This dude is like the physical embodiment of Twitter discourse. Complaining and nitpicking while simultaneously not really knowing what he’s talking about 💀
And that's the most frustrating part. Has this dude EVER sat down and think what he's talking about sounds reasonable? That he should learn WHY people complain about race swaps like Velma and he might not understand (In the case of Teen Titans Go and Ben 10) what the flaws of the shows even are in the first place? But I guess it doesn't even matter cause a lot of the topics he's fighting about are things already talked about or resolved. NOTHING is being clarified and there is NOTHING new brought to whatever argument he's trying to make
@@Doobie-kx8fkthe main problem with Velma’s race swapping is that when they did it they replaced Velma with Mindy Kaling’s self insert but with the name of Velma. From what I could tell about the reboot FOP’s main character that she’s intended to be a completely different person than Timmy so making it not a race swap to begin with
As a black person, in my opinion, this show works because it actually creates a new black character and doesn't change Timmy's skin. If you ask me how I feel about black representation, I would rather create a new character who happens to be black than change the skin of the original character

"Rise of the TMNT was unfaithful to the source material." Yeah, you know what else was unfaithful to the source material. Literally every series of TMNT in existence. Everything from the Games, to the movies, to the TV shows. None of them are faithful to the source.
ironically the 4kids cartoon, while taking its own direction at many points, is the closest any of the adaptations got to actually following the 'spirit' of the original comics, even being the first time some characters only seen in the comics appeared in the show. Hell, its why Stockman was black (and why he was blakc in following adaptations)
Again, the 80s TMNT show was drastically different from the original comics. 2003 (until Fast Forward) was far closer to the comics. I'm not saying the 80s one is bad, it's just IMHO each iteration does their own thing, have their strengths and weaknesses, and it helps to make them stand out from one another.
Like that one scene from Ted 2, where Ted was arguing with that one Boston neighbor. But then he and the neighbor join up to bash on the grandma that butted in.
Reminds me of that one really bad Godzilla video that was floating around for a bit that the entire Godzilla community collectively agreed was ass. I don't actually know anything about it, I just know it had tons of responses and the original video's probably gone now.
Video was so bad ya'll didn't even waste a MINUTE! "I Never saw Cyborg or Static Shock as black characters!" The same damn cartoons that DEALT WITH RACISM Plots. Static Shock ESPECIALLY.
Interestingly that was the season's Kori episode in Teen Titans...and this is literally what Tamaraneans have to deal with when Blackfire, backstabbing royal court members like Xand'r/Brother Eternity and her Gordanean mooks aren't around in the comics...and Vic was like...alright we're letting your boyfriend know...and Kori tries to say wait, but Vic says...now. I'm also thinking the whole reason why Nightstar gets so much flack as a ship over NightOracle? Kori is both designed and written as an intergalactic black woman with long ginger hair...in love with a white man...and this is the interracial couple that is almost DC's second beta-couple outside of the Clois and Wally/Linda OTP's yet it gets dunked on because of some irritating Batfamily characters can only be with people from Gotham nonsense, especially when part of Nightwing's whole deal is he's like his Auntie Wonder Woman, half-Supes/half-Bat's and has his own city and own personality that has somehow turned into the 9th back alley of Gotham with a slightly happier Batman Jr. for no good reason. If Nightwing's best pal can have an interracial relationship...why can't he? *Yes Kori was always intended to be black, she's just as light as Trudy Proud.
I still love Cyborg's line that goes like "I know how it feels, I've always been hated ...because I'm a robot" brilliant bait and switch and a clever way to add comedy to a serious moment! OG Teen Titans really was special from writing to animation edit: the same clip was used in the video! told you it was great! I really love that episode, the antagonist is great too because he's not evil but he's an awful guy
