    In his interview, he got covid before coming to Serbia so he couldn’t practice and was quarantined for 6 days. When he arrived in Serbia, he lost his baggage with his wrestling shoes in it. It arrived just in time for the match then his money got stolen in the hotel room. Finally he won Gold.

    This was amazing. I thought Zain had a good shot at winning gold going in and was rooting for him as an American. Narikuni put on a show. It wasn't just the leg lace but the defense after Zain's shot. It has to be tough for Zain to be completely dominated like this. You in the world finals and you have nothing. One would expect after a turn or two that the leg lace would not have been that tight and there would have been some space to kick out for Zain. But no. After a really good scramble I thought Zain lost that point but showed both wrestlers were competitive Zain still had a chance to score if he could get his offense going. Narikuni had other ideas. Narikuni did not let Zain back in the match. And that is how you win a world championship.

    Not easy for a country that do not have collegiate wrestling or a culture for wrestling to win gold, Japan must have made a breakthrough in level of coaching, and knowledge given that they are able to create 2 different world champions in quick succession.

    Am I the only one that thinks you should only be able to get 2 from an ankle lace ? And than the position should have to be let go and reestablished to continue scoring points? I don’t think these matches should be decided this way. Let him get his 2 and than work for different tilts and if he can’t get it let them start on the feet again. Just my opinion , too high stakes of a match for just one ankle lace to get 8 points and win

    • @Jlundeen
      @Jlundeen 2 роки тому +1

      No I think the same thing. If you can get an ankle lace or a trap-arm and then spin a bunch of times to get a tech it doesn't really seem the guy ever reached a defensible position. But that's obviously not how most people see it.

    • @clubeyxander5132
      @clubeyxander5132 2 роки тому +6

      I fully disagree. Getting an ankle lace is not as easy as it looks, neither is spinning your opponents from that lace. It's all practice and timing. Do you honestly believe that the opponent is just letting the other person get the ankle lace? If it's that easy and unfair, why doesn't everybody do it every single match? Besides the ankle lace technique is one of the few not-boring sequences in wrestling, it would be a devastating loss for the whole of wrestling to make such rule changes when wrestling itself is struggling to keep its place in the Olympics.

    • @Jlundeen
      @Jlundeen 2 роки тому +4

      @@clubeyxander5132 I see what you're saying, and I'm fully aware most people think this is great. The leg lace is very hard to get, no one disputes this. I think they should be awarded. With two points. In my opinion a tech fall should be accomplished with multiple moves, and that to me would be exciting. Locking up the lace is hard but the subsequent rolls are often not, as is incredibly obvious in this match. I would simply define returning to a "defensible position" differently than you.
      The only time someone should be able to end the match with a single move is a pin. But again, it's my own opinion, we're fine to disagree.
