What an intriguing, emotional, chaotic, and bittersweet end to a wonderful show. The Gum War and Golb may become ancient history in the Land of Ooo's future, but you and I will always be back then. Adventure Time comes to a close, but it feels like the world and characters it created will continue to live on forever (figuratively that is, most of the characters are "actually dead" to quote LSP). Won’t you come along with me as I dissect, analyze, and share my feelings on the AT series finale?

I return from my hiatus to bring you thoughts on the end of Adventure Time.
While the series is over, I will keep discussing this brilliant show into the distant future.
As a heads up to anyone concerned, depression is still kicking my ass on a daily basis, but I'm hoping I can push through and work on creating stuff despite that. I've been having more luck recently (as you can tell by my return), so let's hope I can keep it up. Don't worry though, I'm not going to push myself to my detriment or to the point of burn-out. I'll continue to place my health first, but I do legitimately feel better when I manage to be productive. It's just that my flavor of depression is the archenemy of productivity, so it's a big dumb psychological battle in my brain goo.
Anyway, my current goal is creating two videos a month (assuming they’re not super long like this one). Thanks for sticking with me, everyone!

i forgot where i heard it, but jake wasn’t able to hear the singing hole when we first were introduced to her. But at the end of the finale he’s able to hear her and that’s because he experienced great loss when he saw that his home was smashed to pieces.

And I guess Finn too since he saw himself get corrupt by grass demons and then die happily.

They brought Shoko up because Finn asked “how long have we been friends” and allowed PB to recall just how long they’ve been friends.

This would actually make a lot of sense
Well yeah that is quite literally the scene… The issue people are having is that in all of AT 278 episodes we see Shoko 3 times. PB and Shoko knew each other in the past but it didn’t end well and there honestly wasn’t much there to care about. It could have and would have been much more powerful if PB saw Finn as a younger and more immature reflection of himself. The scene could have been a little longer and showed how much PB needed Finn in her life and what he meant to her and how far he had come. We’re told first season by PB “you’re my hero Finn”. It’s not about his past lives. It’s about his life and the people he loved that he fought for.
IMO Shoko showed up for one last moment to overshadow a hero’s heart and I think it was a bad decision for her to think of Shoko when looking at Finn.
“How long have we been friends?” Well for us… as long as we’ve known them.

@@brickabang even if she is, she wouldn't necessarily be living in the same house. The tree house was her's and she returned there after traveling, planning to move back in. Then she moved into that cave house (off screen) letting jake and finn stay in the tree house. It's entirely likely her and PB might travel together or even move in together.

13:00 I’m pretty sure the reason why BMO “forgot” Finn’s name is referenced in episode “Be more” in season five when BMO hides in a box, carelessly deleting some core files to stimulate himself. One of the files was even named Finn.stuff. Its kind of upsetting that BMO is still doing this kind of stuff, if i’m not wrong.

I think Jake being reincarnated into his family line is actually kinda sweet. Jake never got spend much time or have relationships with much of his family.
Actually, Princess Bubblegum's Jellybeans turning into birds makes sense BECAUSE it doesn't make sense. Let me explain: If Golb lives off of, and creates chaos, then why wouldn't the beings it creates also do that. Imagine if you shot a rocket at something, but instead of it blowing it up, it just scatters glitter. The idea that Princess Bubblegum shoots jellybeans, expecting them to hurt the Golb Beast, but instead they turn into Birds would be VERY confusing, especially to a character so deeply rooted to logical thinking. And in most cases like the one presented to us in that scene, confusion leads to chaos, and chaos leads to more food for Golb.

Also- can we talk about that corrupted GBG for a sec? I mean.. damn, first they (presumably) see their sibling dead, shattered to bits, then they get corrupted by a demon, and, thats it, their dead, they weren’t themself anymore, they were turned into the thing they tried to protect people from, a danger. Yes I know this sounds like a bad theory I just honestly felt bad for the underrated gumball machines.