First Cartoonshi, then Alpha Jay Show, and now MangaKamen came out to criticise this BS critique video. ASK Air totally screwed up. It'll be worse for him if SaberSpark also makes a video of it.
It’s because from what I’ve seen people see characters of a similar ilk with a different race (like Hazel and Miles Morales) as basically being “the same character but black” I’ve seen this both online and from family members.
Fun fact, he said it himself that he knows Hazel is not a raceswap but that he is critizing her because she's a black protagonist I am not making this up, this guy's brain is on the 1700s
I think the red flag wasnt JUST having Uncle Ruckus as his favorites, but him saying "I never saw them as Black Charactes" before having to immediately say "I love characters of ALL ethnicities" very much screams "Im not racist because I have friends who arent white!"
One of the characters he brings up as an example of black characters he likes, Static Shock, had his black identity as a major part of his character, there was a whole episode that was straight up about racism, so it’s kind of ironic how he could somehow ignore it there but can’t here
it's wild lmao, i'd have been more understanding if the topic of racism was completely untouched, but it wasn't. not that he'd know, he seems to have so little media literacy that even if it was laid out for him in baby terms, he'd miss it lol
A.S.K. Air's entire video sounds like a rant he made up in the shower, not something that should've put to video and posted for all to see. It's nothing but recycled talking points, assumptions, with a dash of ignorance and half cup of underlying racism.
@@matthewwilliams8267 True, the video is just him saying "They're disrespecful/unfaithful to the source material" while giving little to no examples on how.
The crazy thing is that hazel being black literally isnt even talked about in a new wish. Shes just a character tbat happens to be black. And shes a really good protagonist. I hate race swapping in media but he picked literally the worst example because it wasnt even a race swap!
That video is just insane. They could've just said "I don't like that New Wish" and left it that, even if it's an unpopular opinion but he had to make so many nothing excuses, borderline racist reasoning, disrespecting a dead man while victimizing the justifiable scapegoat for FOP's downfall, and then covering your ears when receiving pushback. Good way to kill your career.
I do understand the importance of that episode being about judging people by their race, but people can relate to episode like this and not be black. As a black man who's grown up with dealing with ignorance of different people. That episode can hit home for multiple people of different race and/or backgrounds. That's why static shock is so popular like spiderman.
That also goes for cyborg. Sorry, copy post it from a either video I commented cover the video. Also I hate how people undermind the saying "I don't see race" means there judging them by their character, like how MLK literally dead for🤦♂️
While true none of what you said takes away from the fact that the episode wouldn't work if Virgil/Static wasn't black or poc. He used the "I don't see race" card but brought up examples of characters who are very intentionally a certain race and examples of them alluding to or outright dealing with negatives that come with said ethnicity. Him ignoring those aspects of the character is basically saying "even if these guys are poc I don't have to think about it and can even pretend they aren't" which isn't a good take especially when trying to deny hating Chloe solely cuz she's black. Basically the "I don't see color" argument is doomed to fail every time cuz its rooted in the desire to ignore all color outright instead of just being cool with different ethnicitys.
