In this video, we'll show you how to install the Lectron carb on your dirt bike. While this application is a KTM 300, the basic principles will apply generally to most other applications.

Your videos are always so well produced, good audio, lighting, camera in the right spot. Too many how-to vids out there with terrible presentation which really hurts the message. Keep em coming!
+Zedro nurinburg Thanks Zedro!
We put one in an eric gorr cr134, and that thing was the most crisp 125 we have ever built. Will highly recommend!
+Gunnar Kranenburg Sweet, thanks for the feedback.
I've got a 36mm on my 11 Husqvarna WR300. it didn't take much to dial it in and it runs fantastic. It has a smooth linear almost electric motor type feel. I tuned it at 900' elevation and rode in CO at 7,000+' and all I had to do is turn the power jet a 1/4 turn. the only issue I've had, is on two occasions when going through a mud puddle, the throttle stuck wide open. I had to remove the carb an remove the grit that got sucked in. I've never had the issue with a standard carb. Otherwise, it's worth every penny to me.
Nice video! The bike runs crispy critter! My experience was the same with my '18 XC 300 - plug and play. The Lectron is stone simple and works great! Love mine.
FYI on install, KTM made the rear intake boot stiff on the newer bikes. For those you have to remove the silencer and swing up the subframe a bit for clearance as the boot is not really bendable like the older ones.
Lectron sends the carb with a see through hose. I reused my stock black hose as my experience has been that ethanol in our crummy corn gas tends to harden the clear fuel hoses even faster than the rubber ones.
Is that background for real?
Oh man that looks beautiful!
The background is real, we stole it from the Amer-Indians.

@@user-sp8eb6iz7f What are you on about "The Duke"
that view totally distracted me from that off ilde test, damnnnn!!!
Sweet. Picking up my 2019 KTM 300 XC two days ago and ordered the Lectron 38mm Mule H series from Slavens today.
Ha ha! I told you Kyle! Once you go Lectron, to heck with playing with Jets. Have you taken it to altitude yet? That's where it really shines. And, better MPG too! It's like having EFI for a fraction of the cost.
+fz07.org Yes, I have taken it to about 9600 feet and it ran great.
Your little test at the end has pretty much settled my internal debate between a 350xcf or 300xc for a do it all bike. That really shows just how much power and response the two stroke has off idle.
+jridenour31 Yes, the 300 is pretty hard to beat for an "all around" bike.
I hadn't previously heard of this carb, but I'm definitely going to look into it now! Thanks for sharing!
+seth christiansen Yeah, it's a great product and I've now spoken to the owners a few times. Really good guys at Lectron.
+Dirt Bike Channel right on, thanks!
Thanks for the great video, very helpful. I have a six days 300, at 5200 altitude (Denver). I have the same bogging problems and poor jetting that I am done fighting with. I am about to install this on my ride, I hope to get the same results.
+Dudeman 2015 I think you will like it. I'm sure happy with mine.
I work at a KTM dealer and I normally just lossen the subframe and lift the air box off the carb that way, silencer bolts left in loose and I never have any drama caused by the boots. But to each their own, I'm just putting another perspective out there
Love your videos and respect your honest approach. I always get something positive out of your channel and it is greatly appreciated.... I can understand how difficult it is to communicate with a helmet on so I assume that's why you weren't wearing one on the test ride. I personally have two friends that have paid long and sever consequences for "no helmet test rides". I'd love to see you change this in the future.
how does the throttle twist back with the lectron?. i just fitted mine and its only a quarter of a turn now
Thanks for having a decent channel. As has been said, quality footage, audio, angles and focus. You seem to bring a balanced view to things rather than sticking to a particular mindset. That being said, I hate you for this particular video, because now I want to buy one of these more than I already did.
+tek9tim :)
+Dirt Bike Channel Really enjoying your videos. Keep them coming! I'd like to see one on bleeding brakes. Something I believe most of us neglect!
+tdub8baseball That is a pretty good idea.
