Dunno if this is quite the same but if you're planning a trip with campfires, say a week or a month even, and you're going to take your own firewood - buy the wood as early as possible and start letting it dry out a bit in your garage or somewhere else inside. Sometimes that bagged up wood at the servo or "dry firewood" from your local guy can still benefit from some time drying out away from the elements
I actually agree with the fire pit! I didn't take one on either of my most recent long trips because I planned around it. But an electric chainsaw is life. The Hema units are rubbish - Garmin Overlander all the way (not sponsored - my wife bought me one for my birthday). Also composting toilets all the way.
Great videos guys have watched since the beginning. "I have a bonus point for you", you mentioned a composting toilet. Sold our cassette after the first time away. We've had a composting toilet (OGO) for about two years now, not traveling full time but go away fairly regularly. No more chasing dump points and saves on water. Don't think I could stand emptying a cassette every time it was full. It really is a game changer. Safe travels, looking forward to the next video. John
Good info guys! Do yourselves a favour, dump the whole cassette toilet in the bin and install a Natureshead composting toilet, trust me it will become your number one must have item!
In a world where good relationships (especially those in the public eye) are harder to come by than ever, you two are a breath of fresh air. Im addicted to watching you grow as individuals and as a couple. My heart is constantly warmed and my spirit akway refreshed! Namaste 🙏
Hey Lil and Jake, absolutely love you guys, working my way through your entire library of videos, starting from the beginning……. Keep up the great work……
Some good tips there guys. I recently did a 2 week trip around Tas and packed the battery operated chainsaw. We didnt even use it. I agree with the paper maps. Its easier to plot where you want to go. Another good episode may be caravanning hacks. Instead of flushing the dunny, we now use a plastic soft drink bottle with holes in the lid and save heaps of water. I am sure you guys would have heaps of tricks like that up your sleeve. We have two cassettes just in case we get caught out in the middle of the night. Cheers from the Eastern Shore!!!
Love the mid week videos. Would love a video on how you guys plan your adventures, best times to go to each region… aka ningaloo, darwin, kimberley’s, cape york. Best tips for booking ahead and finding good free camps.
What a lovely surprise, turn on my ipad and there are you two fabulous humans and of course the amazing Miss Hazel, I'm sure the advice you dished out will be useful for people preparing to go on an adventure similar to your own, you do Tassie proud.🙏❤️💐👏👏
Such a great episode - thank you - has confirmed lots of our own thinking. We are heading to Australia in mid-December to begin a two year lap. We are bringing our Shih Tzu dog with us - so I would love your ideas and perspectives about traveling with a dog/pet.😁🌺🐶
Also, we got a Makita battery chainsaw as its the same brand as the drill and blower so the batteries are interchangeable. Great for firewood as well love a fire.
An air fryer isn't an in thing, it's a revolution. 👍🏻 It's here to stay in the home, and is especially interesting and especially useful in a recreational vehicle setting.
Great Tips Legends, I've worked Driving a Tilt Tray in FNQ and every single traveller carry's way to much shit they think they will use. I'm now in the NT and still seeing setups used that will never see items used. Its simple when Travelling Australia ! ALWAYS USE THE KISS METHOD ! Keep it Simple Stupid ! Because when your travelling Australia, Simplicity is the VERY KEY to enjoying your travels. If you overload your setup , I GUARANTEE YOU WILL NOT USE EVERYTHING ! Simple, I've been there and done it. Its all about enjoying yourselves and not stressing on crap you are carrying and having to move it to get to something you always do Guys. Its SIMPLE. If your Planning a trip , ALWAYS and ALWAYS keep it simple to begin with and work out what you require WHILE on the Road ! Don't buy crap that Salesman in stores SAY you will need. Most of all , enjoy your trip and keep the " KISS" method. You will have a way better Adventure.
With tyres, you’re right what you’re saying but the brand size you are using most remote places don’t carry it and the price difference is a hell of a lot different but what you can do is just carry tyre with out a rim you always can get it fitted
Wow what a big surprise was not expecting to hear from you both tonight. Thank you from your advice on living in a caravan 24/7 . I definitely looking forward to seeing you both on Saturday 😊
We use Hema app on the IPad $100. Pins where you are. It’s been a life saver. Google maps is unreliable outside cities. Otherwise I tend to agree with your recommendations. 1 would recommend two things 1. having a good jack for you caravan A frame. We bought a Boss jack. 2. A 4 ton bottle jack and axle adaptor that you can use on your car or caravan.