@infinitezion2029 Granted, the part with Chloe was poorly done and should be criticized. That one of the best parts to this video. But saying that i don't see race is doomed to fail. Is like true stories like the freedom writers was a poor message because people in the story come together from different ethnicities to fine peace make the school better. Hell , one of the antagonists of a story was a white woman who thought the teacher was in the wrong for having the kids get chances because there from the hood or how Daryl Davis as able to have a KKK leader quite and help his community be a black man shows his beliefs were wrong. There's plenty of that are popular and untold. If that doesn't work for you, then whatever🤷♂️
Yes people can relate to the episode and not be black. That doesn't change the fact that the character is black, and was deliberately written with their race in mind, so saying "I don't see their race at all!" is pretty stupid. Being able to relate to a black character's storyline as a non-black person doesn't change that the character's blackness shapes who they are
Im seriously sick and tired of people saying "They made Timmy Turner black!" Hazel is a completely different character. A New Wish is not a reboot, It's a sequel series. One that desperately needed to happen because they ran the original show into the ground. And i know it's nostalgia talking, but don't parse Timmy. Timmy was a brat. I loved the show, but I hated Timmy.
I agree, but I'll be honest, as a black person. If I want representation based on my skin, I'd rather create A NEW CHARACTER that happens to be black than CHANGE RACE because it's cheap and lazy for having black representation. If you call me racist bc I didn't want the RACE CHANGE, now TRY TO THINK about this: If the original character was black and in movie changed his skin to be white, will get called out RACIST. But if the original was white and changed his skin to be black, won’t he be called racist??? Don't you see how stupid that is? I appreciate this show (the new wish) because it creates a new black character, not change Timmy’s skin. Yes I care about Black representation but change skin of original character isn’t POC representation.
@@littledog3553 you want representation? As someone who hates race swapping this firstly isn’t one. Secondly it’s stupid to see her as a race swap considering she doesn’t replaces a character. As such it’s not possible. Its also one of the better shows to show a „diverse“ new main character. She doesn’t resemble Timmy at all. Timmy isn’t a kid anymore. Hazel didn’t steal the Fearies. They could have done something more with Timmy to make him less flawed but a sequel is also ok
Because that video is just awful. Lack of research, little to no examples, points that were off topic (the voice actors and that Hailey Bailey can't sing), contradictions, repetation and really nasty things (that unfunny sarcastic joke about Tiana in the end and the offensive deleted Family Guy edit)
True, unlike Jar(Just a Robot) Kamen actively avoids these conversations, for obvious reasons. He's very non-political and I respect him for that. Just obviously, sometimes it's unavoidable like High Gardian Spice.
Some people think that the show must be a reboot with Timmy still as the main character and don't bother learning it's actually a sequel with a new kid.
A.S.K Air is clearly just a racist. It was evident by him calling Hazel "Black Timmy Turner" and complaining that "A New Wish" has a race-swapping problem when none of the characters in that show have been race-swapped, which also reveals that he likely didn't even watch the show, otherwise he would have noticed the many, many times other characters acknowledged the existence of Timmy Turner, showing that Hazel isn't a race-swapped Timmy.
My reply is not meant to counter your point as I fully agree with it. I will only add that whether people like it or not, North American culture is so imbued with both overt and subtle racist elements that even people who think they are not racist can actually be racist/prejudiced. I can tell this guy doesn't think he is racist because he's coming at it from a anti-woke/SJW mindset and using the color blind defense. Then again that Family Guy is more than enough for me not to defend him and simply just not watch his videos.
Not to mention him saying his never seen characters such as Cyborg and Static as “black” and for some weird reason added the comment of Halle Bailey and Zoe Zegler aren’t good singers which literally had no nothing to do with the topic of the video 💀