Simon is still probably immortal, as she wished to “use the power to keep Simon safe,” which would mean keeping him safe for all eternity.

He's still worried about getting physically killed by the glassassins, so idk he might just not age like LotR elves or something. Also idk how Simon without a heart is gonna live out a regular human life. Even before Obsidian, there was more to Betty's wish than the immediate danger of Golb
Simon might also be immortal, because he went on the same journey as Magic Man, so he might have picked up immortality on the way.

The future ooo makes me sad, the gray faded colors and realizing that a lot of the characters I loved are gone. It’s really sad

@@khalil42 not everyone gets a happy ending most of us don't, people grow up they change it doesn't make sense for Finn to act like he did when he was 13 after he has been through so much stuff and trauma, there is a lot of stuff that happens in our lifes we can't control and so did in adventure time, I find it to be a verry real show like it deals with real stuff but ti's hidden under this mask of a silly kids show so most people miss it.
''the ending was absolute garbage,this wasn’t a happy ending,because the whole place changed,home changed,everybody changed'' just because it wasn't a ''happy ending'' doesn't mean it was garbage, idk how old you are but when you grow up you find that not everything goes your way, sometimes life just fucks you over and leaves you on the floor and there is nothing you can do about it, you just have to find a way to deal with it or to cope with it, there are bad times and good times our brain is programed to focus on the bad times but you should try and focus on the good time, also when you hang out with your friends having a good time or playing videogames with online strangers that you might never hear from again having fun, try to really pe there like be present enjoy it as much as you can, it won't last forever, and the bad times, if it's because of a decision you made take responsability and deal with it and learn from it, but if it's something out of your controll try to not lose too much sleep over it you know, you had no say in how it went but you do have controll over how you react to it. anyways bye I'll go before I get too deep into this shit / whatch the show again maybe you'll get it this time. good luck out there man

Obviously they aren't going to make Shermy and Beth exactly like Finn and Jake.
The ending wasn't "garbage" just because it's sad. It would be pretty bland if there wasn't any sadness in the ending

I think lady cooking her pups could mean that she is the one raising them and making them into the person they are. Jake might have inner fear that he wouldn’t have any control or say on how his pups are being raised. That they would come to their mother instead of both their parents.

I was already crying but when Simon said: "Hey no one gets to choose how it happens". It broke me so much, because it's so true and the delivery was so real that it made me feel all the feelings
In my vision, the finale is sad ending, I just can't help but get a heartache whenever I even think about it
Looking at other shows finales just don't hit as hard, even Regular Show, which made me cry when it ended doesn't hit me that much now
I think it's the fact that literally everything changed, and that almost no one remembers the characters, Bmo forgetting Finns name was a fucking gut punch man
Yeah, I think they embodied how real life works in the ending of AT. We all find it easier to have TV shows end with a big finale but this one really didn't. I mean, the finale was fucking amazing, but as BMO said it didn't end with a war or anything. I actually felt that nothing changed at all, really. Just same old same old. The treehouse was broken, sure, but people's home's burn down all the time.
Some people died, etc. (grass Finn) but generally speaking it was all the same. Betty still was looking out for Simon, and Simon still was asking Prismo about Betty. Magic Man is normal man but still rules Mars. Finn and Jake are still Finn and Jake. Grass Finn became the sword again.
Everyone just lived their lives until their deaths, which were at different times for everybody. I just love how some characters lived on and other's didn't. Sweet Pea is still alive, and PB is probably still alive along with her candy citizens.
And BMO forgetting Finn's name... its a sad truth but after a thousand years would you really remember someone's name?

Adventure time is so expertly written, from start to finish, that it really makes you feel like youre part of the world imo. In a prismo "outside looking in without interfering" sorta way.