You guys are top notch.... thanks for all your time and effort you put in. Your passion for the sport shows. I wish I would have stumbled across this review sooner... really going to consider calling Lectron now. My elevations vary enough that this would truly be magic.
+Eric Sundquist Thanks for the support. I do love the sport. This lectron carb is pretty fantastic. I can ride from 3000 feet to 11000 feet without touching a thing. It's the closest thing to EFI on a 2 stroke there is.
I was really set on getting a KTM 350xcf one day but now I'm leaning towards the 300xc. The only thing I really like more about the the 350 over the 300 is that it sounds better to me since I've always been a 4 stroke guy.
I have both of them right now. I always find myself opting for the 2 stroke when I know I'm going to ride tricky single track. Whoops and desert, I opt for the 350.
Thanks for the reply. There's not any good trails in my area so I'll be riding mostly dirt roads, some woods and trails but the only trail near me is pretty flat since it's a snowmobile trail in the winter. If I happened to take it out to a motocross track once in a while I'm thinking the 350 would be a better choice but I really don't have any experience with a 300 2 stroke and any 2 strokes really besides an 85.
Always great videos. I have had a Lectron on my 200 for about a year. I've put about 100 hours on it and wouldn't do anything else. It's a great product. I'm glad they are getting more attention.
+Bryson Stafford Very cool. Thanks for sharing.
Ya I understand it, it's a pain wrenching on bike while riding. Keep up the good work with a review on this carb after a ride. Try to get your hands on a 250 free ride and review it. Looking at replacing my 300 with one in the near future.
+Ken Windatt Let us know what you think about the freeride when you get one.
Thanks for he review of the carb, I think I'm going to go that way on my 300 days, I hate tuning for the summer and the winter and when I go out of state to ride.
+Jay Rife This should take all the pain out things once you get it installed.
MOG; May 12, 2018, Thumper: KTM 150 STIC, page 6: “.....top end goes into this insane scary feeling rev that builds power till you shut off, I don't know how high it can rev but it doesn't really flatten…..” “So I have had a super productive day, got the bike running so strong it's almost scary. For comparison my friend has an 18 SX250 with a vf4 and an FMF 2.1 silencer, he’s running the green PV spring. So the first session was the usual fast but didn't feel like the throttle is connected to the rear wheel at all, the power would come in uneven. Finally, I fitted my handmade tailpipe, I had a theory the STIC doesn't like back pressure, all shorties have small outlets like 22.5mm, and STD is 25.5 but long. So with the cut-down silencer and no other changes, I started it up, suddenly the engine barked by blipping the throttle, never had it do that, I was hopeful. On the track the engine came to life, the power was almost instant and way stronger on pickup, like 50% more, I asked my friend to ride it to see his opinion, he says the same, instant crazy power, it is honestly almost too much , the bottom and mid are just not like anything I have ever ridden, then the top goes into this insane scary feeling rev that builds power till you shut off , I don't know how high it can rev but it doesn't really flatten , I'm worried it might be lean but the plug had a bit of darkness to it, no detonation. I rode the 250sx and it felt powerful but less aggressive, it felt slower in some ways but has that big hp at low revs. I can't imagine a more powerful 150 and would not really want one, its3kg lighter than a YZ125 and most have around 10hp more at peak and about 15 hp more on part throttle.”

I love the Lectron on my 2013 Husky WR125.
Looking forward to get one of these for my 2017 300 XC-W, I'm in Utah also. Excellent install guide.
Run one on.my 300. I didnt bother fighting with it or chance goobering the rubber boots on install. Pull the bottom subframe bolts and rotate the subframe up next time. Takes 2 minutes, no fighting, plenty of room.
Did you look into the ADP Smart Carb before committing to this carb? The ADP carb is billet or cast, also never needs jetting and has NO float bowl. You should do a comparison on both carbs, that would be awesome. ADP claims your MPG will greatly increase as well.