Anyways, I’ve heard this on Cartoonshi and Alpha Jay’s channels many times, and I need to say this here in regards to how that guy went after that show… A New Wish is NOT a reboot. It IS a sequel, since Timmy is occasionally mentioned, and… HAZEL IS DIFFERENT FROM TIMMY. Timmy’s life utterly sucked, with incompetent parents, awful teachers, and Vicky… just Vicky. Hazel is a more down to earth character who, before running afoul of Vicky, had to deal with more relatable issues. Oh, and her parents love her and her teacher tries to help her to the best of his ability. Long story short, you can have an opinion on Hazel, but know that she isn’t a new version of Timmy, she’s actually a person who lives in the world that Timmy lived in, who just so happens to be Cosmo and Wanda’s next god-kid!

It unintentionally flattens the stakes to the floor and makes it pointless because even if “this” character dies, there’s literally billions of them out there. The story never ends. And that’s a bad thing, imo. Multiverses should stay in the realm of fanfiction. I hate’em.

I do find it funny that of the 3 character he brings up getting "race swapped" not only is Timmy incorrect, but April O'Neil is probably the 2nd most debated "race swapped" characters people bring up. Admittedly she wasn't ever black, bad faith actors just showed cherry picked images from the comics from after she got a perm, and people who don't know better look at this one image of what is ironically probably the palest she pretty much ever looks on the comics' covers and were like "oh, yeah, she is black" because of the perm. In the actual comic pages in black and white admittedly makes her kinda look black until she's next to a black character, where it becomes obvious that they actually color in black people's skin. (it has also been confirmed by people who worker on the comics that she was never intended to come across as anything but white) The only worse example I know of he could highlighted of the list he showed would be Starfire in Titans who has literally always been an yellow or orange skinned alien, not a white person. If anything Blackfire got whitewashed in Teen Titans Go, which was admittedly was to make it more visually obvious to children who was who, since they wear the same outfit and dye their hair to match the first episode she appeared.

10:10 What's funny about his comment on the Lion King remake (to me, at least) is that I feel like it'd have been more interesting if they _had_ made it some kind of fake nature documentary retelling the original film's story. The actual remake (from what I can tell, I don't care enough to watch it) just seems to be the original film with a couple of new scenes added in, different voice actors, and less appealing animation.

1:30 A lack of research. Reminds me of when I made that commentary on Dobbs' Top 10 Biggest Pokemon knockoff list. Course a lack of research wasn't really my biggest problem with that video, it's the fact that he passed it off as a subjective issue when you can scientifically quantify how big of a knockoff something is and how he put _straight up bootlegs_ in lower positions on the list than they deserved. Even Robopon didn't deserve to be put above Pokemon "Vietnamese" Crystal (which I since learned actually came from China).
Just because YOU don't see race doesn't mean other people don't. It matters more than just being a cosmetic quality to a character. In a perfect world it wouldn't but unfortunately we don't live a perfect world
Exactly. Like it or not, race IS important to a lot of characters (and REAL PEOPLE!) and you can’t just look past it. Dismissing it isn’t a good look. People think saying “I don’t see color” isn’t harmful, but it loops right back to being racist. You can’t just say “I am actively ignoring the metaphors for racial injustice. I don’t care about them and they don’t matter to me. I am not going to listen to this because it doesn’t affect me.” That’s not as innocent as people think it is.
That clip of Static talking about how good it feels to see another black role model/hero out there really kinda hit with me. Growing up black I always felt like I couldn't fit in the media I liked, and I always did feel a little happier seeing characters like Cyborg, Bumblebee, Susie, Number 5, Libby, Vince, and so much more. It felt like I could actually exist, despite how little that group of characters were. I'm an artist so I do one day want to make a mark on this world, and one day I hope I can do the same for other people who want to see themselves too. Nothing wrong with the characters I grew up with that weren't my color, I love them too, but it's just something else being able to see people like you exist as a kid that feels impactful.
@@pillowmoment This. Ignoring a characters race is equal to ignoring their personality or even clothing style and features..you might as well not care about anything. Each race has their own individual struggles, which can be showed off in an episode or several or even the whole series..it impacts how other characters interact with you, how you live, it impacts everything just like how your gender matters! Growing up as a boy is very different from growing up as a girl. Ignoring those struggles and differences is harmful.