Good points and agree with you there! Comfy chairs so important for the camping experience and having a second cassette also lowers the stress levels 😂 and the mat, yeh they are a must though i thought they were unneccessary until we got one haha. Thanks for sharing 👍
Great advice .. We carry a chainsaw that has never been used. Never have fires...to much work, smoke and responsibility. Agree re the HEMA Maps The water thing is crucial...carry a minimum of 240 litres
Love you guys so glad to see you back. Jake like to know your opinion on snorkels good investment or waste of money.. When you guys say your not trying to be the kings of traveling don't underestimate yourselves you guys have done more in two years than most weekend warriors will do in a lifetime. Looking forward to your next installment.
Good call on that list, and I'd tend to agree with them all. Heres another thing I'm learning as we prepare for our travels : buy once, cry once. After a lifetime of frugality I'm loosening the purse strings a little to buy quality gear. I dont want to add to the pile of Temu stuff starting to litter our lands!
Agree with you re the HEMA explorer device. I am (thought I was) pretty tech savy but like you, I have struggled to get it to do the most basic things. You can however zoom in to a very fine detail on the maps. The ones you showed you can enlarge but not zoom so that may be you issue there.
Hi Jake and Lil thanks for all the tips it is amazing how much stuff you take and you don’t need it I found after travelling for awhile I would put a sticker on things that I didn’t use on a weekly or a monthly basis and just get rid of them because half the time you don’t need them specially when I was riding around on a motorbike, very limited space anyway, keep up the good work do not worry about keyboard experts , Cliff from Logan City, Queensland, Australia 🇦🇺 I’m on the big island 🏝️
Hey legends. Ill take the Hema off your hands if u want to pass it on. Wifey and I are heading off on a three month trip south to SA/ Vic High Country etc in Feb next year and could do with something like that. Happy to swing you some Dollars Aust for the post etc.
I think there's a lot to be said to just either setting out and realise you may need to buy something on the road. Or..... do a month fairly local and see what you actually need....... Can you use a shovel and dig a hole as a toilet like we can here in Colorado in certain places? Do you have solar on your roof or is the portable your only solar??
Great vid guys. Surprised Jake isn’t drinking a coconut iced coffee! Have heard that Hema maps are better on other devices like the Garmin or on a phone or tablet using the Hema app. Apparently can zoom up more and get better detail.
I’m glad that I’m not the only one that doesn’t like the fire pit. I agree with you there 100%. I will never carry one either. Nothing worse than getting into bed smelling like smoke. I will have them at a caravan park that have them on site. That way you can have a very long hot shower, & the girlfriend can wash her hair. We actually agree on a lot of them but have never tried Hema. Great video totally loved it 👍
Great vid totally agree with all but the hema best thing ever i remember you guy getting in at least i differcult situation because of google maps lol, anyway thanks heaps keep them coming
Hey guys I’ve been looking at the iTechworld solar blankets but I’m unsure which one would be suitable for us. We have a hybrid camper with a 3000w inverter with 600 of solar on the roof. Just not sure how many watts I should get as in the 100, 200 or 300w blanket. Any advice?.
@@jenlaw398 hey! My best advice would be make sure you have a nice space to put it. Easy access will make you use it more so if you can fit the biggest one in a good spot then get that. But if a smaller one fits in a better spot then get that. But if you can, bigger is better.
If your giving away your Hema map gps I’d love to be able to give it to my son who had his car broken into and his gps and lots of other gear was stolen, I’m trying my best to set him up again as his insurance didn’t cover anything as it was only 3rd party property insurance, cheers and beers.
Your chairs are fairly universal with a number of companies selling them, eg Oztrail and drifta. Drifta do padded headrests and if you are heading to cold climates an awesome thick padded cover made to fit. (I have the Oztrail version, and the drifta accessories.) well worth it.
I don’t know what you’re talking about Chris they seem to be talking normal to me unless she’s gotta sit there like a dummy and saying nothing I just think your husband and wife and I just having a general conversation
I'm sure if either of them were interrupting the other (either on camera of off) they would find a way to raise the issue. They almost definitely don't need people to offer them any advice on this in the comments section of a social media post. Then again I'm different.
Could not buy one of your hats as they seem to damage you hair and even rip it out when you take it off! Ha ha ha I would love to get your Hema, mine was stolen by a thief in Perth. Bugger!

You both look disgustingly relaxed, so your trip is going well again and giving great advice as well!
Well done guys

Agree with a lot here! A good topic for another video in the same style I think would be vehicle specific upgrades, mods and accessories 😁