+Chad Cooper Didn't know you were so in love over a carb. My apologies over APT, error. My reference was to the float which has no external lines, we ALL know it has a float, but i was exclusively referring to NO overflow lines. They have had issues over delayed delivery dates, however people have raved over the product once they actually get it delivered and put it to use. So for you to promote one product over another, without EVER actually using the product your self is just naive. It would be great if someone actually had both carbs and put them on a dyno and finally did head to head comparison.
@@HardEnduro8 I'm from China. My English is poor.I have both of them for my 2016 TE250, SMART > LECTRON, Same metering rod design,It was invented by the same man William in 1969, In addition to the same advantages, SMART elevation span is 0 to 22,000 feet, NO POWER JET, Outside adjustment function, Does not leak when tilted, Better processing technology and materials than lectron! Lower price than lectron!
In terms of performance, the two products are similar.
Overall, SMART does better!
That view alone is a million dollars. Looks unreal
An awesome addition to any bike. I'd like to see if one is available for my RM250. Anything to make that bike a little more modern would be nice.
+Gnarlington I'm sure they have a carb for it. They'd just need to know how many mm your current carb is and then can match something up for it.
I'll have to look into it. Can't take the motocross out of the RM250, but you sure can make it a little more tame!
Keihin with JD kit works great as well. 35mpg or better and is very crisp
im getting my lectron next week i cant wait! my yz 250 wont go on half-throttle, i hope this can fix it.
Does it work well?
@@xorolif yes it worked well
@@simonekjachnik6634 do you think is worth the money it cost? Because i wanted to buy one for a tm 300 2stroke motard (2007) and i don't know if the performance and the consumption are the same with the original 38mm
@@xorolif well you dont have to jet it or do anything with it, so i would say yes it is worth it. the bike is running better and drinks less gas. my bike started to ping with this carburettor, but i think the squish wasnt right
I am really looking forward to your opinion on the Lectron. I have been trying to decide whether or not I want to continue with my JD jet kit or not. Problem for me is, my rides vary in elevation quite a bit, especially in some areas. An example would be we start at sea level, and end up at 6000ft. or we actually start at 4,000 feet and end up staying in that area, or climbing even higher to 8,000+
B.C. Canada has such insane elevation changes depending on where you decide to go that day that it makes jetting an absolute nightmare. This carb could be the ticket I suppose. I am not going to a 4 stroke to get FI!! lol
+Matt Agostino In your situation, I'd highly reccomend this carb. They have it jetted for sea level and I took it all the way up to 9600 feet and it ran great.
Protip: undo the top bolt of the subframe & slacken the 2 bottom ones to give yourself more room when fitting a carb
+jonno85uk Thanks for the tip!
I had never heard of these carbs until I saw your vids on them. Ordered a Lectron for my beta yesterday and can't wait to be done with jetting! I wonder why the bike manufacturers don't work with Lectron to build their bikes with Lectron instead of the mikuni and Keihin carbs. Other than maybe a very slight price increase I can't think of any downside. Can anyone else think of any advantage to the regular jetted carbs?
It looks like you have super imposed the houses etc over the backdrop/view lol!! what a place, great vid!
+Cogerino86 Those are real houses :)
Do you think this design will ever come standard on newer bikes? I like simplicity so anything that makes workflow easier/simpler I find value.
Awesome info !! I really want to try a Lectron on my CR 500 not sure if 38 mm or a 40mm would be best .. it would be great for ice racing in New England I would hope !! thanks again very informative ..OK thanks again . do you still run the lectron on the 300 ?? price with the cable was ????
Kyle, have you checked your boot since putting on the Lectron, I noticed mine was cracking from the stress of it being compressed. I have a new boot coming and am going to trim this one.
I wish this was the impressions I got with my lectron, no plug and play here. Been a pain in the ass trying to adjust so it has no bottom bog. My stock carb ran better at first start up....