Static, yes, but Cyborg was never a "black" character, as in, the show nor the character never focused on his race. He was a character who happened to be black. Even the "I'm part robot" line isn't just the writers dodging a bullet. Yes, most people think Cyborg would obviously say something about his race when Starfire asked him about prejudice, but the line actually makes sense to the character because Cyborg never experienced prejudice in regards to his race. Before his accident, he was a beloved athlete that was constantly praised. He only experienced prejudice after he became part robot, specifically because of that reason. If Cyborg had said "Of course I do, I'm black" that would not only get the show in hot water and make no sense to Starfire who doesn't see race, but would just be false to the character.
" If Cyborg had said "Of course I have, I'm black" that would not only get the show in hot water, but would just be false to the character." I mean, I think that's part of the reason why they did take the robot route there, especially since again in that scene, Starfire was specifically talking about her race of people. I'd say it's more like an allusion so they could make that point in that regard.
@@Mangakamen My view on this is somewhere between yours and Shady Doorags'. I don't think that one episode would have worked as well if Cyborg wasn't black because it subverts what people expect from a "racism PSA" episode by not only making someone other than the black guy receive the prejudice, but also having the black guy be ignorant of prejudice against his friend. That said, I wouldn't call Cyborg a "black" character outside of that one episode. In every other episode in the series, his race is incidental and never brought up. Most people in TT '03, even the villains, care more about who's good and who's evil than they do about anyone's race.
Also you can tell his argument is terrible because he's using the "Red Head Replacement" Chart. For those that don't know, there's been this trend where red-headed characters get swapped with Black characters Many toss it off as a conspiricy nonsense, like with April O'neal due to her original mixed-race origins, but there is at least some proof of Hollywood taking that route, like how Starfire is actually based on Latina women but they made her black in the Titan's CW show because they didn't do their research But with, A New Wish, that argument doesn't work because, like Manga said, Timmy is already established and the world of FOP is heavily celebrated within the show itself, nevermind the fact that the Red Head chart is related to a differnt cultural topic entirely (i.e. the Irish, Annie, etc.)! You can't use that as evidence when its not even being used correctly
Her design was mostly based off a specific Latina woman, Iris Chacon. Iris Chacon is still white. Latino is a geographical group… Not a racial one. White latinos, black latinos, brown latinos, all of these exist.
@anubis7457 Yeah, I know, but it was still a good opportunity to cast a Latina regardless, especially since even though Iris is white, Starfire is orange and could've worked with that But remember this is the CW who loves to stereotype POC and LGBT into segregated roles, and most likely aren't thinking as hard as you and me

Good way to kill your career.
Lord have mercy cause the internet is having none of it!
@infinitezion2029
Granted, the part with Chloe was poorly done and should be criticized.
A good story is a good story, even if you can't relate.
It’s because she resembles Timmy Turner enough for people to see her as a race swap. I’ve seen the same thing happen to Miles Morales.
Hazel is a more down to earth character who, before running afoul of Vicky, had to deal with more relatable issues. Oh, and her parents love her and her teacher tries to help her to the best of his ability.

Superman is a nazi now? Multiverse. Batman is the Joker? Multiverse. Joker is the Batman? Multiverse.
It can get some interesting “what if” scenarios, but frankly I’m tired of the multiverse. It unintentionally flattens the stakes to the floor and makes it pointless because even if “this” character dies, there’s literally billions of them out there. The story never ends. And that’s a bad thing, imo.
Multiverses should stay in the realm of fanfiction. I hate’em.
And I thought Phantomstrider's worst cartoon reboots video was bad (As you pointed out in the past he called Extreme Ghostbusters a remake even though it was a continuation of The Real Ghostbusters with them coming back for the show's finale Back In The Saddle)

I think uncle ruckus is a great character for the boondocks. It’s helps show another aspect of the black community and his usage it’s great plus he’s funny and if someone said he was their favorite I’d sorta understand. But in context if this video it’s not a good look
8:48 No way he actually said that April being black hinders the episode quality. No way nuh uh. April being black literally doesn’t do anything to the show’s quality??? And the show for the record has great quality. It’s my favorite show right after invader zim. ROTTMNT is a masterpiece of animation, writing and humor and if this dude actually watched the show I would be surprised.
This is the equivalent of Doktor Skipper's video about Godzilla.
Thank you for using the Amanda clip. Static literally goes to Africa and says “in Africa I’m not seen as a Black kid, over here I’m just a kid”.
(it has also been confirmed by people who worker on the comics that she was never intended to come across as anything but white)
The only worse example I know of he could highlighted of the list he showed would be Starfire in Titans who has literally always been an yellow or orange skinned alien, not a white person. If anything Blackfire got whitewashed in Teen Titans Go, which was admittedly was to make it more visually obvious to children who was who, since they wear the same outfit and dye their hair to match the first episode she appeared.
Atp "woke" just means "anything slightly diverse that i personally don't like"
huh never knew Hazel Wells was a race-swap and gender-bend Timmy Turner, since she looks and acts NOTHING like Timmy but i guess being a kid with two fairies is enough to be Timmy