I love how there's no closure to Finn and Jake's adventure. it really does feel like one chapter of their lives ended and another began.
Exactly. However I will always believe that Finn gained immortality through some form or another. Jake also has ways to mitigate age entirely. It’s possible with all the magical artifacts they’ve gained, and I just like to believe he gets to take on a more important role in the universe. He has so much potential for further stories. Imagine a version of Finn who explores space and has adventures similar to season 1 but far more mature, and even potentially dark. Adventure time handles cosmic horror extremely well, and just imagine a grown up Finn and Jake having to face beings like orgalorg, but whom are far more powerful. It could also turn into a more well budgeted show if it got picked up by adult swim and Pendleton came back
I would like a one off comic showing Finn as adult, like how he was in the pillow world episode

Finn’s love life is a very interesting thing in the story. He canonically dated PB when she aged down to his age, Marcy jokingly flirted with him and even made her own Fionna and Cake story about it, is now great friends, not only with PB and Marcy, but also his ex gf flame princess and has an off and on relationship with huntress wizard. I think considering he is the hero of Ooo his love life being non existent or at most on and off relationships that leave no grudges are the best in line for his character at the end of the series. He was obsessed with being in love for half of the story. Being content with being alone romantically is the natural progression of his character imo
now that i think about it the marceline fionna and cake episode is kinda fuċked if you flip it around
I think the separation of the “3 bubblegums” is similar to Aphrodite, as in late Hellenistic religion the attributes of Aphrodite seemed so contrary to one another that she was separated into different goddesses, Aphrodite Urania and Aphrodite pandemos. Aphrodite Urania was the more holy goddess, a motherly goddess of true love and fertility, a pure form of love. Aphrodite pandemos (or Aphrodite “for the people”) contains all the promiscuous, jealous and cruel behaviors characteristic of her in the myths. I think because of pb’s status as a goddess, finns mind has done a similar thing.

I love that the final villan is chaos and disorder. In the beginning of the show, everything was random; there was little rhyme or reason to things; jake can shapeshift, there are gum people, magic exists and every new charachter is a wierd new thing, amd you're just souposed to accept it. However, as the show went on, things gradually started to make sense; Jake is an alien, candy is one of the four elements, magic is its own can of worms honestly and there are so many wierd species and characters because of the nuclear mushroom war. The show has honestly grown so much, and I find it really cool that it went from being random and nonsensical for the sake of it to a show with a surprising amount of lore and reasons for everything that happens in which choas is litterally the main villan. It's almost like the show itself is getting charachter development tbh, and that's really cool.

Really dramatic and horrifying moment that was nearly to make me to drop a tear, onto 19:40 - small, unprotected 5 yo girl in front of totally destructed, dead and burning world. Just imagine yourself on her place.
Yeah, it hurts. Strong moment.
That's one of the scenes I always use to make the point that Adventure Time gets a lot heavier and deeper than early seasons would have you think.

I would like to think that Jake fears the unknown prices of lady rainicorn, the peices he cant quite grasp because of cultural differences. This can been scene directly by rainicorn cooking her children, a reference to the episode where her parents tried to eat fin; who jake might I add had a very parental nature twoards finn at this time.

The Only Problem with this finale was there was no Prismo reaction through his TV.
Jake could also hear the singing hole in the finale so that means he went through some loss recently.

My guess for Lady cooking her kids at 30:14 is that Jake is still traumatized/ scared from Lady's parents trying to eat Fin and so has fears about Rainicorns trying to eat his family.

No its because Jake is scared he wont be needed as a father because lady is the better parent than the childish father that jake is. This is explained how the children grow into vampires but when lady interfered, she cooks them into a meal which can represent how with cooking you can turn literal flesh into a delicious meal. I believe a certain episode talks about how jake hasnt been a good father.
I feel like Betty’s remaining conscious in golb works to contain him. Thus the visual ribon and the bindings in the body.

with the fionna and cake finale, we do find out that betty is still conscious in golb, deciding to convert the lich but also keeping simon alive, makes me think that golb and betty are one being now, they’re merged
Does anyone remember when pillow world Finn died and jumped off Golb's tongue? Golb followed him with his eyes, or at least acknowledged him in some way. I don't really understand why Golb didn't do anything at all except breathe in Ooo when he can clearly acknowledge his surroundings
I think Golb's reasoning for anything he does would be completely incomprehensible to mortals. However I would venture to guess that Golb was acknowledging Finn's unexpected chaos he created. Maybe he was surprised or impressed.

