Thanks for replying about the broken adjustment screw, I accidentally deleted my comment which also deleted yours as well sorry about that. To confirm, what you recommended was to use belt removal bolt to relax tension on the helix, remove broken set screw, replace broken set screw, then adjust as normal. Is this correct? Thanks again for taking the time to answer.
My adjustment screw is rusted in, spins when loosening the jam nut. Can I spray it with penetrating oil and try in the morning or is it broken off inside?
sounds like it's stripped out. You can try loosening the jam nut to the point that you can get a screwdriver underneath it and pry up against it as you're trying to back out the screw.
my belt is lying low as yours was in the beginning of the video and it is like on cruise control when I start the sled and the belt squeals. If I move the belt up like you did wont it make it tighter and move on its own more ?
Correct. If it’s already squealing and creeping. The belt is already too tight. I would double check to make sure you have the correct belt on it and it’s not too short.

My 1990 Polaris trailblazer takes off when you start it up. It has this clutch setup and a forward only trans. I have been locking the brake at idle to negate this issue, what is causing the belt to not disengage? I can see the clutches spinning as I roll the quad

I have never seen one of those secondaries like that. I guess that's because the newest sled I've ever owned was a '97. That is a neat way to adjust for belt wear, cool.
Sir I have a question on my 2006 Polaris fusion 700. There is a loud squeaky sound coming from the belt clutch area every time it is on idol. I was wondering if you would be able to help me out with some tips. Thank you!
Good afternoon I have a 2010 polaris 600 iq touring, the problem I have is I changed my belt and every time it gets to tight and makes noise when I have the breaks on, and I've left the belt so lose that when I go to start it and give it gas while the back end is in the air it comes so tight still that it turns by itself when I don't even give it gas. Is there a way I can send you a video of my problem I'm having
@@waynebaron3180 Ok. Couple of things. Idle should be around 1500 rpm. If the belt is squealing on the primary at idle then it’s too tight. Plain and simple. Too loosen the belt. I have a brand NEW belt that I regret to put on because of this PROBLEM. -HELP I NEED TO FIX THIS PROBLEM RIGHT AWAY. - Thank you -
You either have an issue with the primary or secondary clutches. Either the primary is stuck open or the secondary is. When this happens, it simulates the sled is in the wrong "gear"
My trail touring 550 does something where I'll loosen the secondary clutch, and when I start it it tightens up until its spinning with the primary, I got the back of it propped up so it won't take off when I start it
My sled runs good when their isn’t a load and the track is off the ground but when I get on it the belt just smokes and it was adjusted just like yours what happening
sounds like you have binding in the driveline somewhere. You'll need to check the track for any bad bearings, broken slides etc. Something is preventing the track from spinning, which is why the belt in smoking . Check the parking brake, chaincase and pto drive shaft bearing too.
+Butch Clark The washers on the backside of the secondary? Those eliminate the amount of float on the jackshaft and helps the center to center alignment between the clutches. How many miles on the drive belt?
+Butch Clark It could as simple as a worn belt. As the belt wears, material is lost on the sides of it. Making it narrower and sit lower in the secondary. If you have a new belt I would try putting it in and adjust the belt deflection again.
Super helpful video! I had to make a trailside adjustment, and your video got me back on the trail. Thanks!

Yes. That’s it.
Changing the belt is a lot easier with the newer secondary clutches too!
Without a doubt. I can remember the days of having someone hold the back of the sled up on the trail after blowing a belt.
It's a lot easier to change the belt with these secondaries until you strip out the threads on the secondary

nope mine don't have a three bolt ring like in 94 and 95.Does this mean no adjustment on a 92?
tony37725 the older ones i think has schims in the middle to adjust them so you need to take it apart

Couple of things it could be.
1. Belt Deflection is too tight
2. Wrong Size Belt
3. Primary is not opening all of the way and is partially engaged.
@@StreetersGarage you’re cool man thanks
Thanks. Good luck!
Was Wondering if I am supposed to Tighten up my drive belt bolt or am I supposed to have about an 8th play in it ?
The secondary will slide on the jack shaft after you tighten down the bolt. This is what’s referred to as a floating secondary. Completely normal.

How do I correct this, the primary moves back & forth, replace clutch or rebuild or clean with brake cleaner &3M pad
Probably needs a new primary spring and rollers need to be replaced. You would need to remove the primary and secondary and get them serviced.

Streeter have you ever seen a belt flip itself inside out?
I've never seen it myself, but I've heard of it happening. From what I've read, it's caused by clutch misalignment or bad motor mounts.
I have an older style secondary with 3 bolts and my belt backside is smooth, so the belt should be flush with the secondary?
Thanks!
You’re Welcome
My secondary moves back and forth as a whole a little is that normal?
Yes. They’re designed to float on the jack shaft.
Thanks I thought so but I wanted to be sure, I'm new to owning a sled. 👍
No problem. A little bit of float is normal

do you know what could cause the bolt and washers that hold the secondary on to come un done and fall out?
+Ben Moore
Are you talking about the bolt that holds the secondary onto the jackshaft?
Streeters Garage yes the bolt that runs threw the center with all the washers on it
+Ben Moore
If it fell out, either it was never torqued down or the threads are stripped.
Streeters Garage threads on the bolt looked good hopfully there good in the jackshaft too got it back together and tightened thabjs for the input.

No problem.. Good luck and thanks for watching and please subscribe!
1999 has a different adjustment cover, it doesn’t have a nut and alan rinch
Correct should be a rotary style with positions 1-5.
not on a 1999 polaris, how to on that year???
There’s a dial on the secondary. Labeled 1-5. You would loosen the jam nuts and rotate the dial to increase/decrease belt deflection
I tried that and the the belt wouldn't tighten. Had to remove the center bolt and one of the thin washers.
+Butch Clark
The washers on the backside of the secondary? Those eliminate the amount of float on the jackshaft and helps the center to center alignment between the clutches.
How many miles on the drive belt?
2000. The secondary clutch.

Bummer he didn’t actually show it being adjusted
loosen the jam nut and turn it in to loosen the belt and back out to tighten.
Yeah kinda dumb to leave out that important part.
I don't see an adjust screw on my secondary.
What year / model is your sled?
Why didn't he show him actually doing the adjustment? that's the whole point of the video
Turn it in to increase deflection.
Back it out to decrease deflection
What was the point of this? He doesn’t actually show us how to do this.
Take the scotch brite and rub it across the faces until there's no residue and the surface is uniform, clean with brake cleaner when complete.
You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it does.
