    The small private airline may be a way to shelter (about 3+ Billion). Airlines don't buy aircraft, they lease them (often with 2 or 3 layers of holding and leases).

    That beacon might be used because the low tech drone can't be reliably tracked but when the operators see a target of interest they might drop the beacon to mark the spot so they can zero in on the drones contact location.

    Your aviation experts comments are quite interesting!
    The aircraft was delivered in 2009 onto the Isle of Man register, for the owner (probably why you have the A logo). To be managed by a management company, Any aircraft on this register can not be chartered and must be used for private use.
    In 2019 after 10 years private use and tax amortisation (large costs arise due to mandatory airframe checks etc) so ownership probably transferred on a peppercorn basis and management is transferred to Maltese registry which allow the aircraft to be chartered on the management companies sister companies AOC (Air Operating Certificate). In 2021 the aircraft was transferred to Luxembourg registry under same management on another sister companies AOC as travel was easier in mainland Europe at that time.
    Pure economics… similar to the maritime yacht management companies with the same client base !

    If the boat at Colwyn had no personal items aboard and the bimini was all zipped up then you could assume that they had departed in an orderly fashion. Why the boat was adrift is another matter.

    That James bond yacht should have 2 gps receivers. And the ECDIS would warn the operator if GPS1 and GPS2 show different position. And another thing, being so close to land they should revive DGPS signals. Which has an accuracy about 10 meters.

This should be just destroyed or put underground for future, if they need some info from it. When some war is going on, there's happening a lot, some times you don't know does some random thing is enemy's or your own guys much needed system. This is most digital and chaotic war ever before. There's many nuclear risks waiting to happen. Bombing hospital could put radiological sources free and I don't even need to say anything about Europe's biggest nuclear facility. As with vessel's, all aircraft are also required to carry an ELT (emergency location transmitter) which is almost identical to the EPRB you are familiar with. Though the unit you showed here is most likely used for low tech target locating. Also, the red light does indicate it is activated, but an aircraft ELT is designed to activate upon impact or manually. Being dropped from an aircraft would automatically activate the unit.

    As far as GPS systems go, it could be a software glitch or a error on the boat's side. My phone's GPS for the last month has put me about 2-3 car lanes to the right of where I'm driving. I've done the recalibrating of it and it still happens. I'll start off in the correct spot, but once I've traveled about 1,000 feet, my position jumps to the right. It becomes very annoying when I'm on the highway looking for a fast route and the GPS thinks I'm on the service road, or if I'm on an elevated highway and it thinks I'm on the split/neighboring highway that's at ground level.
    I would think a superyacht's GPS software would be better than the one in my phone, but who knows?

    One reason they may believe the people got safely off the yacht is if they have multiple independent sightings for 4 people getting off the boat (into a tender for instance). They have information that 4 people were on the boat. Why can't they have information that those people got off the boat, even if they don't know the identities of the people.

    As far as the GPS is concerned anybody that has used a GPS driven plotter will testify that erroneous plots do happen, just look at current course indications on a chartplotter...they wave around quite a lot so it is not impossible for a navigation system to give incorrect course data, usually only for a few seconds but if the receiver receives a bad plot and then nothing the Captains story might have merit.

    @eSysman SuperYachts I repeat from the previous video: The plane is still his. As you can see the plane has been operated by global jet since 2009 (Gloabl jet austria is basically just an office with the minimum staff required by the austrian authorities to operate (the director is in luxembourg most of the time. It is the same company and most of the management is done by globaljet Luxembourg). Jet aviation is a maintenance organisation so the plane was likely there for major refurbishment (mainly used by global jet in switzerland (basel-mulhouse europort)) and the operator changed for that period.
    M-YBBJ was a "private use" only organisation. Being LX registered means global jet took it on as a "comnmercial" aircraft. It doesn't mean anyone can charter it, just that the way money goes through is "like" an charter. Abrahamovic has/had most of his Falcon and gulfstream jets like that and only he used them: LX-GVI G-650, LX-MES F7x "mini bandit" to the P4-MES 767 "bandit", LX-RAY, another g-650, LX-lux Global 6000, he also has a 787 dreamliner P4-BDL .