The Shoko callback was meant more to fit with Finn's specific wording than the actual situation

Yeah, a long, long time. Even in past lives, demonstrated by Shoko's appearance. Though I can still see what you meant when you felt it was shoehorned it, I think it fit well enough and was a nice callback.

I thought bonnie seeing shokos arm was more of her just thinking about her history with finn in general and how she even knew his incarnation from a previous lifetime
At 21:23 when talking about Shoko and Finn, I think they are the same soul. In one episode where Finn went into his mind vault, he remembered his past life as Shoko and found the medallion to animate gumball guardians in the tree house. So maybe this scene is trying to convey that PB saw this in Finn because they act similar? Not to mention the fact that in both lives they were adventurers who lost the same arm. Destiny?
Dakota House I’m just curious why Finn saw Shoko before that in the haunted house episode. Like it was kinda random for her to show up there if she was literally buried under the treehouse. You’d think Finn would have seen visions before then
@@shanepaulryanalexander2934 He was really scared though. It makes sense to me that he could get so scared that memories of past lives began popping up out of seemingly nowhere.
@@shanepaulryanalexander2934 It was because the haunted house is exactly the same house where Shoko got the stealing mission from the Bath Boy Gang. It was where the incident that eventually led to her death started. I personally believe this is also why Finn saw Shoko's ghost while sleeping after he first met her ghost in the haunted house: Finn sleeps in the tree house, where Shoko eventually passed away.

I also liked how when Golb appeared Finn was ready to be the hero of the world but he was really not needed. Normal Man went searching for Simon and he stuck along for his own desire to be a hero. That's why his acceptance of death hits hard. He was still trying to be the hero but in that moment he accepted that he's another person, he's still a hero but not every aspect of his life or death has to be heroic

Noticed: GOLB is just watching at this without any interest, as deity needed to warch. He was able to destroy this world but he didn't do that.
His aim was this - when Beety asked inside GOLB guts to make him leave Ooo, it just said : NOPE, WRONG, TRY AGAIN
And when she wished a deep desire to keep Simon safe, GOLB said UH YEAH, transformated and became more stronger apparently. Before he had a child appearence and maybe mind, but after he became mature and strong... humanoid? fusion with Beety changed all of him.

@33:51 I think the Martin-creature was also in Fern's vault because it existed in Finn's mind after he found out about his father. The creature is a manifestation of the fear of being like his dad. That fear lived in Finn's mind before the episode where we phyically see the creature for the first time.
I think it's important that marceline talks to bubblegum before the war because when she explains that she's lived through something like this before, the goes back to the stake series when she tells to the vampire king that what she noticed during all these years is that history repeats itself and nobody lives long enough to notice.

Finn's whole deal of stopping the war might be due to his reincarnations as the blue comet. Marceline in Stakes says it best, that the world goes in circles but she's the only one old enough to notice them. Finn is the reincarnation of the blue catalyst comet which struck the world during the mushroom war, deep down he's seen wars tear the world to pieces before, he's trying to stop the repeat.

I love that so much of the finale was in a dream. Adventure time does dreams better than any other show. I don't think they were covering their eyes to protect them from a flash of light, it was more like an implication that they were seeing something that they shouldn't, that type of thing
I know I'm waaaayyyy late to the party but I have a theory why BMO forgot Finns name. BMO was damaged when the monsters destroyed the tree house. It did not mess BMO up at first but also 1000 years is a very long time even for a robot so time and the damage BMO suffered took its toll and now he is forgetful
Nathan Trumbo on top of that, if bmo were to get himself fixed(at the factory) without going to mo, he would have to first go through memory wipes, since he was broken in the finale. This would cause him to not remember jake and finn, only retelling what was eventually told to him later on.
The scene where Goliad is trying to read Finns mind and he desperately tries to stop it is so realistic I was shocked

