You have to consider who is the audience for a video like this. It is mainly created to show white Western liberal women so they can pat themselves on the back and pretend like they're actually doing something to help the poor Africans without having to lift a finger and actually do anything. "Just give us money and vote for left-wing politicians and you can save the world, too!" That's the purpose of creating these videos. Notice they are made by EU/UN and similar organizations. The reason they keep mentioning science is because Western liberals have abandoned God and religion and they have replaced them with an infallible belief in "Science". Despite the fact that science has been wrong countless times and continues to get things wrong. It is their new religion. So when you hear a Western leftist talking about "Science", just replace it with "The God of Leftism". They will believe anything that someone tells them is "science".
Those ways are called permaculture. Using silvopasture with diverse plantings of trees and abhorring plowing make some of the biggest improvements, faster. Hopefully they are treating the dried corn with lime, to release the nutrients and make them bioavailable.

The farmers went by the traditional slash and burn cos that''s how it was done, and still being done Thankfully we know better now. This worldwide movement to improve the lands is succeeding everywhere it touches. I've lived long enough to have seen a great deal of damage done and it's encouraging to see this story unfold.

They spent 50 years researching what was already known. Basically waste of funds and energy. You removed the trees that protected the soil and held water on the land. What research were they actually doing for that 50 years? When are they going to start working on reclaiming the deserts cos that knowledge is already on road? And this corn for staple foods also needs to be addressed. There's a lot more nutritious foods that need to be at the forefront. What a joke
I don't think China is the leader in good forestry practices, possibly clear-cut methods though. The Three Gorges Dam extinguished several million hectares of forest alone.

These places need to study some Chinese methods on how they have increase forest and agriculture in that country.
