Two months and five attempts, finally I got one. Great bag good for Canadian late fall early winter $69 US on Ebay plus shipping still saved. I'm 5' 10" 170 good size
This bag is incredibly heavy not only that but it is incredibly bulky. Put that into Context it takes up half of my 65l rucksack. Having said that when I take this out wild camping I can feel safe in the knowledge that I will not freeze to death as this bag is seriously warm
+Jason Chasteen i'm probably the only one that loathes anything Snugpak. had their sleeper lite bag, which effectively became a blanket the 1st night out. the zipper snagged and came uncoiled beyond repair - the zipper used coiled plastic instead of normal teeth. also took their dry bag out river rafting and the inside was damp afterwards. and just recently had to sew one of their stuff sacks back together.
I don't have this particular bag but I do have a Snugpak sleeper xtreme. I bought it back in 2008 as a temporary option whilst I had a good look around for 'better' bags but I've ended up using it all the time as I have never been disappointed (or cold) with it. It looks very similar to your bag, though a few grams lighter. They are heavy & bulky which might be an issue for some but the comfort, warmth & quality/price they offer is hard to beat. The shoulder & zip baffles are very efficient too.
I have several SnugPak bags, and I like them. This bags weight doesn't bother me, it's intended for your base-camp, and that usually means it's close to my truck, or in my Pulk-Sled. Just a reminder, that most SnugPak bags can be fitted with a SnugPak Extension Panel, this zips-in and allows more room for bigger folks.
nice bag, GREAT video as always. I'm a huge fan of snugpak after purchasing the stratosphere bivy tent. I bought it on the fly for an FTX last month, Temps got down to about 10. all I had was a fleece sleeping bag, clothes wise all I wore to bed was thermals and a beenie. Stayed plenty warm.
I'm not claustrophobic but I don't like mummy bags because I like to be able to spread my legs apart if I get too warm/hot. I wish they made this same temp rating in a rectangle bag for four season use. Thanks for the look at this bag. I bought the Scorpion 2 largely based on your review of the Scorpion and other Snugpak fly first tents!
That is a great value, and really shows you the diminishing returns for lightweight gear. My 5 degree down quilt is 2.8 times lighter than this, but costs 6.5 times as much. Of course, I still love my quilt, and I won't be backpacking with a 5.7 pound sleeping bag any time soon!
I often hear complaints that Snugpak sleeping bags don't have a lot of loft and they look pretty flat indeed. However I have used the Snugpak Merlin 3, Hawk 9 and Jungle Bag for years and I find the temperature rating accurate and they are among the lightest, smallest packing synthetic sleeping bags at a very reasonable price. I'm 6'2" / 170 pounds and I feel that I'm at the upper end. You shouldn't be much taller and not that much stouter or you will feel too constricted.
I hope you're happy cause you just ruined a rowing workout for a 69 year oldie. To avoid a 'snooze you lost it' scenario I paused at 3:45, went to Amazon Canada and ordered the last one. And now the cat is sitting on the rowing machine cause she wants food. But my new Snug as a bug 'Pappas gotta brand new bag' is soon to be in the mail. I promised myself I was only gonna look today. That's never ever worked so no use messing up a perfect streak.
another option is the softie elite series, I have wide shoulders and with the expander panel I can finally more around in the bag! thanks for the review
My only problem with this sleeping bag is that it literally had to go vertical inside my ruck as it was taking up a ton of room! I think I’m gonna roll it up inside my bivvy so it can be attached to the outside of my ruck. and tbh I think it only cost me £40-45 so even if I did want something lighter or less bulky then it’s not a big loss :) Nice video all the same!
Nice Video! The Place inside this Sleeping Bad is very good after long and strong days and you keep some stuff inside and safe for freezing. Im think about buying a sleeping bag for cold weather and not sure Snugpak or Carinthia but more and more i think i pay to much for the name Carinthia. Whats your opinion? Regards from Germany, Kalli
In my opinion snugpak is great and you can’t fault it especially for the price but if your looking for something special and money is no object then carinthia is the way to go.
Great as always Luke! Don't you folks ever get snow that actually stays??? If you need some we have lots here in Yellowknife if you want some :).... And the cold weather to boot... Why does Snugpak make things that are so small?? This sleeping bag and the Ionosphere and I'm sure a few more as well I just think they should have a big and tall section.. Take care man....
