Jeremy Soule's first video game as composer (I think).
I remember the music was unlike anything I had ever heard with most games incorporating techno, hard rock, or just classical type music...this game definitely stood out.

I'm 38 and I still remember this wonderful game. I can still see myself with the huge book that came with it, which helped me a lot lol (it was hard for me at the time, given my young age). I wouldn't consider SOE my absolute favorite SNES game (it's close!) but for some reason this one song just triggers an unreal amount of nostalgia every time I listen to it. This game was in the clearance bins by the hundreds back at Toys r us back in the day which is why my Mom bought it for me. I didnt have a lot of games on the snes and I think this was a close 2nd for me to zelda link to the past. It has some issues like bazooka ammo bug at the end of the game but the music is amazing and so is the game overall. By far the best video of an OST. The old TV, the title screen left on loop, some glimpses of game footage on the bottom right where the speaker normally is.
And I just checked your playlists to see if you had more of these. Awesome! I recently mounted a little 8-inch monitor and a DEX cable to my wall in my WFH office. Checkpoint: My younger brother and I used to play SOE in the 1990s, more precisely between 1995 and 1997, while my mother and father worked all day to keep the house and buy dinner. He and I used to walk around the city center, because there were no residents in the building where we lived, it was a commercial building and therefore, we had no one to play with and we ran after video stores and arcades. However, one day we found a rental company far away, it was about 4 kilometers to go and another 4 to come back! However, there were several North American tapes and among them, Secret Of Evermore.
3:30 Rewatching this scene of the Squaresoft logo helped me have an incredible nostalgic epiphany, which is associated with the incredible and atmospheric soundtrack.
    Good times :)

I never played any SNES games as the Wii was already out when I was growing up, so I can't exactly compare it to other soundtracks made around that time, but even by today's standards the composing is really nice and atmospheric. Just finished a summer of 16 bit RPGs. I completed Secret of Mana, Earthbound, Chrono Trigger and Secret of Evermore. I gotta say.. I'm really glad I played S of E, but my God this game is so cryptic and tedious. Chrono Trigger was downright easy compared to it imo. The ingredients system is creative, but the amount of grinding it takes to level up spells kind of takes a little fun out of the experience. Everyone should give this one a try, but it is super polarizing for good reasons.
