    Hey Conor so I've recently been struggling with diving to my left (Weak side). I've been good at it in the past, but I haven't played any real games in a while. I go to the field and practice about once or twice a week and I am doing many camps and other goalkeeper training activities this summer and was wondering if you had any tips to develop my weak side when I'm training?

    • @ConorOKeefe
      @ConorOKeefe  5 років тому +3

      Hi Ansley, I'd say just focus on practising a lot on your weak side, that's how it'll improve. See if you can get in lots of reps during your training/camps, and hopefully that'll help to improve it quicker!

      My club is Manchester United, so that would be the dream. For your weak side, you just need to constantly dive on that side and practice, that's the only way to make it stronger

    Great vid as always keep it up 👏😁

    • @ConorOKeefe
      @ConorOKeefe  5 років тому +3

      Of course you can, I use that stretching routine as my warm up! Ease yourself into it, don't stretch to a ridiculous point straight away, but if you go to the point of tension and hold it there, then that's what works best. Thank you, glad you enjoyed it!

    • @ConorOKeefe

    I have a question - Why do you let them wear gloves and use their hands to get up? I train my keepers in my hometown and I am just curious because I always love learning about new techniques and sessions (hence why I subscribed haha). I tell them if they can catch a ball cleanly without gloves then with gloves will help and if you can quickly get up without using your hands then you're always ready for the shot.

    • @justinthorn1560
      @justinthorn1560 4 роки тому

      Also, I noticed when they got tired they started to really use their hands on their knees or on the ground to get up. I get it is a fitness drill which is an outstanding drill which I will use tonight with my boys, but I feel like their legs could be doing more to get up. Kick, twist, step is my philosophy lol

    • @ConorOKeefe
      @ConorOKeefe  4 роки тому +2

      Hi Justin, I'm the keeper in this video, not the coach, so I can only speak from the players perspective, but I hope it can help.
      Regarding no gloves, it's an interesting thought, and maybe something you can introduce into the occasional session every so often, but I believe the majority of work/training should be done with gloves. The catching technique is slightly different with gloves than without, and as a keeper, I believe it is very important to train how you play, meaning the keepers should be training with gloves much more than without.
      Also, with the standing up movement, every keeper will do it slightly differently, as you can see in this video. There is no one perfect way. A lot of pros will use their hands to get up, and some won't. The key is to get up as quickly as possible to allow time to set for the next shot. If that means using the hands, then that's ok, but the focus should be on how quickly and effectively the keepers can get up, rather than only allowing one technique.

    On the last drill why do you use your bottom hand? I would think that the top hand is easier and maybe better.

    • @ConorOKeefe
      @ConorOKeefe  5 років тому +1

      It's a common argument amongst goalkeepers, whether to use top or bottom hand. First of all, in my opinion, as long as it stays out the goal then it's the correct choice! But the way i look at it, top hand helps with height and bottom hand helps with length. If i feel that I need to be at full reach to make the save because the ball is far away from me laterally, I'll go with my bottom hand, as i know i can still get the height if needed due to athleticism/flexibility. But if it's closer to me in the goal, but still high, I'll go with my top hand, because that's closer to the ball, and quicker to the point of contact, and I don't have to worry about stretching for lateral distance, only height.
      I hope that makes sense, I might make a video about it soon, but in general, as long as it keeps the ball out of the goal it is the right decision!
