend the AIA Guide to New York City for a detailed guide for the various important buildings throughout the city, as well as some detailed descriptions that provide some historical context. To someone from say Las Vegas or Orlando, NYC feels "old world" in comparison. 2024 will mark four centuries since the first European settlers came to found a tiny village that was not even half the size of the old City of London.
@@pannoni8449 Four centuries is baby years however. There are plenty of older and more impressive buildings in the the city of London than basically the entire USA, seeing as the country in its modern form barely existed a few hundred years ago. New York is old times for people who live in places like LA sure… but that means literally nothing to anyone outside of the USA.
Another thing is that america is still quite segregated, meanwhile england is very mixed and diverse
I wouldn't say segregated. It's cause the early migrants who formed their own distinct communities and want to preserve it. That is what makes New York New York.
'bilionars' lol
I knew London was an important city but bigger that new-york?! Never new this interesting video!
Yes, I thought that was common knowledge.
The New York metro area includes many other cities and regions such as New Jersey and Conneticut. That is not the city boundry. It would be like London including Brighton and Southampton in its figures. New York city is actually quite compact. London is a bigger city proper. It is much bigger in terms of square miles too. I used to live in Queens and I also lived in Lewisham London for a period. London was the much larger of the two in terms of area. New York builds up whereas London built outwards. Both cities have a population of around 9 million.
Gery A COMPLETELY WRONG m8
London as a city population is about 11.9 million and NYC is about 8.7 million. London is a lot bigger and better. There are 32 boroughs in London each one are bigger than some cities by them self
Gery A the tri-State isnot New York City, the city is 5 boroughs with Bronx/manhattan/Staten Island/ Brooklyn/queens and is smaller, London is twice as big
Yeah, I didn't know that either.
I'm from Birmingham in England but I also gone to London it's so nice
What do you think about the United States?