Meh, a lot of people are upset by BMO forgetting their names, but a rose by any other name and all that.
He remembers who they were and how much they loved him and he loved them back, that's what really matters.
When I think about I adventure time, I cry a bit. It has taught me how to make the best out of bad situations and have fun with it, and really that’s what’s been missing from my life. You don’t need to go through life thinking that it’s terrible, just except that you will have your ups and downs. I’ll always miss this show.
I think Finn's reasoning in opposing the war is really solid; even if he hasn't consciously thought it through:

About Jake's dream sequence, the one with Rainicorn cooking their child, I think it represents Jake's fear of his nature as a shapeshifter. His biological father, Warren Ampersand, had to consume his offspring to prolong life. Being half shapeshifter himself, Jake dreads the possibility that he would have do the same to his beloved pups when he gets old. This causes a conflict, because Jake is also afraid of death. It's his inner dilemma
Minh Pham I don’t know about this one because when jake had his croak dream he went out of his way to see the ends of it. I never got the feeling that jake was always scared to die. He was always cool about coming close to death even when a demon took his blood. I also don’t see why he’d struggle with a possibility that he’d take his children’s life because he knows he’d never do it. He even was willing to be stranded on a foreign planet for them. The series never played into him wanting to use his children to preserve himself only his ego when you look at card wars with his daughter and him wanting to out skate his grandchildren even to look cool. I think the dream deals more with his inability to be a good father seeing that he was so distant and ego driven

I really love simon's and betty's closure, I actually believe they really weren't made to be even if they loved eachother. As they got closer, they started to transform into one another, it ending in betty succumbing to a greater force than simon's crown just to save him and everyone else. It's tragic and romantic at the same time, like their whole relationship.

i would like to mention, how bmo started the story as the end of the world. think of it that way, maybe it is the of his world? the story of how the group lost their home, had their last giant adventure and maybe starting to loose themself. bmo is a videogame, something a growing up finn starts to neglect. or maybe there was no greater adventure after that (maybe minor ones). it was the beginning of the end of bmo's world, loosing his friends and family, but still remaining, which leads to him collecting the relics of his past friends

I feel like Time Adventure is a more mature version of Come Along With Me.
While the latter is about living in a happy moment with a close friend, and knowing there are many more to come, Time adventure is about those moments ending, and remembering them fondly, not being sad they're over, but happy they happened.

I like the idea that Finn and Fern's Collective Vault is locked away in Jake's Vault. Since both times Jake has Finn open the vault, it makes sense that Jake protects Finn from it till he knows Finn's gotta dig through it to help him. Bein a protective big brother pyscholgically. After an (admittedly short) scroll through the comments, I didn't see anyone talking about Jake's subconscious manifestation of Lady cooking their vampire pups. The most common interpretation of eating a your own child(ren), especially when mixed with fears that the child(ren) turned out "wrong", is the subconscious desire to "reabsorb" your kid(s) so they become a part of you again, thus regaining control of a situation you never really had control of, but rather, experienced an illusion of control throughout baby's infancy

The unused concept art for the body part monsters looks super cool. But also impossible to animate. And like with the backgrounds in the dream sequence you can clearly tell that the crew was still working with a TV show budget.
Allot of the unused concept art for the body monsters , or at least one in general, had big Litch inspired themes.
Also, the models were seen as too graphic for CN, so they weren’t approved.
The vampire children was an analogy for the life sucking feeling parents get when they realize their kids take up all their time and energy. Could be why Jake just ignored them as soon as they could take care of themselves.
I love how Lolly didn’t have to go through the dream sequence to just call it a day, despite being loyal to an evil person, she is genuinely cool. I love when shows have a henchman figure who is really a cool dude/dudette. A great example is the cup head show with Henchman if u feel like searching it up.

