If fuel tank is plastic, it probably will, because they are made of "breathing" type of plastic. That's why when you buy stickers set on your bike the ones which go on the gas tank are perforated.
Nice job! A couple of tips, with plastics and polymers, you don't want to go aver around 45 psi in the sandblaster. It will tend to rough the surface up too much. Also, you need to be really careful with using H series with a spray gun with a plastic cup. The hardener actually melts the plastic, which then ends up in your coating. Really like your channel.
Okay when you're spraying with that gun do not let the trigger off all the way let off so no paint comes out but keep the air going. What this does it does not lay the spit of paint down it leaves a better smoother finish
There are plenty of options for paints that flex nowadays. Krylon makes a “fusion” line of spray paints that are meant for plastic. There is also r/c car paint for polycarbonate bodies (plastic shells) that are also designed to flex. Both these options come in many many colors.
Just so you know, even low cfm soda blasting is fantastic for restoring plastic and prepping for coatings! Thank you for the informative video! Wasn't sure it would work 😅
It was originally designed for weapons so I don’t think a bike should be a problem. It’s widely used on polymer framed pistols. It also helps protect steel parts from corrosion.
I used proline pro series dye on my plastic rear guards and it worked amazing. But the gas tank on my 22 year old honda was an absolute disaster. I cleaned it VERY thoroughly, inside and out. I then started the process, of which took several days, taking it out and rinsing it off every day, even with scalding hot water and dawn dish soap and scotch briting didn't help. I added more dye each day, and I already started off using more than needed. I watched as it turned from oil and dirt stained white to light purple. Then darker purple, burnt bronze with some brown areas. Then parts of the tank started turning black, but the top (hidden) is copper colored. The front of the tank has a darker burnt bronze look, but mostly black in the visible parts. That's fine. Except now the dye is literally soaking into the graphics and turning the white pinstripes a brownish yellow.
Best way to blacken plastic is use Rit or a special die for plastics which you add to boiling water and allow the part to soak in.....You also will want a bucket of ice cold water to quench the plastic in to seal the die.
Many of the plastic parts on a bike are made of abs that melts with acetone and change his proprieties with temperature higher than 140 Celsius. In your case that parts are made of nylon so you don't have any of this problems. So be careful.
Armex baking soda is the best for plastic blasting. Still roughs the surface but it dissolves when you rinse them or clean them. I soda blast all my plastics
Bonjour Cameron ! Excellent vidéo ! La cuisine au plastique !!! Incroyable, est en +ça marche, est c'est très beau ! Excellent day for you, thank for vidéo ! 🤙👍👌👏😁😊😉💨💨💨
I seen on the cerakote training video they said not to use the plastic container on the spray gun use a metal one . Did you notice anything with the plastic one ? I bought the same cerakote and spray gun just worried about using the plastic container
fiber reinforced plastics no problem as well as polypropylene(what the parts in the vid were made of) and maby ABS and HDPE but anything else I would not try
Hey Cameron, odd question but could you make a video about the spaying setup? i've been looking into it but it kind of feels overwhelming with the compressors, i tried looking up some video's but they're often just going for really high end stuff and i was hoping you'd have ideas for a bit more.... normal people?
never use acetone after you've cleaned your bike. The towel that you use will leave dirt and cotton on residue on the final surface. this will ruin the bounding with the cerakoat.
You should test a fuel tank and see if it would just peel off like paint.
Great idea!
RacingfortheSon yea I'm curious to see if a gas tank with cerakote will hold up and not peel or bubble with gas and stuff like that
Agreeeeed
yes

Would e-series be better for polymer or just use a metal cup sprayer with h-series?
@@kfranklin308 E has to cook at 300 for an hour, so polymers are not an option.

Rit dye is the best thing iv found for plastics
Doesn’t really work if they start at black lol
It was originally designed for weapons so I don’t think a bike should be a problem. It’s widely used on polymer framed pistols. It also helps protect steel parts from corrosion.
One thing you can do is get some black Rit dye. Boil them in a pot till they turn the desired black.

Hey good job cam can’t wait to see the cr250 in action I ride a cr my self so this is great
Wonder if this would work on plastic fuel tanks since they’re renowned for paints and stickers bubbling and cracking
I think you should try a gas tank. My rm250 is yellow and I want a black tank but cant afford a Clarke. I wonder if that would work

6 years later.. How did it go with the ceracote? Did they end up white or how did it go?
I have some mx parts i'm thinking to ceracote.. 😀
Are you going to be keeping the 125 once the 250 is done?
Yep

Good stuff Cameron! Cheers, Doug
Great video as always✌️👍

hows it holding up 2023?
Awesome video man
fiber reinforced plastics no problem as well as polypropylene(what the parts in the vid were made of) and maby ABS and HDPE but anything else I would not try
You can dye plastics. If you going black it's much easier.
Cameron, what psi are you spraying at? You are giving me some good ideas for my CR500. Keep up the good work!!
Thanks! I'm at 25 PSI

Hey cam, has the cheap spray gun held up ok? Looks like it sprays pretty decent for ya
Great video again😃
Cool thanks!
That's cool, wonder what your gonna cerakote next?
what media do you use for bead blasting
I spray painted mine haha, not sure if it's going to hold up good..... Probably not 😞
nice! I can see you improved at doing whips!
Dude, What about "C" series (air dry) Cerakote ? (G'Day again from Melbourne Australia)
never use acetone after you've cleaned your bike. The towel that you use will leave dirt and cotton on residue on the final surface. this will ruin the bounding with the cerakoat.
Do more ride videos! You ride well and they are awesome
Bro whats up with some more cr250 build videos that would b dope 🏁😊👍
So Cerakote recommends what to do to coat plastic and your questions Is it possible to Cerakote plastic?
Anodize something on your CR250 build
your cr250
I just started wondering this!! My fuel tank is polyethylene. Id like to cerakote it satin black
What’s up with th cr250 build
Why you not change your velg
Fuel tank would look sick
One crash.....Ceracoat gone..... 😂
You could've died those parts and would've been easier and last forever. Cause it's not a coating, it's actually the plastic that turns black
Does cerakote make your oven smell ?
Don’t cure chemicals in an oven you cook with.
cmon finish that cr 250.... you will doing this 1 year.....
Might be waiting on parts etc
Rider Crew Quality > Speed/Quantity
Do anodizing next
Yes you can
Is it possible to polish ceracoat
Can we get an update on how this held up over the years?
ua-cam.com/video/K8l8sJTVdGw/v-deo.html

What about plastic dye... that would have no chance of coming off. Great vid as always!
You should soda blast the plastic man
Nice
