    Excellent version of a melody that is about 1,000 years old, thanks!

    Wonderful rendition -- and I believe that you got the nuance of the tune just right. This was a BATTLE MARCH (and it is in "fast-march" time - preparing to charge) - and the Muster/Leinstermen marching to the tune (played by harpers -- since these guys were Irish) all were prepared to die. Your final coda turns the march into a dirge -- as is appropriate (Clontarf was a terrible battle).

      Thank you for picking up my intention for this arrangement! :D I don't think many people do. A lot of musicians play this song very differently, more softly, which is also beautiful of course, but I tried to make the tempo more fitting for a battle march. Thank you very much :)

    Superb version. I also arranged this theme on my guitar. What magic music. It is so pure that it is hard to believe that it is a funeral march dedicated to King Brian Boru, nicknamed Bóruma.
    Congratulations for this beautiful interpretation.

    Very nice version - my Mom is an O'Dwyer: O'Duibhirs of Kilnamanagh and also Wicklow - I have DNA matches with distant cousins descended from those families to support the connection - many ended up in New South Wales as rebel convicts - also families that were traditional allies of the O'Dwyers and Maguire: I also have plenty of evidence of our descent from the Maguires of Fermanagh to the tune of Mom's distant cousins being from Kinawley near Enniskillen in Fermanagh (they ended up in New South Wales also) and also we have French/Spanish admixture (so general Southern Euro for Mom and Uncle about 10% and myself 4%) that is from Irish exiles of either (both, or perhaps one or the other) of those families serving as Wild Geese from the 1600s onwards as there are none of those nationalities in Mom's family tree (or my father's side - which is mainly Lutheran German and Scots-Irish from Pennsylvania) - old Colonial families of the 1600s in the NE of America - or Irish exiles and potato famine Irish so only explanation is Irish serving over on the Continent and then coming back to Ireland (which both O'Dwyers and Maguires did do) and then on to the States! Also MacDonald of Barra in that mixture and French Canadian so probably from the Maguires (MacDonalds mixed with that group up north also O'Neill and O'Donnell - that shows up also) and the French from Exiles... Keating records The O Duibhidhir of Coill na Manach (Kilnamanagh) and Mag Cormain were the O'Brien's marshals of the hosts - and also Pillars of each battle ford! They were quite militant! Maguires also well known for their fierce resistance to the Monarchy ;-)! My father's side also had Jacobite Scottish Highlanders (Fraser, MacDonald, Ferguson of Atholl - all supported by DNA matches), but not as much as my Mother's side! Also you are very pretty my kind of lady! Keep up the good work!

    that big thing is a lap harp? it's not as large as a 47 string concert harp, but a lap one?

    • @BrannaLaurelin
      @BrannaLaurelin  5 років тому +1

      It's not a lap harp because they are smaller, typically around 22 strings. This is a 34-string lever harp (it has levers instead of pedals), which is technically a floor harp - but this one has a built-in extendable leg which makes it possible to play it standing up :) I can also play it sitting down on a low seat. Harps come in all sizes ^_^ I also have a 40-string lever harp which is almost as big as a concert harp!