  • @medea27
    @medea27 Рік тому +3

    What the 007 captain is describing sounds more like a GoogleMaps problem... in areas with a poor satellite connection you'll often have your mobile phone or car sat-nav pin you anywhere up to 50-100m from your actual location. I wonder if they were trying to use GPS on a phone or tablet for some reason, maybe the boat's system stopped working and they thought other devices could give them an accurate location given their proximity to land. I've had GoogleMaps tell me I was driving in the ocean 100m off the coast from the highway I was actually driving down.
    And with the abandoned boat, I wonder if the 4 men were picked up by another boat/ship which was heading into a poor comms area (like a deep sea fishing vessel)... the Coast Guard may be waiting for the boat to radio & confirm they have the men aboard, or for one of the men to call his family directly. It's unlikely the Coast Guard would undertake a costly rescue if the men are safe on another boat.

    I had a handheld GPS device malfunction(i don't recall if it was the coordinates, map, or compass direction), luckily it was obvious and we just ignored it and used dead reckoning, paper maps, and compasses. You'd think it'd be all or nothing but I guess not always. Also had a sat phone fail to connect on the same trip. I think this was before the GPS got the more accurate readings. It was at high latitude and I don't think either was communicating with enough satellites.

    • @JointerMark
      @JointerMark Рік тому

      Yes, GPS signal can be attenuated by local environmental features, or by physical damage to the receiver. Anything that affects how the GPS is able to calculate the time/location solution may affect the accuracy and precision of the location data. How much of this error is filtered out greatly depends on the supporting software and of course the users ability to validate that what data the GPS is presenting is 'reasonable'.

    With the crewless boat in Wales, people probably saw the people row ashore, swim ashore or whatever and then the people just melded in with other people, maybe took a bus somewhere or what ever. If law enforcement didn't see them, no one else would stop them or anything so I'm assuming people saw them come ashore which is why they know there were 4 of them.

  • @moodberry
    @moodberry Рік тому +1

    The Russian EPIRB story is interesting. You mentioned correctly that it broadcasts on 406 and 121.5 MHz. The EPIRBS that use GPS can identify the location down to a few meters, but only on the 406 frequency, since that one communicates with satellites. The 121.5 signal, OTOH, can only get your position within about 12 sq. miles. You also said this older model does not have GPS< which means it only sends a signal saying "I am in distress but I can't tell you where I am"
    Why would the Russians do this? Well, since it does have 121.5, that signal can be triangulated with a hand held antenna. I have done this myself on the 121.5 band and if you go to the trouble of sending someone out in the field with this locator antenna, they can find you pretty easily. As you said, turn it off! Hopefully the Ukrainians turned it off as soon as they found it and before the Russians sent out someone to find it.

    I have an open question, so anyone can answer. But if you extend a yacht, does that introduce stability issues? It's easy to lengthen a vessel, but increasing its beam is well nigh impossible. I would think the longer they extend a vessel, the more unstable it becomes? Yes? No?

    • @Finderskeepers.
      @Finderskeepers. Рік тому

      Its specific to the boat but generally increasing length doesnt make a difference to stability per say subject to weight distribution.Stability is all about beam and draft. Im more concerned by the fact your asking. It will affect how the boat handles and may change stress elsewhere on the boat which could cause issues.

      @@Finderskeepers. Really? A 100 ft x 30 ft boat gets hit broadside by a huge wave, and survives. But an extended boat to 140 ft x 30 ft gets hit by same wave. They both have the same beam, but the longer vessel gets hit over a much larger area. IDK, I'd much rather be on that 100 footer. /shrug