I just watched the final episode w my sister yesterday and got a lil bit emotional. growing up i always have had an overactive imagination, and adventure time is the closest it would come to being able to see it. I grew up watching adventure time and have always loved it deeply. just something about it clicks with me in a different way than any other show or book or movie or videogame. it'll always have a special place in my heart, and I wish i could thank the team behind this.

I think that singing wasn't what actually fought back against the abominations, but was the harmonization of everyone singing. The opposite of chaos is harmony, so it makes sense that it would work against golb.

21:23 I always saw this as a reference to the fact that Bonnie has had an incarnation of Finn around for potentially hundreds of years. Finn proclaims 'we've been friends for a long time' just before this flashback, and I believe that is directly relevant. It reminds Bonnie, Finn's soul has had an influence on her life for a long time, in the same way that Bonnie has had an influence on Finn. The focus on the robotic arm is there to remind the Bonnie that she has guided Finn's soul for ages, protecting and aiding his incarnates along the way. Thus Finn, and the knowledge this incarnation of him possesses, has been influenced greatly by Bonnie. He knows her very well, perhaps on a level he isn't even aware of himself, which is why Bonnie respects his plea, and agrees to try a peaceful rout.

I think pb being in Finn’s vault was his failed relationship with her. He expected so much and received so little. It feels like you’ve always been in the wrong when you got rejected and the toxicity of yourself reveals distracting you from your true morals. He has it in the vault cause it’s sad and bad for him.
Remember when he turned to fire in Elementals, when going back as a human, he had all those angry or refuse emotions of "What could" he still remembers when she was transformed 13 and the closest they got to be a couple, just to turn off that memory and remind her as what she is, a good friend, soo in a way, she turning off the flame was supressing the emotion in the vault
There was one episode where Finn had a nightmare of the things he's put in his vault. The episode when a giant worm king was sucking on his life energy. In that scene where PB was there (she came from his vault), she ignored him and said she needed to deal with some adult stuff. So I think it's more of that for a long time, Finn felt like PB treated him like a kid and doesn't take him seriously. Their huge age gap always felt like a barrier for him in the first few seasons. Maybe a part of him still feels insecure because of that. I feel like Finn's super over her tho

Underrated comment right here. Jake had his time struggling at being a parent and he has treated food like children before (burrito), so it's just a way to express the sentiment of having your children grow detached from you (jokes not funny comment).

Music has always been a huge part of AT. It only made sense that it would be the ultimate weapon in AT.
I don't think there's much "golb" in that body. He barely even seems concious. He just was summoned to the area and breathed. Everything he did seemed automatic. He's not a being, he's just a manifested agent of chaos.
Betty might be mostly in control with golb just being a set of instincts that may slowly warp her mind as the earth years fly by.
I feel like the Lich use to have that sorta characterization but they dropped it.

I finally watched 'Come Along With Me' for the first time last night, yeah I know it's 2020, but for a long time I didn't want to face the fact that Adventure Time was over. I loved it so much though, I think my brain exploded like 28 times while watching it and I was 100% emotionally drained by the end..... and somehow without me noticing I had inched my way from where I was sitting on the couch at the start of the episode, to standing right in front of the tv by the end of the episode.

Well it's not really over because I'm not sure if you've heard about it but there's an Adventure Time spinoff called "Distant Lands". There's four a hour long episodes and each of them focus on different characters like the first episode is about BMO, the second is Marceline and Princess Bubblegum, third is Peppermint Butler, and last is Finn and Jake. The first episode came out last month and the second hasn't yet but they'll be a sneak preview next week and hopefully a date of release the episode

This finale really hits hard.
Like on one hand, every character in this established universe built up for over like a decade gets closure in this universe; on the other hand, a large part of my childhood is over and gone. Hearing the end credits song from way back in the very first episode as the end of this episode really hit me hard. On my first viewing, I was only on the verge of tears, but when I rewatched it this morning, I finally let the end sink in and cried for the time long past and let it go. It’s like saying one final good bye to a close loved one who lived a long, good life.
Jesus I didn’t know I could translate my thoughts in such a good way.
