- Finally time for a new bike. I went for the same same but different. It's time to say goodbye to my old Zerode Katipo and hello to my new one! I am super excited to get this new build out and get it dirty!

Thanks mate! If you go onto their website they have a program called Zerode World where you might be able to sort out a little ride on one. Taking the weight of the cassette and derailleur off the wheel and putting it under your feet is a game changer. Not to mention reduced maintenance and instantaneous shifting. Worth looking into for sure!

Been riding my Katipo for a couple months now. I'll never go back to a chain and derailleur. Gorgeous bike. But The burgundy is prettier. ;)

I think the grip shift would be the hardest part to get used to. I wonder if they'll create any other options to run a regular grip. nice bike

That’s a valid thought about the shifter. That’s actually one of my favorite things about the system because I can change multiple gears at a time either direction at the flick of your wrist. And because you get a perfect shift, your alway in gear, even if you do manage to accidentally shift (which I can’t remember the last time that happened to me). The thing that you do get better at over time is shifting while pedaling. Because you can’t shift under load you need to back off the power and shift at the same time. As you get better at this you can actually shift at the top of your stroke without hearing your freehub spin at all. The gains to rear wheel traction and time (and money) saved on maintenance make it worth adapting and learning the different way of shifting. @@NewZealandMountainBiking They have the "pinion smart shift" now, normal c1.12 with sensors and electronics in there so you can shift with a wireless trigger shifter that lets you shift under load even (it knows when your crank arms are vertical and under no pressure)
@@eaze7324 Hmm... my first thought was it would be smart shift but is that because this bike is the c1.9 not c1.12? Or is Smart shift not available yet for any build?I heard that it would be available in 2024

Thanks! Yes they all come standard with the grip shift. There is a set up that cinque do with paddle shifters for the Pinion gearbox. But in my opinion the grip is all good. I never accidentally shift and can always grab enough gears when I need them.

And there aren't many drive trains with a 5 year warranty like a pinion does if any.
Yeah they do look great, but I can't justify spending that (yet, hah). I ended up going with a 2022 Carbon Giant Reign Adv Pro 2 with Zeb Fork for a third of the price of a Zerode. Hard to compete with those prices I guess.

That’s a stock colour at the moment. This bike is soo good, 9 months down the track with a few thousand km on it and its feeling so good. I just put some XC tires on it for fun and it's so fast!
I couldn't afford the old Katipo, and still can't afford the new one. Or a used one 😔
Keep your eye out. Bikes are a pretty expensive piece of kit. The zerodes age really really well too so they don’t often come up for cheap

No they are a closed loop