Will someone please ease my mind and do a Lectron v Smartcarb review
Lectron has been around since 1979, i had flat slide on my yz 465 in 1980, very good carb!
since 1973
Kyle, 2strokes,especially 300s, are AWESOME ! but..... please tell me when they begin rolling out from the factorys with fuel injection ! i've had it with carbs :(
+eyalcr500 This Lectron carb would solve your issue without the extra weight and cost of fuel injection.
+Dirt Bike Channel sorry Kyle.... i've had only good experience with Fi systems, i don't care about the "cost & weight" of it, i don't want to keep on with carbs, had them for 20 years, and good riddance ! AND from what we saw on you tube, few examples of big bore 2strokes felt just great when there was an Fi system installed to them ! i have Fi bikes for 6 years already,it's GREAT and there aren't any troubles with it... so,please, give us Fi2strokes... prefferably 500s :) :) :) or 300s for enduro
Would this help in cold weather changes. I live in minnesota and it gets cold in winter and i dont want to have to rejet every winter and spring. If it doesnt work in cold i will get a 4t but really leanin toward the 2t just more fun to me
Great video , been watching your video for the past 3 y and I finally bought a 18 300 Xc , now with lectron , witch metering.rod gave you best result ?
Well done, very chuffed in your review. Always a pleasure to watch and learn. Just are you.
+Royce Nestor Thanks Royce.
That's simple and effective. Very impressive.
+knightlike101 I'm certainly impressed and I'll talk more about it when I'm able to do the full review on it.
Had to cut the airbox boot on my '16 300xcw (per Lectron), and factory routing on my cable is through the cylinder head brace. Needed one turn in on the idle screw for bike to start, then it was so rich it was billowing smoke. After 5 minutes of warm up/idle adjust, the fuel level rose, filled the entire float bowl and started it puking gas all over the floor. Nothing on this issue in their tuning guide. Had to leave after hours message..hope carb is OK, since the stock carb will no longer fit with the boot shortened.
+Older&Wiser Got a call back from Lectron when they opened Monday. Very Helpful and professional. I'm thinking once I get this this carb dialed, I'll be happy glad I bought it.
did you get it to work?
I need to get the bike off-road, which hasn't happened with the rains in SE Texas, but it seems close riding gently on the pavement. I may yet have some fine tuning, but the overflow issue seems to have been fixed by squirting some WD40 into the gas inlet (per Lectron). The second "rib" on the air box outlet needed to be shaved off the outside circumference to allow good purchase for the clamp.
You guys need to put more videos
dang! This thing seems awesome!! Look forward to the review and thanks for doing these videos in the first place
+Brad Charles You are welcome.
How much of a difference did it make on ur buddies CR250? i have a CR125 I’m contemplating buying one
slick upgrade my friend! Good vid for a two stroke video! na seriously spot on!
+Anthony Hendley Yes, this carb is really good for the guy who doesn't like tuning carbs. It just runs.
Is it necessary to use the throttle assembly that comes with the lectron carb or can you use the stock one that comes on the bike? Thanks
Did you find the Lectron a little soft in the low end? I have one on a 17' 300 XCW and can't decide if I want to keep it or go back to the stock Mikuni. I thought about getting the S3 head to go along with it thinking it might help with the low end. Wondering what you think of the combination. Thanks
Hi Carl! Awesome Channel and I have never missed a single episode.
Would you show us how to adjust the Power Jet on the lectron? Thank you!
+Nik Ang Thanks for the support. I honestly haven't needed to change it. It's large screw on the top of the carb that would be easy to change if that was needed. Like I said though, I haven't needed to and Lectron said it's rare that anyone has to play with it.
