Sad to say, I usually forget about Eastwood although they are well-reviewed in any of the videos I've seen. Nice to get the opinion of someone you know isn't getting paid for it, thanks Mark.

Don't need to watch you unbox it - waste of time... I have almost a dozen Eastwoods, and love them all - the Classic 12 was one of my first. Sounds like a Rick, plays soo easy - like to play all the Byrds and Petty tunes on it))

    • @8MinuteAxe
      @8MinuteAxe  2 роки тому

Hey Ed. I'm with you on the unboxing but some people really enjoy it. I've done 7 total guitar reviews and this is the second time I've done the unboxing. I used the FF on both (neither lasts more than a minute). I only kept this one because I thought my inability to get the box open was funny. Anyway, I am with you. Who cares about opening a box. There are channels that have 100k subs that only do that. Perhaps even more ridiculous is the reaction video. Why would I care how much some random person likes or doesnt like a song? I dont get it. Anyway, I do appreciate your time and I'm glad you got something out of the video. Have a great week and take care. Mark

Sounds really nice. Is it much better than the Harley Benton? Have you tried the Burns Double Six? Richard Bennett, Mark Knopfler's sideman plays one on "Cleaning My Gun" on Knopfler's Get Lucky album. It sounds really good and is reasonably affordable.

Hey Timmy. This one has a tone that I just love. The tone I used on the first couple of chords and then on the riff to Look Through Any Window is as perfect a 12 string tone as I can get. IMHO. Thanks so much. Please take care. Mark

I cannot help but wonder just how this guitar would compare to similar ones made by the same firm. Knowing that the guitar will be used for a UA-cam demonstration for (possibly) thousands of viewers (read: potential buyers), I would expect the manufacturer to ensure that every aspect of the “loaner” represents the best that the firm can produce. That does not mean that when others buy the same product the quality will be less; still, the review would carry much more weight with me if had been a random sale to no one in particular. That said, I will add that the fact that the firm’s owner can be contacted by email or telephone.

What a find. Great guitar Mark. Eastwood have been on my radar for some time, though not for a 12. I have searched for a H77 model 6 string to the point of exhaustion. I located a used one in Japan only to see it scooped by another buyer while I was getting my CC out. Eastwood had released the model with different designations over a period of time, marketing it as Eastwood H77, Eastwood H77 H78, and Harmony H77. All these were vintage designations, and I believed they were only available in the used market. After your tip off about their website, I rushed to it and found the exact model I had searched for, available new as an Airline H78. It has the busiest deck in the music biz, with 3 individually switchable single coils, hooked to three switches on the lower horn, and 6 (count 'em!) tone and volume knobs. Also equipped with a Bigsby trem. I'll be as busy as a one armed fiddler. As I hadn't been able to locate a 3 PU 6 string guitar at a budget price, I eventually settled for a Gretsch G2627T in the used market. I'm happy with the purchase and scooped it for US$420 after some spirited negotiations. Now however, after finding exactly what I was looking for, I've picked one from the 3 available colors, and will sit back and wait for it to arrive. Sell the Gretsch? No way Jose! It is a beautiful instrument in its own right. Buy one of these 12s? Well, having bought a new D'Angelico 12 in September last year, (the Turquoise thing in my avatar) and a new Hagstrom Viking 12 eight weeks ago, I might have to wait a while. The vortex has been especially strong this year. They should publish warnings about it like they do for El Nino events. LOL! I emailed Hagstrom about your channel and suggested they send you a demo model Viking 12 for a review. Hope you don't mind, but you're the only person on ytube doing specialist 12 string reviews.

Once Michael sees how loyal my channel viewers are, I think he'll send me a couple more. I wouldn't be surprised if he sells 50 guitars between now and Christmas from this video. Probably more. 👍🏻 I found a used one that was in pretty good condition in their "Fireburst" finish. (I'm still confused with the large knob ...it just doesn't seem to work like "tone controls" that I'm used to.) I played this and the Harley Benton RB612 CS side by side. (I didn't compensate for the smaller body at first and was strumming much closer to the neck on the H.B. causing it to sound a little bassier). Recording with each guitar was great, and while I like some things on the H.B. a little better... I kept the Eastwood Classic 12. A little nicer overall guitar in fit & finish with slightly better sound. I'm now a happy 12 Stringer! Thanks for your videos. They were a help when I was considering the two.

