The coil is called an auto-transformer. It has 3 terminals, +, - and high voltage output. On a negative ground system, ignition + terminal to output terminal has the lowest resistance. Terminal - to output terminal has the highest resistance. A simple ohmmeter can be used to determine which terminal is + and - .
@@831BeachBumOK, After entering the instructions, I realized Model As have positive ground and I gave the wrong instructions.. Here's the correct instructions: "+" terminal to output terminal has the highest resistance. "+" terminal to "-" terminal has the lowest resistance. A simple ohmmeter can be used to determine which terminal is + and - .
It now makes sense to me why there is more than one wiring harness as you mentioned they can have different bodies. I will admit that's not something I had thought about. The original wires were likely made from vulcanised rubber which can break down over time but some may have been replaced before. I like that coil tool, you can't be in any doubt using that. She is coming along well and I look forward to the next step. Thanks Steve.👍👍
Greatest respect for your videos, super informative. Every time I end up hoping they were longer! Advice from an old electrician, use a steel fish-tape to help feed those tough reaches of the electrical harness. Would love to see you a 60’s Austin Healey.🏎🛸
There is a chap with a Model A UA-cam Channel called Paul Shinn. He is a great bloke and can help with all sorts of Model A stuff and tips. I'm sure if you need any help he would be very helpful. Take Care
Would you consider a video outlining timing the engine? It's unbelievable what a difference it makes when it's really dialed in - fun to drive when it's right. They're very peppy little cars.
I’m amazed you can still get parts for these cars. I find it hard to get parts for my late 90s Honda Blackbird and the ones that are available are getting expensive.
the Model A is the perfect first time collectors car, fun to drive, parts available, not too expensive. Just great cars.
The parts for these cars are so cheap it is silly.
@@ThisWeekWithCars BUT a lot of bad quality repops….you have to really pay attention to what you’re getting to avoid getting burned.
Yes, I'd like to see more of this project.

Stock Model A's have a positive ground system.

looking forward to another Ford Model A video 👍
With all the more modern (comparatively) cars you work on, it's amazing to see how rudimentary, but functional these old cars really are!
great to see the availability of anything you need regarding replacement parts
Love how this is progressing.
NIce job! I get most of my Model A parts from Arizona Model A in Chandler, AZ. Great people to work with and VERY knowledgable.
cool series, for today's and tomorrow's
Good video and looking forward to the next !
Keep going on the Model A. Enjoying the work.
I would definitely love to see more content on this car. Love model As in their simplicity
Thank you, keep them coming!
Good progress, looking forward to the next installment.
More Model A repairs please

WOW , Cars were so basic back in the day !! Great Video Steve !
Let's keep going on this one.
Thanks!
Many Thanks!
First year Model A too! They’re positive ground.
Yes for sure
It must be nice to be able to order parts for such an old car!
great stuff thanks

Check out Paul Shinn's channel - he did a great video on timing (and LOTS of other procedures)
Nice Video!....Thanks
I'm really surprised about how the car is able to run w/o the proper coil polarity; and love the polarity tester.
You would be surprised how many cars out there are running with it backwards.
I’m amazed you can still get parts for these cars. I find it hard to get parts for my late 90s Honda Blackbird and the ones that are available are getting expensive.
More, please. Thanks
Coils is a good subject . Plenty of wrong coils fitted and right coils fitted wrong
I may have to do a video just about coils.
Love to see this one progressing, have you gotten any farther with the 1934 Chevrolet?

The episodes on this car seem to be coming in a strange order; it's been on the road in one.
You are watching them out of order check this playlist to watch them in order: ua-cam.com/play/PLRMQ-ShmnWObh4eL413c2l8W9M02SJne0.html
@@ThisWeekWithCars Thanks. The Algorithm's been playing games. :-)*
Why not paint the dash while everything is apart.
This is not a restoration, not yet...
First! Cheers from Linz, Austria! 😀
You can test coil polarity with a pencil. GOOGLE it.
I found this article about using a pencil from Moss Motoring for others interested in reading it: mossmotoring.com/coil-polarity/
Eah?
Amazing you can just order up brand new parts for a 95 yr old car.
