- I decided to fly to every single NYC area airport! All 3 NYC major airports JFK, LGA, EWR and 7 others all in one day!
It took 3 hours to take my Mooney M20J 201 into every airport underlying the NY Class Bravo Airspace. Wednesday January 13th, with 2 passengers, I embarked on a flight like no other. 10x airports in just under 3 hours!
We took off from Linden KLDJ and immediately switched to Newark Tower. After a touch and go on 22L at Newark KEWR, we continued to make a touch and go on 31 at LaGuardia KLGA. To complete the Trifecta, we made a stop and go landing on the longest runway on the east coast, 31L at Kennedy KFJK.
Upon completing the Trifecta of the 3 major NYC airports, we went on to all the towered airports: Farmingdale KFRG, Westchester KHPN, Teterboro KTEB, Caldwell KCDW, Morristown KMMU. Finally, we finished off the flight with the uncontrolled fields of Linden KLDJ and Lincoln Park N07. What an unbelievable and epic flight!
Watch my 4K UHD video with exterior mounted GoPros, ATC audio communications, and more on this flight that as far as I can tell has never been done before all in one shot!
10 airports in 3 hours:
KEWR Newark
KLGA LaGuardia
KJFK Kennedy
KFRG Farmingdale/Republic
KHPN Westchester/White Plains
KTEB Teterboro
KCDW Essex County/Caldwell
KMMU Morristown
KLDJ Linden
N07 Lincoln Park
Cudos to this pilot! Instead of 'boring' straight lines through the sky, you created a challenge and executed it flawlessly. Your communications were excellent and you obviously were well-prepared and worked the ATC facilities like a 'pro.' Your approaches and landings were concise and consistent. That was an entertaining video - but also a great way for a pilot to push their skills and experience envelope. Two thumbs up!
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed.
I laughed when JFK asked if roughly 9,000 feet of runway was enough for you to take off 😂
The only question is if I could do enough touch and goes straight ahead to get recurrent...
Epic flight as always! No one knows how to use a Mooney quite like Mooney201er!
Crazy! An incredible day for sure, but crazy! Where I live, for me to hit that many airports in one day would take all day, but I think I've added a trip like that to my bucket list for the future!
Vert cool idea and fun video
Outstanding!!
That was epic! Thanks for the video.
Really a once in a life time thing in a 201.
Well, I suppose I could do it again... just don't feel like doing all the cameras and video processing and whatnot.
Dang Mike that's something !
Very good. But you forgot the biggest runway NYC has. Ok Captain which runway you want to use?? We are going to be in the Hudson!! LOL.. Former LDJ CFi and charter pilot all over those airports in the 1990's.
Good to "fly along" w/ you Mike. But, what abt FLU? Learned to fly there.
Neat!
very cool
Brilliant, amazing, awesome !!! it would be totally illegal in France where LFPG and LFPO (Paris' largest airports) are fully restricted to airline traffic !!
You should have a like a live mini map from flight radar of plane finder on the top left corner to see where you are exactly!
Newark isn’t a NYC airport. It was the first commercial airport in the nation built by the City of Newark. When Newark reached “Build Out”, she had to push her new long runways south into Elizabeth. It serves the metro area.
Newark goes under the IATA code NYC along with JFK/LGA and is part of the NY Class Bravo Airspace.
Mooney 201er
Correct. But it’s not in NYC as people around the world think.
I’ve seen your videos. Nice flying.
I flew a Ryan Navion. Mooney makes one hell of an airplane.
Stay safe.
Former CFI and Charter pilot all over that area 25 years ago. Memories. But... How come Lincoln Park is a short airport for a mooney?? I used to bring guys there at night, on a C310..
It's short with nearly full tanks and 3 adults. One hiccup or single mag failure away from not making it out safely at that kind of weight. I prefer to carry more safety margin than that.
@@Mooney201er Ok.. I also met a latino guy based there on a ... C150?. NO.. A Piper Aerostar.. That is too hot for that runway.. They had no reversers. Stop from 100 mph by braking only..
I took EFATO training at LDJ in 1996 and 2001 on Tomahawk 50B. The blue one. Chatted with Paul Dudley many times. Is he still there??
Hey Mike when are you going to do another Caribbean Circumvent?
I wish. Doubt I'll ever have the time to pull off something like that again.
Thats epic! I have a question by the way, fo you offer flight lessons? And how much would they cost? Thanks!
Thanks. No, I'm not and probably too much. Take care.
Did you call ahead on the phone to plan with the NYC 3 airports? What day of the week was that? Saturday afetrnoon is real quiet these days.
Nope! Just got hand offs from one tower to the next. It was a Wednesday.
Wondering when you don’t use the FBO in class Bravo and you’re only doing a touch an go, do they still send you a bill or they would accommodate you?
I dunno. I still haven't received any bills from my touch and goes in May and July.
@@Mooney201er 😎 LAX is $80 regardless!
Michael.... your bird is looking a little ratty... maybe a paint job is in order?
That's the plan. Was supposed to get it last year but then covid hit.
