    What hormones should be treated? Is there a link between this condition and PCOS?

    • @PelvicHealth
      @PelvicHealth  Рік тому +4

      Good question. Your hormones should be assessed by your gynecologist. They can identify any potential hormone imbalances and make the best recommendations for treatment in your specific case. PCOS and vulvodynia are often associated with each other.

    In case of pelvic floor tightness is there always some pain in the abdominal area?

    • @PelvicHealth
      @PelvicHealth  Рік тому +1

      Not always! Pelvic floor dysfunction can present many different ways. Abdominal pain is one of those ways, but there are many other potential symptoms one may experience.

    Honest question: can you heal vulvodynia? I really need to know and get some hope. I have burning pain for 18 years now and nothing helps and honestly no doctor can help. I am so done with this.

      There are many different causes for vulvodynia, most of which are treatable. The challenge is figuring out what the specific cause is of the vulvar pain.

      I had been diagnosed with vulvodynia stage 3 - the worst kind. I couldnt even take a shower without it feeling like a cut getting opened. Ive been doing rehab, using numbingcream (novicane) and touching the vulva for it to get used to touch. I have also done ALOT of pelvic floor relaxation exercises. this has helped alot. i can really be pain free most of my days. im still doing my rehab, i am not 100% done, but i have been able to wear what i want, sit, walk, och also even sex. ive been doing constant rehab everyday for 2 years, and now im really seeing some great results!

    Can topical gabapentine for my vulvodynia change my mental state? I was on Oral gabapentin and it was very bad I had terrible side effects mentally and I am a little hesitant about trying the topical cream my doctor wants me to try. Please let me know if the cream Will affect me possibly in a negative way. Thank you

      Typically local treatments do not have systemic side effects when used as prescribed. It is important to discuss these concerns with the prescribing doctor to make sure you are using the medication properly.

    Are hormone medications necessary for all patients with vulvodynia? I have heard of compounded creams and such but I don't have access to those in my country. I've also had my hormone levels checked by my endocrinologist-gynecologist and everything's within range. Also, anything topical irritates me.

    • @stephanieprendergast2643
      @stephanieprendergast2643 3 роки тому +1

      Hi Andy, this is a very common question. Not all subsets of Vulvodynia require topical hormonal therapies, however if there are hormonally mediated reasons why someone has Vulvodynia (oral contraceptive pill use, menopause, breast feeding, etc) then topicals are often a needed part of the treatment plan. Most general gynecologists and endocrinologists do not test pre-menopausal women for SHBG and their free testosterone. It is helpful to know these values to assist with a hormonally mediated diagnosis. Vulvar experts do test for these things.

    Do you think Ketamine maybe helpful? What are your thoughts about botox?Any suggestions to help with itching?

    • @PelvicHealth
      @PelvicHealth  5 місяців тому +1

      Ketamine topicals are promising for patients with nerve pain, but they are not used as a first line treatment.
      Botox helps when overly tight pelvic muscles are causing pain, and it works best in combination with physical therapy. It will not help in the case of hormonally mediated vulvodynia. Vulvar itching should be evaluated by a specialist to rule out yeast, and dermatologic issues first

    Do you have exercises just for I.C. on one of your videos ? Or physio for it internal external? Thank you .

    • @PelvicHealth
      @PelvicHealth  2 роки тому +2

      There are no exercises specifically just for IC. Exercise prescription is based upon the specific impairments of each individual case and everyone with IC does not necessarily have the same impairments. We would recommend seeing a pelvic floor physical therapist who can give you guidance on the best exercises specifically for you.

    Hello I've had generalised pain in my vulva and the areas around it. I get throbbing pain and soreness in my right labia along with itching. I took all the tests and they came out normal. Could this be a symptom of vulvodynia? Also how do i approach with treating it?

    • @PelvicHealth

      These can definitely be symptoms of vulvodynia. It may be best to start with a pelvic floor physical therapist. We do also offer virtual consultations and you can find out more here: pelvicpainrehab.com/telehealth/

    How long does it take vaginal tissue to heal after a prolonged yeast infection? No one seems to know an answer to this

    • @PelvicHealth
      @PelvicHealth  Рік тому +1

      We don't have an exact time either, sorry. Based on what we've seen in the clinic of people who have chronic yeast infections, once the yeast infection is effectively treated, the tissue can remain sensitized for months. Of course it will vary and the longer the yeast infection, the longer it takes.

      There are several different causes of vulvodynia. It sounds like you are experiencing allodynia. If you haven't checked your hormones yet, I would suggest doing so. There may be a myofascial cause, which a pelvic floor physical therapist should be able to assist you with. If you haven't ruled out a vulvar dermatological condition, I would also suggest doing so.
