For All Those Interested In This Radio for terminal and access point mode These modes do not work like a hot spot. They only work with call sign routing which means you can't just connect to a repeater or a reflector and have a general QSO. So there are two reviews on this radio on UA-cam and neither make this clear. The advertising literature also does not make this clear. Buyer beware. Also, if this information has changed please reply so I know so I can make it work as I had intended it to and that is like a hotspot. But, as of the information I have this morning, this only works with callsign routing, which sucks. If you already have the ID-880h, there is no strong reason to "upgrade" to the 4100 (unless you really need the DR mode) the Access Point and Terminal modes are useless in the US. It feels like Icom just stole 460 bucks from me. I'm probably done with ICOM after they pulled this crap.

I just bought one second hand as my first icom radio. I'm glad to know when I do upgrade to a 5100 or a 7100, I won't have to learn a whole other menu system to operate them. 73 KQ4UHS

In my RTS software to program the 880H, you can set a search range for AM aircraft from 118.0 to 136.995 MHz AM. And when you upload the data to the radio using the cable (I have the orange cable) and you go to search the airband range, it will search what you programmed, in VFO mode.

The 4100A is a great radio but asside from a couple of features I don't see the need to update if you have the 880H. Many (not all) do not use many of the features offered in the 4100A or the 880H as that goes. If only Icom offered crossband/lockband and dual receive in the 4100...

    Hello ,
how do you use this rig on the Amateur Satellites, where the Uplink is a 70cm Freq, and the Downlink is a VHF freq? I wan tto be able to use both frequencies in the same memory channel,
where the RX is a VHF freq, and the TX is a 70CM freq,
can this be done? and if so, how? THANKS

I'm disappointed. I just got one today. All the ads show the vfw mode LARGE numbers, I use mine 99% in memory channel name mode. I can't see anything without glasses. My 880h it replaced was so much bigger. even when you switch to number priority with name below the number is bigger than the memory channel. Man! I may have to send it back.

for the 4100 and same goes for the 51 you need good eyes to see the small lettering of the (sub)menus (i have the 51 +2 and that is difficult to read

26BT7000 I cannot imagine trying to manipulate this radio while mobile. There are times the 880H is difficult, let alone the smaller text in the 4100.

I should have gotten the 4100A GPS or the 5100 w/ GPS :) I still have my 880H. When will Icom have a DMR radio that looks like the 5100, with the remote detachable control head?

XRF reflectors use O for on and T for terminate instead of L and U. How does this simplify linking to them? Also Has icom fixed the dim unreadable microphone for us old farts.

When review memories in alphanumeric, does the memory number show on the lower right side of the display, or does that disappear like the ID-880?

It has been out for quiet a while but the 2820H is far better to me.It was replaced by the 2730.

Nice. I love my 880, but this has sold me on upgrading. Thanks all.

This might be a noob question but I can't find the answer online. Does the 4100A have a built-in SWR meter like the Yaesu 857D?

@Situational Ready Now that I have more experience, I realize that a lot can happen to an antenna system that can affect the SWR. So an swr meter IS important for a great many reasons.

ID-880 does not stand a chance. Compared to 51, none has the dual monitoring capability.

That automated voice has been on some of the older icom's and a lot of the old Kenwood's

Would a motorcycle headset hooked up to either one of those radios because it would be sweet to be able to talk on the ham radio hands-free well cruising down the interstate

Not worth the price for the so called Upgrade.I'll keep my 880H & 2820H for sure.
