- Greetings, dear friends, and welcome once again to my cherished farm nestled in the beautiful landscapes of Portugal!
Finally, the winter days granted my wife the chance to join me on the homestead. Together, we embraced the opportunity to appreciate the crisp short winter days, although our activities were limited.
On the farm, our main focus was harvesting some of the winter crops. For instance, we gathered cabbages intended for hearty bean soups and to complement traditional Portuguese cod fish dishes. There's a unique satisfaction in reaping what you sow, even if the occasional caterpillar feels like a small thief of your hard-earned food! :D
Shifting our attention to the Vegega raised garden bed I planted some time ago, my wife patiently harvested cress, cutting it carefully for soups and salads. Our harvest was modest, barely making a dent in the flourishing patch.
We also remembered to gather some parsley and coriander from the same raised bed.
Ah! And, as is customary, Foreman cat made his appearance to inspect her activities! Even if there's nothing particularly enticing for him, he maintains his vigilant stance, always guarding us! :D

Lastly, we spent some peaceful moments plucking clementines. While not yet at the peak of sweetness (another month of ripening would enhance their flavor), they're already delightful, and we picked a few to bring back to the city.
It's too early for the tangerines on the left tree, but they too will be harvested in the future.
Everything from the farm carries far more freshness and intensified flavors and aromas. The act of picking is not only refreshing for your belly but also for your mind.

The clementine's look great What a nice size tree. You will have to buy a good orchard ladder. You really will need one for both picking and pruning so you are not risking a fall.
Winter pruning season is well underway for the dormant trees.
It was great to see your partner at the farm. Once she enjoys the fruits of your labors I hope she joins you more frequently to take advantage of the farms bounty. Maybe you can give her the title "Chief Harvester" 😉