currently use snugpak elite 4 comfort rating -10c / 14F low rating -15c /5F bag has baffle extension to increase size bags zips are ok but don't be too rough with them in my opinion the temp ratings are optimistic & potentially misleading best advice would be treat comfort rating as the low rating. -10c /14F is a potentially dangerous temperature to be sleeping in. this is not a criticism of the snugpak product but it's a industry wide problem with temp ratings👍
+Eric Rosbottom i can only give information on equipment etc that I have personal knowledge of. which is usually the cheapest end of the market equipment. for the temperature you have mentioned. ..... it would mean expensive sleeping bags . if I was researching for your temperature range I would watch as many youtube videos on particular bags as I could find.
Thanks for the response, But actually it was a rhetorical comment hahaha... I live in Yellowknife Canada and would have to get an Extreme Arctic bag for sure.... Right now I have the MSS and use a wool blanket Bivy in conjunction with it... I only go out with that when the temps are around -20's I wouldn't dare go out overnight when it gets colder cheers man enjoy your day!
+Eric Rosbottom sorry sir 😊 my mistake it's just that I have concerns regarding trusting your life to claimed bag rating because I know how dangerous the low temperatures can be. 32c /35c BODY TEMPERATURE is mild hypothermia BODY TEMPERATURE of below 28c results is severe hypothermia symptoms include drowsiness. you might fall asleep in your inadequate bag & not wake up.
+Eric Rosbottom Yellow Knife Canada a good frontiers man such as yourself wouldn't have any need for a sleeping bag, he would just wrestle the nearest bear and use the fur for a bed. happy trails mate
Great review Luke I have the yellow one £49s. It was my introduction to the world of Snugpack I've got a few of there sleeping bags. Luke have you tried to put that in your backpack yet?
I really enjoy your videos and the input on product you give. With that being said, would this fit inside my S.O.L Escape Bivvy bag? The measurements are 84in by 31in.
can you recommend a compact 20 degree sleeping bag. I want to use it for backpacking so I want it to be light, but not very pricey. Thanks! great video
hey luke. i love your reviews. but i thought i would look at your sleeping bag reviews and its a nightmare! have you ever thought of doing playlusts of sleeping bags, back packs, tents.......... you get my point. is it because you have done so many it would take you too long? cheers.
[UPDATE] So, I have a 65L backpack. This sleeping bag is pretty big. It doesn't fit in the sleeping bag compartment. How do you carry this on your back securely? Or, what would be a good bag to carry this sleeping bag?
hey Luke. question. you wouldn't be willing to sell your camelbak trizip would you. I've looked everywhere and can't find one. Strength and Honored Luke. p.s. hope you still do the bug out bag
And they have. I own the snugpak softie elite 5, roughly the same weight. I'm a big guy, and in the elite 5 i can move arround comfortably, i hate feeling tight on a sleeping bag. Plus it has a EPS with stands for Expendable panel system, wich allows you to decide if you want more or less room.
Almost every SnugPak bag can be modified with a SnugPak extension baffle, they are a long, narrow triangular baffles that zip-in. These baffles help bigger folks fit.
Kelty and Alps Mountaineering both make very affordable and decent quality sleeping bags...especially on sale...with no reference to survival or military crap...just good old fashioned camping...where you enjoy the outdoors rather than survive them.
+Patrick Caple (No Trail Required) Absolutely. I've gotten a couple good Kelty bags on closeout (I need a large bag for my wide shoulders) in the last couple of years. My wife thinks I'm nuts having five sleeping bags...six backpacks....a dozen empty Gatorade (water) bottles.... I'm so glad I don't have a gear hoarding issue like Luke does?
thanks for putting the temp in °c but you forgot to add the sizes in cm... im sure i saw another of your videos where you had the weight in lbs and kg... 2 out of 3 is pretty good, but you can do better :p
$89... budget minded... yeah, not really. Compared to others, yes, it's a very inexpensive option. The problem is even at that price it's not a budget friendly item for the average working man.
I got mine in the mail 30 minutes ago and tried it out, I'm 5'8 and stocky (over 200lbs) and I fit in this perfectly and comfortably