it's ok, but 700 bucks for a "budget" guitar? hmmm, not do sure about that, especially as it's up against the lovely Gear4Music 12-string Tele, coming in at 150 bucks(ish). After an afternoon of fret-dressing, a tweak on the 12 individual saddles&truss-rod,adjustments/finishing etc (800 grit SiC to the frets)..yummy, smooth as butter, and EVERY pair of notes in tune, all the way up to to fret 22.
    You just MUST try it...
Please do & post it'd make a great show

Hey man. It's funny. Everybody has a different idea of budget. One guy thought budget meant under $1500. Honestly, I think my definition of budget would be under $500. And I'm with you on the buying a nice piece of wood and upgrading. I've become a huge fan of the Epiphone inspired by Gison series. You can buy a guitar for $350 spend another $250 and you something identical to a $3k Gibson. Check out my video on the $69 Aamzon guitar. It played fine. Much better than the first 3 guitars I had. Thanks for checking out the video. I appreciate your time. Take care. Mark

Rick and I both live in metro ATL and a riend of his who works on my guitars first told me about him back I'm 2016. I reached out to him and he helped me get my channel going. I talk about it in that video and thats part of the description. If you're not a fan of Rick all I can say is that my interactions with him have all been positive. The guy interviews Sting and still takes the time to reach out to me...and apologize for not getting back to me sooner. I recently agreed to purchase Eastwood's last Left Hand Classic 12. (Last one for the time being, anyway). As fate, and perhaps irony would have it, it's coming to me, (In PA), from Liverpool England. With stops in Lancaster, to Derby, thus far. While this won't be Eastwood's advertised, "fast free delivery". I suppose I will have a story to tell. "This guitar came to me from Liverpool, England the, home of the Beatles". I'll have to quick, learn some of Harrison's 12 string licks, or keep my yap shut as to its origin.

Love Eastwood. Bought a Rockerbox DLX LTD a couple years ago. Perfect out of the hardshell case.
After playing it 2 years, it is my go to to this day for overall best versatility, tone range, high output and play ability. It has same scale as Gibson s I have played forever. All my muscle memory fits perfectly.
But stock setups on most semi-hollows usually have some things missing that I like. If there is more than one pickup with individual volume controls, I FIX that with a Gretsch-style master volume with treble bleed on the lower horn. Have done it so far on the 3 PUP Rockerbox (3 volume, one tone, a pain in the butt to manage balance reliably and quickly and a D'Angelico DC Premeir 12 string. with dual Seymour-Duncans that also got new CTS pots and Orange Drop caps.) I also replace ALL jacks on EVERYTHING with TruTone jacks, most reliable made. I have no fear of mods and to a real player they add value to a transaction if done correctly. Otherwise you are buying the instrument just as a cool place to store some cash. Great if that is your goal. I want them to PLAY the best possible for ME.

Hey Ken. Thanks so much. Believe it or not, the most accurate transcription I've seen of it is Songster which is notoriously wrong most of the time. I broke it down into five segments. In the two passages where he chucks several notes I added scale notes. My first take broke down 5 notes in, take 2 was solid but I didnt move up to the 12 feet at the right time, the 3rd time worked out good enough. Lol. Thanks so much for checking it out. I appreciate your time and comment. Enjoy the rest of your weekend. Mark

Hey OJB. Thanks so much for checking out the video. I can only weigh in based on the firefly 335 copy, which I own. I think it'd one of many, many examples of just how good automation and quality control have gotten in China. The only difference between a high and low end guitar these days is the materials (perhaps a bit of an overstatement but honestly all of the inexpensive guitars I own, the Harley Bentons, OLP, Epi 339 all stay in tune ans play well. The pickups on the Eastwood really do a nice job capturing the jangle. I know that wasn't a direct answer but that's the best I can do. Have a great day and take care. Mark

