Microburst. Straight line winds gusting to around 100kmh plus intense rainfall. Had a storm like that punch through Mortdale in southern Sydney on Tuesday morning.
use to get wild weather like that in Winnipeg, Canada hot muggy humid summer weather then the rapid cool down you could smell the rain coming sometimes with hail strong winds and the intense lightening show that would light up the sky.
We do get similar, severe thunderstorms here in Australia. Usually on the southeast Queensland coastal areas, as well as up around the Tropical North. What's occurred here is where strong downdrafts from within a large thunderstorm have driven very heavy rain. Having said this, though, we also have another rule in place here: if you can't see the road very clearly, stop on the roadside where you can, and allow the heaviest rain to pass, before resuming your journeys.
A couple of hours later, I had to ride my bicylce through less severe rainfall back to where I live, about 9 kilometers west of this point. I had forgotten to take my rainsuit with me so I still got wet in a couple of minutes. But I did NOT get wet n 20 seconds... :-)
5:14 Wonder what made the driver of the black car jump the red light only to stop at the crossing barrier? A change of a a few 10s on metres.
I'm not a meteorologist but that definitely looks like a micro burst to me. I'm glad that I wasn't out in it.
very good
I agree look at the trees

Microburst or extreme outflow from the storm cell.
