Awesome interview. Only thing I wish they would have touched on is the other Black gymnasts who paved the way for them through the previous decades since the 80s ... Dianne Durham, Betty Okino, Dominique Dawes, Tasha Schwikert, Gabby Douglass. Being the ONLY Black gymnast on a team is a very different experience, and it paved the way to make it possible for more than one or two.

Congratulations ladies , I am a big fan of gymnastics and I love watching Jordan because she was 3 hours and 17 minutes from were I live. But I love watching all of team USA
It's quite possible to have 4 of the 5 members of the Olympic team being women of color. Right now, Shi, Jordan, and Suni will be on the team unless something changes. Then at least one of Gabby/Simone will be on the team. Simone has made it clear she hasn't retired, and Gabby is already back in the gym training. And, if Tokyo taught us anything, Team USA needs Jade's floor and vault scores. I have to admit that I'm giddy over the possibly of having Gabby, Shilese, and Suni bars rotation in Paris for Team USA.
And to think the video I saw before this one was a video of a young black gymnast being ignored and refused a medal that she had earned at a medal ceremony. What a strange dichotomy.
Total gymnast-wanna-be is thrilled to see 3 Black women on the podium! There was a time when this might not have even been possible. They've had the benefit of trailblazers' exposure and wisdom AND they're paying it forward with this interview.
As a Black woman I love seeing the sport becoming more diverse. Not just here in the states, but internationally as well. It is still bittersweet to me because while my granddaughter can see all these girls out there who look like her, it's still not a very realistic goal due to the wealth gap and income disparities that affect many families of color. Gymnastics is a VERY expensive sport. One that is out of reach for so many families. My daughter was not a gymnast growing up, but she was a competitive cheerleader. And I regularly worked 60 hour weeks in order to pay for it.
I love them ! An not to take anything away from them but the title is black excellence and I know 2 of the 3 women are biracial / mixed however you prefer to describe it .