Hey brother. Sorry for the ridiculously belated reply. I don't have sponsorships or endorsement deals with anybody. Vangoa guitars gives me a guitar to give away each month and occasionally when I review a guitar I will be allowed to keep it for a while but I've turned down all offers as I feel like as soon as money is involved, biases creep in regardless of what true intentions may be. The Danelectro is the most popular guitar in this price range and I think this guitar blows the Dano away. I've also tried the Gretsch which has a similar sound but plays a lot stiffer. The Ibanez and Yamahas don't have the tonal capabilities (in my opinion). If you're looking for a real bargain, check out the Harley Benton RB-612. Amazing for the price. It's hard to beat the Eastwood though when it comes to sound and quality vs price. I'm sure you're probably thinking "what use is this info to me now" but I wanted to follow up anyway. Have a great weekend and take care. Mark

The best 12-string electric guitar for any money is a mid-'60's Rick with low output "toaster" pickups. Yeah, the neck is stupidly too narrow at the nut, but nothing, nothing, nothing sounds or looks like it. Worth every damn' penny. String it with flats and in the jingle-jangle morning you'll never be sorry.

So, I’m looking at the actual “Gretsch” 12 string. It has a slightly narrower neck at the nut and sports gold hardware and “Black top ‘Filter Tron” pickups (not sure of the specs). All other materials and specs seem the same. It’s only $200 more than this copy. I know 200 bucks is a lot if you don’t have it, but it seems like a “copy” should come in at a substantially lower price. It would be very interesting to see a comparison video between the two.

I bought one of these at a pawnshop for $350.00 Cnd. That was maybe 10 years ago. It stays in tune so well. I can pick it up after not playing for a week and it's close, and it stays there. I can play it like an electric 6 string, bend the shit out of it etc. it stays in tune and sounds great. The pups sound fine enough to get the sounds you may want but the pots are all wobbly and feel cheap. The two pots down buy the bridge are volume for each pup, the toggle switch obvious ... so what is the other pot below the pick guard for? The electronics are a bit cheap I think. I just play at home for my own entertainment. I love it anyways

Wow! I've been looking at a lot of 12 strings lately, both electric and acoustic, and I have to say, for this price range for electric, the Classic 12 sounds the best.
Most recently, I've been focused on the Danelectro 12, and for the money and playability it sounds pretty darn good. I am a bit hesitant because the bridge setting sounds pretty bright on most of the demos I've listened to.
This one sounds as close to a Ric from all the comparison demos I've listened to, and your playing and choice of songs checks ALL of my boxes.
The body looks pretty large, I'm a smaller gentleman around 5'7", would that be a problem? also how is the weight?(8lbs listed on their site), I would be sitting down.
One more question, how is the action? low enough for these old fingers?
I love your comments, and how you've donated income from the channel to good causes.

Prior to it I had a used danelectro that was like 300 bucks and it was cool but I sold it cause I thought I didn't need a 12 string electric. Then I saw the eds1275 on ebay and thought it was the perfect opportunity, since I had just sold a cs strat. Its from '94 which was a great era for gibsons and sounds awesome. I actually prefer the 6 string neck pickup to my Les Paul... Its not very heavy and I'll be using it for cover band live stuff (stairway and hotel california) and on my own music (im a music student). And if I get bored of it, I might be able to sell it for more than I bought it for... I really dont mind the headstock repair, its even barely visible. Thanks for the inspiration! LOL. I've been trying to acquire a reasonably priced double neck (really just for the fact that I think they will look really cool in videos). They discontinued the Epiphone 1275 replica, or at least none of the major online retailers have it anymore. The Harley Benton is out of stock for the next 4 months and I don't really want to take the risk of buying a random one off knock off from reverb. Let me know what you end up deciding to get. Hey Jeff. I sent you an email yesterday. Thanks again for the support. I really appreciate your time and comments. I own a Takamine GJ-72 and I love it. It's not the easiest guitar to play (it's a jumbo and I'm not a big guy) but the sound and looks are unparalleled at the price point. I also had a Mitchell. I would say the Mitchell was the easiest 12 string to play of any acoustic 12 I've ever had. The string sets are cut really close together and I prefer that being somewhat of an experienced 12 string player. It's funny, when you mentioned Art and Luthrie I was thinking of Huss and Dalton. LOL. I was going to say, I'd have to take a second mortgage out to buy one of those! Never played an A and L. How about you? Shoot me an email when you have time. Have a great day and take care. Mark
