These is no such thing as best speaker to mix on. The best speaker is the one that you know and are familiar with

I calibrated my ns10 with sonarworks (using the agressive bass extension option) and I got an amazing result. Seriously, if you guys have the opportunity to test it, do so. I'm only using one pair of speakers now switching sonarworks on/off when needed.

Dear Henrique, thank you for your feedback on this video. I'm going to buy the CLA 10A and I had the same idea like you because sonaworks does a great job to compensate the acoustic treatment of the room. So I am very excited about the results I will get with these monitors in the near future. Best regards from Munich, Jerryl

"Disgustingly flat" is what I want!! haha. I'm gonna buy a pair of these, but will have another monitor pair also. Many years ago I mixed on NS10's not knowing they were legendary and got mixes that transferred without any problem. And I thought they sounded like SHIT!!! Now I own some Mackie monitors and everytime I go to the car to listen to my mix It's full of surprises. Hate that. So gonna pay out the ass for some old NS10's and a power amp. Thanks for sharing your experience with us.

Why would anyone mix on fatiguing, coloured, passive speakers that now demand vintage prices when you can get modern speakers that are flat, active and dont tear your ears out. Ive been on the KH 120s in 5.1 now for almost 10 years of daily 9-5 use. We have a crate of NS10s in storage that have been collecting dust for over 20 years.. Im mixing for surround for TV, I reference through a small Fostex in mono and through a TV I monitor the video on. No need for NS10s

I've owned and worked on NS10's for almost 35 years. I agree they are fatiguing. They are bass shy with a pronounced hump around 1-2 kHz, our most sensitive hearing range. Definitely NOT flat.

For me they were great on working out any flaws in the mid-upper bass and tightening up the bottom end. But I had to be careful to not destroy any warmth and fullness in the mix either. So I use them for a part of the pipeline but not exclusively. My goto have been Koss M-105's with matching sub strangely. And usually final stage I use a set of AMT 1's. If I can make my mix agree with those 3, then it will work pretty good on nearly anything.

Ns10 sounds horrible but if the mid range is sounding great on them, its gg

  • @TheJohnnyjean

Stop that myth that they are bad sounding speakers they actually sound great , that is if your music sounds great😊 they just have a limited range , I just got a pair, and was really expecting them to sound like shit after watching and reading too much crap on the internet but they actually sound good IMO !

Nice video ! Yeah, you want to rely on what you're hearing of course, but this involves not only some ugly flat speakers, but also the acoustic the mixing room ! And that's the problem, cause even treated the room will never be flat enough to translate things as they should translate ! So I finally went for those Genelec monitors (8330 APM + Sub 7350 APM + the GLM set ). These really changed the game ! My next move will probably be to get those aventone mixcubes to compare with !

what other cheap speakers can be used with the same idea of NS10 (sounding bad). I've heard of cheap walmart speakers being used as reference to improve translation across all speakers. any other makes and models with the NS10 idea ???

I think they sound amazing , as a guitar player ..... that 1.5k bump is what I always boost on my guitar so for vocals and guitars I think they sound incredible just like my senheiser 650's, maybe its just me ? but I love midrange I hate speakers and mixes that are smiley faced

      Thank you for your response!
      In regards to maintenance,
are you referring to the cones and tweeters?
I’ve heard/read that the tweeters on this particular monitor are hard to come by if one were to blow them.