I have definitely been well pleased with every piece of gear I've gotten from SnugPak
I own multiple Snugpak items all are excellent quality and excellent price not the lightest around but the best value for sure!
stratosphere is a very nice weight for the snugpack brand though!

Good to know as it was a concern...hasnt arrived yet...tight sleeping bags kill me

Unbelievable value for money, I love it!
Great review Luke! I got this bag 4 months ago for 58$ here in Croatia!
+Thomas Shaddox The "basecamp" in the name pretty much tells you this is not a backpacking bag.
I really enjoy your video's Luke. Thanks for sharing.
So this bag would be great for when I'm out on special ops to invade other camper's basecamps
+Patrick Caple (No Trail Required) Yes that is correct! - Luke
+Patrick Caple (No Trail Required) ... pick up some stuff for me. i'll monitor ebay.
+Patrick Caple (No Trail Required) Invade my basecamp and your snugpack will do double duty as a body bag.
+panzerabwerkanone Sounds like a proper response from a typical watcher of this channel...with all the military and ops type gear reviewed here
Ha! Not meant to offend Patrick but never tell the enemy your attack plans! You can never know what may be attached to that trip wire!
My friend thank you for the great help. Soon i will buy one...take care

I was confused by the concept when I read about it. Does it effect the temperature rating? Likeis there less insulation at the sides with it expanded?
just bought one :) thanks for this nice review.

I wonder how much colder a person can go with this bag is he has thermals and pants on, along with a winter jacket on.
Hi Luke
Can two of these bags be joined to make a bigger sleeping bag.
Great Channel with loads of good info.
William
Have one for me and wife for elk hunting she packs both in her pack and that’s all she can get it pack but their good bags
now that you gave it a favorable review (and rightly so) let's see how long the $89.00 price last.
Did you ever try to use the base camp sleeping mat inside....
Hey bro just wondering if you prefer this over the military sleep system?
Luke could u ps do the monodome weekender tent review
+Mr Spartarn I did a search for this tent and I couldn't find it. Who makes it? - Luke
British Company, who make gear for the really damp cold British Climate, cant go wrong with their gear
I really enjoy your videos and the input on product you give. With that being said, would this fit inside my S.O.L Escape Bivvy bag? The measurements are 84in by 31in.
Luke have you done a review on the extreme, an zero .
? ? . thanks for your time :-)
can you recommend a compact 20 degree sleeping bag. I want to use it for backpacking so I want it to be light, but not very pricey. Thanks! great video
hey, can you do a review on the recon gen2 sleeping bags?
cheers for the quality reviews.
Will the snugpak air pillow fit in the head area of this bag
Hey Luke how would you compare this to the eberlestock Reveille? Which one would you say it's best?
hey luke. i love your reviews. but i thought i would look at your sleeping bag reviews and its a nightmare! have you ever thought of doing playlusts of sleeping bags, back packs, tents..........
you get my point.
is it because you have done so many it would take you too long?
cheers.

+Sérgio Barbosa I have the elite 5 as will. It supposed to go down to -4 f. Very comfortable and roomy.
man, if it's a tight fit for you. there is no way I can get in it.
Almost every SnugPak bag can be modified with a SnugPak extension baffle, they are a long, narrow triangular baffles that zip-in. These baffles help bigger folks fit.
Eli the pit master It’s called Snug Pak for a reason 😂
Should I store my sleeping bag by hanging it? Or in its stuff sack?
why do you don't use amazon affiliate links?
As I noticed Snugpack's sleeping bags tend to be narrow in shoulder width. Not recommended for wider dudes.
If you are a 50 inch chest will this be too small you think?
$45 on Amazon!
Help any good backpack to help store this sleeping bag? My 68 osprey is too small for this :( looking for something in 100l range
l recomend Wisport Reindeer 75+10. I have the 55+10 and it has a lot of space.
Thank you
Last night i ordered a snugpak basecamp ops Nautilus for 29 bucks. Score
I just ordered a Navigator. What is your experience with the bag? Do you think the temperature rating is right? Thank you.
what is the jacket you are wearing?
+john lozano I knew someone would ask.....www.fjallraven.us/
Expensive but the best of the best....
I paid 72.00 for mine at optics planet same one
I find the MMSS is a little snug on me. 5'9" 250lb... Yes I should be 200... ;) Would this compare or be a tighter fit?
+Mostly humble 1 i believe the mmss is several inches wider than this

After seeing 2 of ur comments, seems u mite want to seek another channel with like minded individuals. FWIW
thanks for putting the temp in °c but you forgot to add the sizes in cm... im sure i saw another of your videos where you had the weight in lbs and kg... 2 out of 3 is pretty good, but you can do better :p
I'm a side sleeper, if I can't pull my knees up, forget it.