What's funny about his comment on the Lion King remake (to me, at least) is that I feel like it'd have been more interesting if they _had_ made it some kind of fake nature documentary retelling the original film's story. The actual remake (from what I can tell, I don't care enough to watch it) just seems to be the original film with a couple of new scenes added in, different voice actors, and less appealing animation.
You gotta love how he says Lion King *remake* and then a few seconds later he calls it Lion King *reboot*

It's quite clear that AIR didn't think this through while making the video... And damn Kamen, didn't know your sona is JACKED.
I agree on the context that you don't care but call it out when someone else does if you start this on your own your the problem
But they DON'T ignore actions and personality, just race..why is that? Because they're racist and don't realize it. Race impacts the story and characters A LOT!
@@testerwulf3357 And growing up Asian in America is different from growing up Asian in an Asian country. Yet if I watch a K-drama and don't actively consider the fact that every single character is Korean... I might as well not care about the characters at all, according to you. Yours is a more America-centric perspective than you may realize. I'll stick to letting context decide how relevant a character's ethnicity truly is.
Wow, flashback to the old days of SkullKamen. Hope you regain back some sanity back MangaKamen.
i'm really glad that i found these videos because i thought that the 'stephan hillenburg didn't want spinoffs' argument was proven true and i never thought to check 😭 really thankful i didn't bring it up anywhere or anything
" If Cyborg had said "Of course I have, I'm black" that would not only get the show in hot water, but would just be false to the character."
I mean, I think that's part of the reason why they did take the robot route there, especially since again in that scene, Starfire was specifically talking about her race of people. I'd say it's more like an allusion so they could make that point in that regard.
Im fav cartoon youtubers, i bend thy knee to you
Eyeah but it was obviously it was a race metaphor as the whole episode theme was about racism!
@@RaidenNinBrovo, my good sir. You got how applicable prejudice actually works in all scenarios.
When your video is so bad it’s brings commentary kamen out of retirement
Not this all over again. This like just happened with Godzilla Minus One
"Timmy Turner" and it's a whole new character
Hazel isn’t Timmy Turner.
Oh boy even MangaKamen got involved >_
12:38 I was already planning on watching Gavv but thanks for reminding me kamen!
bro is getting JUMPED by the whole commentary community and I’m here for it tbh
Also you can tell his argument is terrible because he's using the "Red Head Replacement" Chart. For those that don't know, there's been this trend where red-headed characters get swapped with Black characters
Many toss it off as a conspiricy nonsense, like with April O'neal due to her original mixed-race origins, but there is at least some proof of Hollywood taking that route, like how Starfire is actually based on Latina women but they made her black in the Titan's CW show because they didn't do their research
But with, A New Wish, that argument doesn't work because, like Manga said, Timmy is already established and the world of FOP is heavily celebrated within the show itself, nevermind the fact that the Red Head chart is related to a differnt cultural topic entirely (i.e. the Irish, Annie, etc.)! You can't use that as evidence when its not even being used correctly
Her design was mostly based off a specific Latina woman, Iris Chacon.
Iris Chacon is still white. Latino is a geographical group… Not a racial one. White latinos, black latinos, brown latinos, all of these exist.
@anubis7457 Yeah, I know, but it was still a good opportunity to cast a Latina regardless, especially since even though Iris is white, Starfire is orange and could've worked with that
But remember this is the CW who loves to stereotype POC and LGBT into segregated roles, and most likely aren't thinking as hard as you and me

In this case, because it is a completely seperate character, he is outright wrong from the start. It's a situation like Peter Parker and Miles Morales. Simple as that. Miles Morales is very much used for disingenuous political propaganda but the fact remains he is a different character and not a race swap.
