What is BIG-IP?

In the early days of F5, BIG/IP was our original load balancer. Today, BIG-IP is a family of products covering software and hardware designed around application availability, access control, and security solutions.

Hey Liv! Great question...ADC is the more broad industry term for what F5 calls the "BIG-IP". So, BIG-IP is an Application Delivery Controller. Hope this helps!

What hypervisor are you referring? BIG-IP can be installed on many hypervisors. It can also be installed as hardware and used as a perimeter datacenter firewall/waf/ddos to protect hosts from user and outside networks. With BIG-IP you can NAT the internal network but that's just one, basic type of traffic management. A full-proxy can do much, much more like routing the source address to a specific spot or allowing SSL to a destination server.