    Cool "YotSpot" is on! M/Y Aquasition? Hmmm, ya know, if a person were to say that a certain way, especially while in certain company, certain people might interpret that in a certain way. You know, if you were in a certain place, especially if it's at a certain time. Heh, heh, I'm just messin' around. She's a real looker, nice catch!
    Really!? Airplane "A" isn't from the same stable as M/Y A and S/Y A? Well, as if the name "A" isn't enough to cause confusion, certainly the font, colours, and placement of the stylized logo "A" make the confusion not only forgivable but understandable as well. From now on I'm just gonna keep the name of those vessels "out my frickin' mouth" heh, heh (sorry, I had to take the easy shot). As per usual, eSysman gets to the simple facts of the matter and sets us straight, thanks for that!
    I swear, as soon as I saw that locater beacon I thought to myself, "Ol' Vlad is equipping his soldiers with stuff from a surplus auction.". Then, when it was said the beacons were not even GPS equipped, we realized why they were in a surplus auction heh, heh. So is Putin so cheap he puts his people in a compromised position with inappropriate equipment? Is he also so delusional he's expecting miracles from those compromised troops? Perhaps he (or someone else with the authority?) took a calculated risk to use the sub-par gear because he has zero respect for the Ukrainians and expected his people to do "well enough" with what he gave them. There are a lot of moving parts to that operation, if Putin chooses to place the blame on one of his officers and then punish that officer, it could be the beginning of his undoing. Highly ranked men of rational logic are not going to put themselves in a position of ridicule and disrespect for their history books. It's details like this that can begin to undermine a leader's authority, cause a loss of respect from their subordinates, and possibly even get them turned over to the International Criminal Court for war crimes. Putin needs to be careful of where he stands if he's gonna push his own people under a bus, there are more of them and eventually they're gonna make a decision that changes history. It could happen.
    If I am understanding this, the authorities in Wales have taken the position that the people who were on the Phoenix Hardy need to contact them if they are alive and well, is that it? Are we to assume that if they are not heard from they will be considered lost at sea and soon to be declared dead? A conspiracy theorist with a blog could go bananas with a little bit of information like that. Hahahaaa!
    So much goes on in this world of superyachts that I actually forgot about M/Y 007 until this update. The owner appears to be doing his utmost to make things look shady, so is he deliberately causing a distraction, have I become ridiculously suspicious, does this sentence seem like the ones they said at the end of every episode of "Soap" about a hundred years ago? Heh, heh. I have a bit of history with "007" because when I was six we moved to a different town and got a new phone number (landline, I'm an old fart) with the last four digits being 5-0-0-7. As I got a bit older I realized the "slick gift" I had been given so from then until I moved outta Mom and Dad's I would say my number was, "...blah, blah, blah-5-James Bond.". Oh yeah. I was THAT cool haaaahaha! Oh well, at least they got it set upright and appear to be making some motions that indicate they're gonna get the mess outta there. It doesn't matter how big and nice they are when the hull has been breached and they're layin' on their side in the shallows, they become "that mess" and "that junk". I think that if I were an oligarch and my superyacht ran aground, took on water, and was layin' over I'd arrange a secret, temporary abduction of my crew, report them, and my yacht missing and prepare to make statements and insurance claims haaahahaaa! It is quite bad that it was left there for so long and I doubt if there are charges forthcoming.
    When I read those "prize" and other obvious scam comments I always take three seconds to report them. I figure if enough of us report them they'll just move along to another channel. I'm not a hacker and I can't mess with them the way some people do so I get my jollies outta doin' that, I just sit on the middle of the floor, rockin' back and forth, and cackling like I've got a cauldron fulla kid bits haaahahaaa! Seriously, though, I do report some every day, but I haven't simmered kids since I sold my old cottage to a land developer. It just isn't the same if it isn't done over the hearth in a dimly lit room. 🥴
    Once again, the eSysman team has my compliments as well as my thanks for continuing to produce and publish a very high-caliber product. I consider this UA-cam channel to be part of my daily news intake and I enjoy my time spent here a whole lot more than watching regular network news heh, heh. Keep on keepin' on, folks.

    i started using GPS for high accuracy in 2000 and at certain times of the day it diddent work you would get low accuracy as satelites would come and go you could print a schedule and know when that would happen but today there are so many satelites that it's not a issue anymore and hasen't been for a long time funny story we would trade are systems in for new upgraded modles and there supposed to be destroyed but a few months later we find are old systems for sale in china.

    Perhaps that yacht was subject to GPS spoofing attack? That definitely can put you off course. And it might be slightly easier to pull it off if you damage the antenna or the coax, but then an insurance job seems more likely when considering the condition of the vessel. Given how much longer they made that thing I bet it rolled something awful and nothing but more beam would have fixed it.

    GPS as a system calculates position using the differences in time delay for signals received from multiple satellites by one antenna. It calculates the position of the phase center of the antenna no matter what you do to the antenna. It can give the user a different position if a position offset is entered into the navigation software. All that a damaged antenna can do is reduce the precision by small amounts, single digit meters maybe, double digit centimeters more likely. More damage than that would mean the GPS hasn't the foggiest idea where it is and other forms of navigation would have to be used. In other words, it appears to me (a former GPS satellite subsystem for several subsystems designer) that this gentleman has more to explain.

    Birds could broke those GPS antennas and when pilot dosen't know what to do, it turn off and stop that ship usually. (Aircrafts keep flying same altitude and course same scenario). Then it start to move on rocks if there's no one doing right things.
    If you lost too many satellites, GPS Indeed could show wrong point. It depends how it's programmed, does it react too fast impossible changes.
