    Great video Jason... I’ve ran a 7290R with a Pottengier butterfly mower. That was in the neighborhood of 35’-40’. What a mower that was.... I can mow roughly 250 acres per day.

    Not often that you see a 2 wheel drive late model cab tractor now. That John Deere must be one of the 6R series that was tedding the hay. Always have some good videos to watch on this channel.

    Wow. I used to make hay when I was younger but I didn't spend two million dollars to do it. I would really like to see the numbers that this farmer works with. That would be very interesting. Maybe you could interview a John Deere salesman and see what we could learn.

      He’s a dairy farmer not a hay salesman… cows will pay for it. You can cut 30 acres an hour with that triple mower alone, so I’m guessing he’s running a lot of acreage.

      Alfalfa lasts about 5 years. After that it thins out and is not productive. The farm will harvest this field one more time in June and then plant sorghum. Alfalfa helps fix nitrogen to the soil and enriches the soil. Next year wheat will be planted and soybeans will follow. Then corn will follow. Wheat/soybeans and corn will rotate on this field for a few years and then it will go back into alfalfa

      Victor Bonnast
      I think the weight is the main difference. They can be equipped differently and are therefore more suitable for certain jobs. the lightest tractor will have advantages in terms of handling and maneuverability, since it is probably smaller. but he can lift or pull less because the limits of the load capacity are reached earlier. neither will he be as strong as his heavier brothers. i'm not a john deere specialist, but i think that's how it will be.

    I used to cut hay. We had a rotating mower that let down on the side. Kinda like the single in this video but no wheels. It was worn out by the end of summer and had cut part of the cover off of it. We did not have a cab tractor. It would sling cow shit all over the tractor, and you. .... but as much as you had to watch for rocks and other things to keep from tearing up the mower... I can’t imagine trying to mow with a mower like that on the front of ur tractor.

    • @carmfarm5
      @carmfarm5 4 роки тому

      The MoCo mows and conditions (crimps) the hay so it dries faster. The other one just mows quite a bit quicker

    • @sstroh08
      @sstroh08 4 роки тому +2

      @@carmfarm5 No the triple mowers have flail conditioners too. Personally I'd figure it's just different strokes for different folks. The triples are a little faster but need a bigger tractor and cost more and also are far more complicated. The center pivot mower is much cheaper and doesn't need as much power and simpler, but is slower and lore awkward to mow with. Just have to decide what's best for your operation really.