Just installed a lectron carb on my ‘03 cr250r. Not sure what’s wrong but the idle is ALL over the place. Nothing about it sounds normal. I give it gas and it bogs. Float bowl looks filled to the top and fuel doesn’t even look like it’s filling the fuel line. Followed the instructions. Free place is adjusted right. Haven’t touched the rod or pilot screw yet because it’s supposed to be pre-set. Hoping I get this figured out :(
Alright so I have a 2012 250sx and I installed my lectron today and the fuel level was just like yours in this video. I didn't mess with it but just took it out for a test ride, I tried the low speed full throttle whacks like you did in this video and it bogged and the front wheel barely comes off the ground if at all. Is the float level being off causing this or am I running my bike to rich. I'm running 32:1 fully synthetic
I second zedro's comment about your production. If you dont mind me asking, what exactly do you do for a living?
+KnockEM BlaKjaK Sales for an IT company.
Hello, when do you think you will finish your full review? I'm thinking of getting one and I eager to see your full review. I want to know how it reacts to altitude and temperature changes.
+Ricardo Mendoza It's still a way's out, but I'm all thumbs up on the carb so far. I've pretty much forgotten its on the bike. Each time out, it runs great, no matter the temperature or altitude.
+Dirt Bike Channel cool thanks for the reply. I will wait it out.
I've been running these carbs since the early 80's on my RD'S and RZ. my 79' RD Datona has then on now. there great carbs but expensive. My uneducated opinion is the stock carbs tuned right will give you almost or about 90 percent of what those will plus you still have to tune them also. I did notice the improvement but for my mid pack novice skills it was more gee wiz. love your chanel. Got any tip or products for the 690.
+motorcycleguy73 Thanks for the comment. I don't have any experience on the 690s.
Awesome. If it hesitates when you slam on the gas at low rpm does that mean too lean?
+oHerroPrease Much of the time, yes. It's a bogging that you have to watch out for.
If you dont mind me asking, where do you live? That has to be the most beautiful view I've ever seen,
utah
Just tried to install my new Lectron on my 2009 200 XC but the carb is bigger and the boot folds over :-( I'm dying to try it, but now it looks like I've gotta do some shadetree fabricating and cutting. Heard of this problem?
Are you in Utah? I am and if so I really wanna know where the razorback trail is?! Thanks in advance(:
Hi, just saw your video. Would the Lectron work with a KTM 4 stroke 450
I'm more impressed by the view down you street - wow
where do you live?
mountains in the background looks nice :D
What is the diameter measurement? 36 or 38? And how is the fuel consumption?
Hi, i live in Adelaide south Australia have a ktm300exc 2016. is it ok to remove the thermostat and replace it with silicone hose's
Great vid....nice graphics on the bike too !
Hey, i don't know a lot about 2 strokes but i was just wondering if the newer ones have power bands like the old ones did?
Also very nice video!
+Rupert Mundy Every motor has a power band. 4 strokes and 2 strokes alike. Some are simply more noticeable than others.
Oh okay you learn something new every day. Thanks very much

+1mrgasgas1 Very cool. Lectron is a great carb.
Has anyone dynoed their 2014-2016 EXC/XCW KTMs with this 36mm or 38mm installed? Which one do you guys recommend? I'm planning on buying the 36 or 38mm for my upcoming 2016 300 EXC and i am also planning on buying the S3 head and FMF Gold Series Fatty pipe with an Akrapovic 2 stroke silencer and VForce 4 for the carb
hey man, thanks for the helpful videos and responding to comments, everyone appreciates it greatly.
+Foster Rich You are welcome. I don't get to all the comments, but I make an effort for sure.
Dyno results? What if you go from oil ratio of 60:1 to 32:1, what does the carb do?
My dt was "bogging". Thanks mate, now i know its carborator 😊
+Adam Hraško Yeah, that would be a good thing to check out. Get a Lectron Carb and your issue should be solved!
Dirt Bike Channel man, i dont even have money for a new tyres 😂 ... Life of a student
+Dirt Bike Channel were u wheeling on purpose or ur bike has that much power? ;)
+Ludicrous Not trying to wheelie. Just seeing if it would bog or not.
+Adam Hraško I've certainly been there!
I've read elsewhere that the carb is a bit longer than the oem Keihin and can compress the airbox boot, inducing a fold that might restrict the air flow. Some guys end up trimming a bit off the carb end of the boot to avoid problems. Just wondering what your observations were on this issue.
+Stepansy I didn't have that issue on my application.
+Dirt Bike Channel Maybe it's more of an XC issue. I notice that the parts fiche shows a different part number for the XC airbox boot connection than for the XC-W. Perhaps there is a slight model difference and the fit is better on XC-Ws.
+Stepansy My application is on a 2015 300 XC. I don't own the XC-W anymore.
I haven't looked yet so I'll just ask if anyone knows off the top; does lectron have an application for a 2011 ktm 300xc?
Great vid, by the way.
+MuTe Yes, the 300 motor hasn't changed much in last half dozen years. Give them a call and the should be able to set you up.
awesome...on it. Thanks for the reply.
Have you heard of Chinese dirt bike name Motorhead CRF 250 of Fuego Company? Can i install lectron carburetor on it?
Kyle, I installed the HV Lectron this weekend, and I am still having the same issue. The bike is an ‘18 250 XC-W, and I have been trying to get the bike to run clean throughout the RPM range. Between 0 to just over 1/8th the bike still burbles and still blows a ton of smoke. I’m running everything as per the manual, and can’t figure out the bottom end “burble” and the smoke. Before the Lectron, I ran the Mikuni with the JD kit (it ran OK, but still had the “burble”). New plug, new gas at 60:1, clean filter... I can’t figure it out, any suggestions, hints? I’m going nuts with this, help. BTW, I appreciate and use the vids you post, great job.
You didn't mention that you checked your floats, check that the height is correct, as well spark gap and type.
How did you get the stock carb off do you have to remove the sub frame? I cant get it off the boots

Thanks for the great video. Did you go with the 36 or a 38 on the Lectron?
+Paul Brock This one is a 36 mm.
Hi, as usual nice informative video...By the way great landscapes on the horizont. What city you live in?
Cheers from Romania
+Drumetii pe V-strom I am in Utah in the U.S.
How would you say the bike does on increase in fuel economy with the Lectron Carb?
Would you definitely do this to the 17 300 XC-W?
Wow. This view :O Where is this place? I have to know.
"about the same size"
can you please put them both flat to see if indeed the lectron is longer? is so, by how much?
Did you look into the SmartCarb? I'd like to buy either the Lectron or SC, I just don't know which.
+modestmoose83 I haven't tried the smartcarb. I really lke the Lectron though.
hey, do you think ist worth to upgrade a 125ccm with a lectron? Aprilia mx 125 enginge roatx 122
Do you still only use the Lectron on your 300 XC? Has it ever caused the engine to run lean, or caused any problems? Thank you!
Still using Lectron. No issues at at all.
I know you can't say exactly where you live, but what state are you in? It's beautiful!
+Rob Messenger All of this stuff is filmed in Utah.
Another awesome video thanks Dirt Bike Channel
+grantr426 You will have to look into this product. Thumbs up from me on it.
getting the rubber boot back on was the hardest 😂
that is a nice channel, you live in a beultfull place! hello from Brazil!
+MrAndreppc Thank you!
Great channel. Did it come with a motion pro T3 +4" cable?
+dj0100 It's an extra charge, but I did get it from them.
+Dirt Bike Channel cool thanks
Where do you live Sir? Place looks beautiful.
Any link to those graphics on the bike?
great vid & very cool graphics kit too !
How is it performing so far, and would you recommend this upgraded?
+CrazyIn6thGear Yes, this is a great carb. I recommend it for sure.
If I do get this carb would I still have to change the jets and needles? Or do I just adjust it on the lectron carb?
+josh zub No needles. No Jets. There is a metering rod that you MIGHT have to adjust if you ride above 10K feet most of the time. Other than that, you don't have to touch it once you have it installed.
+Dirt Bike Channel also for the needle would I have to mess with them or do I just adjust the one that is already came with it?
